Book Selected Articles on the Monroe Doctrine Classic Reprint

Download or read book Selected Articles on the Monroe Doctrine Classic Reprint written by Edith May Phelps and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-10 with total page 376 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Selected Articles on the Monroe Doctrine The development of affairs in Mexico during the past few years as well as the change in European affairs have revived the discussion of the Monroe Doctrine. In response to the resulting demand for material on the subject this volume has been compiled for the use of students, debaters, and others wishing to make a study of the question. This volume follows the general plan of the other volumes in this series and contains affirmative and negative briefs, a selected bibliography, and reprints of valuable material covering the history and present status of the Monroe Doctrine, and also the arguments for and against its retention as a part of our permanent foreign policy. The continued demand for reference material on the Monroe Doctrine has made necessary, in a year's time, a new edition of this Handbook. The bibliography has been enlarged to admit references not only to the recent literature on the Monroe Doctrine, but also to many articles on Pan-Americanism, a subject with which discussion of the Doctrine tends to become more and more closely allied. The best of these articles have been reprinted for this edition and will be found at the end of the book, in the section entitled Additional Reprints. The articles in the General, Affirmative, and Negative Discussions have been reprinted as they appeared in the original edition. Book The Monroe Doctrine

Download or read book The Monroe Doctrine written by William a Maccorkle and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-07-13 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Monroe Doctrine: In Its Relation to the Republic of Haiti With the construction of the Panama Canal and the consequent change of commercial lines the importance of the Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico to the United States is enormously enhanced. With this change of commercial lines the Island of Haiti and San Domingo, in the Caribbean Sea, has become of supreme importance to the United States. This book is in no sense of the word a study or a philosophical treatise. It is simply a statement of the present situation of the Republic of Haiti and our relation to it under the Monroe Doctrine, a statement that is made for the purpose of giving our people some information as to this little known but most important and strategic island. The general substance of this little book is contained in an address delivered at Philadelphia, April 3, 1914, before the American Academy of Political and Social Science. Book The Monroe Doctrine and United States National Security in the Early Twentieth Century

Download or read book The Monroe Doctrine and United States National Security in the Early Twentieth Century written by Alex Bryne and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-05-19 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book demonstrates that during the early twentieth century, the Monroe Doctrine served the role of a national security framework that justified new directions in United States foreign relations when the nation emerged as one of the world’s leading imperial powers. As the United States’ overseas empire expanded in the wake of the Spanish-American War, the nation’s decision-makers engaged in a protracted debate over the meaning and application of the doctrine, aligning it to two antithetical core values simultaneously: regional hegemony in the Western Hemisphere on the one hand, and Pan-Americanism on the other. The doctrine’s fractured meaning reflected the divisions that existed among domestic perceptions of the nation’s new role on the world stage and directed the nation’s approach to key historical events such as the acquisition of the Philippines, the Mexican Revolution, the construction of the Panama Canal, the First World War, and the debate over the League of Nations.
