Book First Steps in Seismic Interpretation

Download or read book First Steps in Seismic Interpretation written by Donald A. Herron and published by SEG Books. This book was released on 2011 with total page 217 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Intended for beginning interpreters, this book approaches seismic interpretation via synthesis of concepts and practical applications rather than through formal treatment of basic physics and geology. Based on the author's personal experience as a seismic interpreter, it is organised along the lines of notes from classes he designs and teaches.

Download or read book Seismic Geomorphology written by R. J. Davies and published by Geological Society of London. This book was released on 2007 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We are poised to embark on a new era of discovery in the study of geomorphology. The discipline has a long and illustrious history, but in recent years an entirely new way of studying landscapes and seascapes has been developed. It involves the use of 3D seismic data. Just as CAT scans allow medical staff to view our anatomy in 3D, seismic data now allows Earth scientists to do what the early geomorphologists could only dream of - view tens and hundreds of square kilometres of the Earth's subsurface in 3D and therefore see for the first time how landscapes have evolved through time. This volume demonstrates how Earth scientists are starting to use this relatively new tool to study the dynamic evolution of a range of sedimentary environments.

Book 2D Seismic Data and Gas Chimney Interpretation in the South Taranaki Graben New Zealand

Download or read book 2D Seismic Data and Gas Chimney Interpretation in the South Taranaki Graben New Zealand written by Taqi Talib Alzaki and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 85 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The Taranaki Basin is one of the major oil and gas producing basins offshore New Zealand. The study area covers an area of 10,000 km2 in the basin, and includes 171 2D seismic lines and six wells, which are provided by the New Zealand Petroleum & Minerals. Some previous studies refer to the study area as the South Taranaki Graben. This thesis provides detailed mapping and interpreted subsurface stratigraphy and structure of five horizons, i.e. basement top, Pakawau Group top, Kapuni Group top, Wai-iti Group top, and seafloor. It undertakes studies of the relation between the basin evolution, faults, and depositional patterns. In addition, the gas chimneys were investigated along with hydrocarbon migration pathways to surrounding oil and gas fields. The horizons were identified based on observed discontinuities and seismic attributes. The seismic reflection characters of the horizons and their associated sequences are described in this study. The horizons have been mapped as time structural, isochron, and isopach maps. Seismic attributes were used in horizon interpretation and gas chimney detection. The mapping of these horizons combined with seismic facies character provides detailed overview of the structural evolution and depositional history in the study area. A map of the gas chimneys along with the late normal faults distribution shows that the gas chimneys are mostly common above the Cretaceous source rocks. Fault provide migration pathways for the gases through the seal rocks. Petrophysical analysis shows that the Kapuni Group contains a sizable amount of hydrocarbons, high porosities, and permeability. In combination with the structure of the Kapuni Group, the hydrocarbons within the group migrate to two producing fields through two migration pathways"--Abstract, page iii.

Book Structural Analysis and Fluid Flow Modeling of the Kapuni Field New Zealand

Download or read book Structural Analysis and Fluid Flow Modeling of the Kapuni Field New Zealand written by Jarret Taylor Baldwin and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 97 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The Taranaki Basin is the largest hydrocarbon producing basin in New Zealand. A total area of over 330,000 km2, the basin contains numerous oil and gas fields, but only a select few are accessible on-shore plays. One such gas field is the one of the largest (some 25 km2) and oldest gas field discovered in New Zealand, the Kapuni gas/gas condensate field. Located in the Taranaki peninsula, this on-shore, deep anticline has been conventionally drilled since 1959 due to the successive terrestrial and marginal marine cycles of the Kapuni Group sediments which allow for multiple high porosity reservoirs. A large 350 km2 3D survey of the Kapuni Field allows for a detailed structural interpretation of the petroleum system. Multiple faults, horizons, and a gas chimney were identified and tracked to produce a structural interpretation as well as a fluid flow model. Faults and horizons were identified based on the visible displacement of reflected and continuous layers within each vertical and horizontal seismic section. Through investigation and manipulation of the seismic data, a gas chimney structure was discovered which incorporated several interpreted faults and horizons. This structure proved a prominent candidate for fluid migration tracking. Through use of the structural interpretation and resulting digital elevation models, a complete and accurate fluid flow model was constructed which utilizes GIS based hydrogeologic software. The result is the construction of a baseline empirical layer which easily accommodates corrections and is readily exportable to almost any software platform"--Abstract, page iii.
