Book Genetic Learning for Adaptive Image Segmentation

Download or read book Genetic Learning for Adaptive Image Segmentation written by Bir Bhanu and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 283 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Image segmentation is generally the first task in any automated image understanding application, such as autonomous vehicle navigation, object recognition, photointerpretation, etc. All subsequent tasks, such as feature extraction, object detection, and object recognition, rely heavily on the quality of segmentation. One of the fundamental weaknesses of current image segmentation algorithms is their inability to adapt the segmentation process as real-world changes are reflected in the image. Only after numerous modifications to an algorithm's control parameters can any current image segmentation technique be used to handle the diversity of images encountered in real-world applications. Genetic Learning for Adaptive Image Segmentation presents the first closed-loop image segmentation system that incorporates genetic and other algorithms to adapt the segmentation process to changes in image characteristics caused by variable environmental conditions, such as time of day, time of year, weather, etc. Image segmentation performance is evaluated using multiple measures of segmentation quality. These quality measures include global characteristics of the entire image as well as local features of individual object regions in the image. This adaptive image segmentation system provides continuous adaptation to normal environmental variations, exhibits learning capabilities, and provides robust performance when interacting with a dynamic environment. This research is directed towards adapting the performance of a well known existing segmentation algorithm (Phoenix) across a wide variety of environmental conditions which cause changes in the image characteristics. The book presents a large number of experimental results and compares performance with standard techniques used in computer vision for both consistency and quality of segmentation results. These results demonstrate, (a) the ability to adapt the segmentation performance in both indoor and outdoor color imagery, and (b) that learning from experience can be used to improve the segmentation performance over time.

Download or read book Time varying Image Processing and Moving Object Recognition 2 written by Vito Cappellini and published by North-Holland. This book was released on 1990 with total page 360 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The new specific area of Time-Varying Image Processing and Moving Object Recognition is attracting increasing interest. This new area is contributing to impressive advances in several fields, such as communications, radar-sonar systems, remote sensing, biomedicine, moving vehicle recognition-tracking, traffic monitoring, automatic inspection and robotics. This volume provides an authoritative and timely review on the latest scientific and technical advances in this area. New digital image processing and recognition methods, implementation techniques and advanced applications are presented. New approaches for solving 3-D problems are described, with particular reference to the recognition and tracking of moving objects. The contributions in this volume, written by internationally renowned experts, will provide both a stimulus for future research in this field as well as useful reference material for many years to come.

Book SEGMENTATION DE SEQUENCES D IMAGE EN VUE DE CODAGE

Download or read book SEGMENTATION DE SEQUENCES D IMAGE EN VUE DE CODAGE written by BEATRIZ.. MARCOTEGUI and published by . This book was released on 1996 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: LE DEVELOPPEMENT D'APPLICATION TELLES QUE LA VIDEOTELEPHONIE, LA VIDEOCONFERENCE OU LE MULTIMEDIA ONT CREE LA NECESSITE DE CODER DES SEQUENCES D'IMAGES A TRES BAS DEBIT. LES SYSTEMES DE COMPRESSION D'IMAGE ORIENTES OBJET, APPELES AUSSI METHODES DE DEUXIEME GENERATION, OFFRENT UNE ALTERCATIVE PROMETTEUSE AUX METHODES CLASSIQUES. CES METHODES SE RAPPROCHENT DU COMPORTEMENT DE L'IL HUMAIN, DESTINATAIRE FINAL DES SYSTEMES DE CODAGE, ET DECRIVENT UNE IMAGE EN TERMES D'OBJETS PRESENTS DANS LA SCENE. AINSI, UN SYSTEME DE CODAGE ORIENTE OBJET OPERE EN DEUX ETAPES: UNE PREMIERE ETAPE D'ANALYSE, APPELEE SEGMENTATION, QUI DECOMPOSE L'IMAGE EN OBJETS (ENSEMBLES DE PIXELS VERIFIANT UNE CONDITION D'HOMOGENEITE) ET UNE SECONDE ETAPE QUI MODELISE LA FORME ET LE CONTENU DES OBJETS SEGMENTES. LE TRAVAIL DE CETTE THESE EST CONSACRE A LA SEGMENTATION DE SEQUENCES D'IMAGES, SACHANT QUE L'OBJECTIF FINAL EST DE L'INTEGRER DANS UN SYSTEME DE CODAGE ORIENTE OBJET. NOUS AVONS COMMENCE NOTRE TRAVAIL EN NOUS FONDANT SUR LE PARADIGME DE SEGMENTATION DE LA MORPHOLOGIE MATHEMATIQUEA: LA LIGNE DE PARTAGE DES EAUX DU GRADIENT A PARTIR DES MARQUEURS DES REGIONS QUE L'ON VEUT EXTRAIRE. CE SCHEMA A DONNE LIEU A DE NOMBREUSES APPLICATIONS MAIS, DANS LE DOMAINE DU CODAGE, CELA CONDUIT A DES DIFFICULTES REELLES. CES DIFFICULTES SONT DUES A LA PRESENCE DE DETAILS FINS, OU, CE QUI REVIENT AU MEME, A LA PRESENCE DE MOUVEMENTS RAPIDES QUI GENERENT DES OBJETS FINS DANS L'AXE TEMPOREL. EN EFFET, DANS LE DOMAINE DU CODAGE, LES CONDITIONS D'ECHANTILLONNAGE MORPHOLOGIQUE NE SONT PAS VERIFIEES. L'ANALYSE DES DIFFICULTES RENCONTREES NOUS A CONDUIT A UN AUTRE PARADIGME DE SEGMENTATION, BASE CETTE FOIS-CI SUR LA FUSION DE REGIONS. NOUS AVONS AINSI DEVELOPPE UN ALGORITHME DE FUSION DE REGIONS. IMPLEMENTE SUR UNE STRUCTURE DE GRAPHE DONT LES NUDS ET LES ARETES SONT EVALUES, L'ALGORITHME EST A LA FOIS EFFICACE ET SUFFISAMMENT FLEXIBLE POUR PRENDRE EN COMPTE UNE LARGE VARIETE DE CRITERES. EN PARTICULIER, DANS LE BUT DE RENDRE LE SYSTEME DE CODAGE GLOBALEMENT COHERENT, NOUS AVONS PRIS EN COMPTE DANS LES CRITERES DE FUSION LES CAPACITES DES ALGORITHMES DE CODAGE APPLIQUES APRES LA SEGMENTATION. ENFIN, NOUS AVONS ILLUSTRE LE POTENTIEL QU'OFFRE LA SEGMENTATION A UN SYSTEME DE CODAGE. EN EFFET, LA SEGMENTATION INTRODUIT LA NOTION D'OBJET DANS LE CODEUR. AINSI LE DEVELOPPEMENT DE FONCTIONNALITES, TELLES QUE LE SUIVI D'OBJETS, DEVIENT UNE EXTENSION NATURELLE DES ALGORITHMES DE CODAGE. CES FONCTIONNALITES RENTRENT DANS LE CADRE DES NOUVEAUX OBJECTIFS FIXES PAR LA NORME DE CODAGE VIDEO MPEG 4
