Book Seeds of Destiny A Devotional Study of Genesis

Download or read book Seeds of Destiny A Devotional Study of Genesis written by Warren Henderson and published by . This book was released on 2019-06-16 with total page 400 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Genesis, more than any other book of the Bible, provides an overview of God's immense purpose for humanity. This fountainhead of Holy Scripture stretches from the dawn of time, past the birth pangs of the world, the fall of man, and beyond to the restoration of mankind to God. God's plan of redemption is displayed through dazzling allegory in Genesis. The climax of Genesis is the exaltation of the Son of God, and redeemed souls receive eternal bliss and communion with Him. Although Genesis reveals much concerning human affairs, most of this information is in "seed form." The word "seed" is a key word in Genesis. It occurs fifty-six times - over twice as many references as any other book in the Bible. The main teachings of the Bible derive their heritage and features from Genesis seeds. Genesis is full of "initial seeds" which give evidence to realities not yet complete. As God is sovereign over creation there is nothing that can thwart His plans for mankind. Hence the seeds of Genesis are nothing less than "seeds of destiny." Genesis is a book of beginnings - the "seed plot of the Bible." -- Warren Henderson

Book excerpt: The Christian community sits upon a vast resource of vintage exposition, exegetic and apologetic writings from a host of writers who have long since been ushered into the Lord's presence. Most of these books are out of print and some are difficult to obtain. In general, these writings sustain a devotional depth and a Christ-centered attraction that is void in much of today's Christian literature. The author has endeavored to include some of the best gleanings from these writers into this book. Seeds of Destiny is a "commentary style" devotional which upholds the glories of Christ while exploring Genesis from the whole of Scripture. Seeds of Destiny contains over 100 brief devotions. This allows the reader to use the book as either a daily devotional or a reference source for deeper study.

Book A Devotional Guide Through the Book of Genesis

Download or read book A Devotional Guide Through the Book of Genesis written by Mike Newberry and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2021-03-16 with total page 426 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book started out as devotionals written weekly for a Sunday school class. I teach a young adult Sunday school class, and I regularly challenge them to develop the discipline of a daily quiet time. In hopes of removing any and all excuses, I provided them with these devotionals. During the week, I would study and write five devotionals, then I would provide these each Sunday. I would explain that they only needed five devotionals because if they came to church on Wednesday and Sunday, that would take care of the other two days. This book is not meant to be any kind of a commentary on the book of Genesis. How I approached this each week was, I read Genesis every day, and I stopped at every place where I received a thought. I would then take out my books on Genesis and study the passage, and I would write a short devotional. My hope for this book has not changed since they were originally written. I still hope these devotionals will inspire you to develop the important discipline of a daily quiet time. Maybe you've read the story about Mary and Martha in Luke 10:38–42. Jesus used three words to describe Martha. He said she was "cumbered" in verse 40. The basic meaning of this word is that Martha was distracted. How easy it is to lose focus on all the important things. He said she was "careful" in verse 41. The basic meaning of this word is that she was anxious. He said she was "troubled" in verse 41. The basic meaning of this word is to be worried to the point of disturbed. How many do these words describe them? Jesus said one thing was needed, and Mary had chosen it. Just sit at Jesus's feet.

Book The Beginning of Wisdom A Devotional Study of Job Psalms Proverbs Ecclesiastes and Song of Solomon

Download or read book The Beginning of Wisdom A Devotional Study of Job Psalms Proverbs Ecclesiastes and Song of Solomon written by Warren A Henderson and published by . This book was released on 2016-02-18 with total page 492 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The overall theme of Job, Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, and Song of Solomon is succinctly stated in Proverbs 9:10: "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding." Concisely put, to know God is what knowledge means and such understanding should prompt fearful awe of Him. In his early years, Solomon's son learned that "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction" (Prov. 1:7). As Solomon's son advanced into the school of life, wisdom instructed him that it was foolish to live without God in the world. True wisdom is inseparable from the fear of the Lord; it is man's starting point in understanding the mind of God, which enables him to resolve questions otherwise inscrutable. Those who choose to walk in the path of godly obedience find life and blessing, and demonstrate their understanding of who God is and of His ways. Warren Henderson

Book Old Testament Devotional Commentary Series

Download or read book Old Testament Devotional Commentary Series written by Warren Henderson and published by . This book was released on 1919-06-15 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The primary purpose for studying God's Word is to know the Lord and learn how to please Him. If our goal is merely to gain information we will just become puffed up with non-life-transforming knowledge. Paul warned that "knowledge puffs up, but love edifies" (1 Cor. 8:1). Knowledge that does not engage the heart will not draw us closer to the Lord, in fact, it tends to do the opposite. The aim of a devotional commentary is to help the reader pause and consider the deeper, life-related implications of the portion being read. What is God telling us about His character, emotions and attributes? How is His plan of salvation being displayed? How should we respond to His Word?Today, the Christian community sits atop a vast array of written resources, many of which have been penned by those who have gone to be with Christ. Though some of these books are out of print, they still display a relevance to current issues while maintaining a deeply devotional viewpoint, sadly lacking in much of today's Christian literature. This OT Devotional Commentary Series captures some of the richest gleanings of nearly two hundred time-honored authors whose goal was sound biblical exposition that would magnify Christ and lead to godly living. Each book in this fourteen volume series contains dozens of brief devotions. This permits the reader to use the series as a daily devotional or as a reference source for deeper study. This eighteen-year project has been helped along by dozens of gracious and talented saints, for whom I am profoundly grateful. I am also immensely thankful to the Lord for what He has taught me through this study. Being often before the Lord with an open Bible has deeply blessed my own soul. From that perspective, I count the entire effort to have been incredibly worthwhile, even if no one else benefits from reading a single volume of this series.

Download or read book The Messiah written by William Varner and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2004-11-23 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A mysterious figure called the “Messiah” is the central theme of the entire Bible. In this book that Messianic theme is traced from its announcement in the Old Testament through its development between the Testaments to its fulfillment in the New Testament. The book also examines how Jews and Christians have continued to debate this subject down until today. There are also some studies on fascinating related subjects like the location of the Temple and the ashes of the Red Heifer. While these chapters have been written from a Christian perspective, adequate attention has also been given to Jewish concerns. The Messiah was successively revealed, rejected and received. This book explains how and why that happened. “In this book, Will Varner has opened the Scripture to provide a readable, clarifying look at Jesus, the Messiah of Israel and the Savior of the world. Jesus once asked His disciples, ”Who do men say that I am?” (Mark 8:27). That is still the most urgent question - - who is this Jesus? You will find the answer powerfully and convincingly provided in this outstanding book.” John MacArthur, Grace Community Church, Sun Valley, CA and President of The Master’s College

Book Albion s Seed

Download or read book Albion s Seed written by David Hackett Fischer and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 1991-03-14 with total page 981 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This fascinating book is the first volume in a projected cultural history of the United States, from the earliest English settlements to our own time. It is a history of American folkways as they have changed through time, and it argues a thesis about the importance for the United States of having been British in its cultural origins. While most people in the United States today have no British ancestors, they have assimilated regional cultures which were created by British colonists, even while preserving ethnic identities at the same time. In this sense, nearly all Americans are "Albion's Seed," no matter what their ethnicity may be. The concluding section of this remarkable book explores the ways that regional cultures have continued to dominate national politics from 1789 to 1988, and still help to shape attitudes toward education, government, gender, and violence, on which differences between American regions are greater than between European nations.

Book Cultural Beings

Download or read book Cultural Beings written by Yuval Lurie and published by Rodopi. This book was released on 2000 with total page 238 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Human beings are a cultural species. This predicament enables them to take on many different cultural identities, all of which transcend the bounds of natural behavior of other species. To contemplate this predicament through philosophy is to reflect on such questions as, What makes cultural forms of life possible? What is encompassed in them? What lies at their core? What distinguishes them from natural forms of life? What brings them about, sustains, and causes them to change? Philosophical answers to these questions predate abstract ways of thinking, as they are sometimes embedded in ancient mythical and religious narratives. Such is the story told in the first three chapters of the book of Genesis in the Bible, revealing how human beings became the cultural beings that they are. This study suggests how that ancient and most celebrated story in the literature of the West may be read as harboring insightful philosophical observations on the cultural nature of human beings. It first focuses on the very concept of cultural forms of life, revealing its complicated conceptual links to natural forms of life. It then offers an interpretive framework for reading mythical, symbolic narratives. Using these ideas, it provides a philosophical reading of the Biblical narrative, disclosing it to harbor a metaphysically oriented conception of nature and two insightful philosophical overviews of the cultural nature of human beings. Both overviews endow human beings with an ability to manipulate nature, but in different ways: the first by subjugating parcels of nature to human will; the second by subjugating human beings themselves to a value-laden conception of things and ethical forms of life. Thus, human beings are portrayed as natural creatures possessed of a cultural nature that enables them to transform nature and recreate themselves through their unique cultural predicament.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Misunderstandings about what it means for humans to be created in God's image have wreaked devastation throughout history -- for example, slavery in the U. S., genocide in Nazi Germany, and the demeaning of women everywhere. In Dignity and Destiny John Kilner explores what the Bible itself teaches about humanity being in God's image. He discusses in detail all of the biblical references to the image of God, interacts extensively with other work on the topic, and documents how misunderstandings of it have been so problematic. People made according to God's image, Kilner says, have a special connection with God and are intended to be a meaningful reflection of him. Because of sin, they don't actually reflect him very well, but Kilner shows why the popular idea that sin has damaged the image of God is mistaken. He also clarifies the biblical difference between being God's image (which Christ is) and being in God's image (which humans are). He explains how humanity's creation and renewal in God's image are central, respectively, to human dignity and destiny. Locating Christ at the center of what God's image means, Kilner charts a constructive way forward and reflects on the tremendously liberating impact that a sound understanding of the image of God can have in the world today.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: You'll Learn from Jacob, Who Moved from Manipulation to Trust in God. Jacob is a troubling character in the Old Testament. Jacob the Patriarch is a bit too much like us -- with very human strengths and weaknesses, but a man with a striving for spiritual things. From this imperfect man we learn important lessons of faith. especially, about God's grace. The events described in Jacob's story comprise most of Genesis chapters 25-49. Each of the seven detailed lessons include probing discussion questions and can be used for personal enrichment, by small groups and classes, and by teachers and preachers.
