Book Seeding Particle Impact on Laser Doppler Velocimetry In cylinder Flow Measurement

Download or read book Seeding Particle Impact on Laser Doppler Velocimetry In cylinder Flow Measurement written by Zhenzhi Shao and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This project studies the influence of seeding particle on the Laser Doppler Velocimetry (LDV) measurement of engine flow. A CFR engine with underhead valve construction was used for the measurement. A quartz window located in the cylinder head allow the use of LDV in the backscatter arrangement. The flow velocities were measured at three positions in the combustion chamber: at the combustion chamber center, by the intake valve and by the exhaust valve. Three different seeding particles (0.2 $\mu$m TiO$\sb2,$ 1 $\mu$m TiO$\sb2,$ 3 $\mu$m $\rm Al\sb2O\sb3)$ were used to seed the flow. Experimental results provide the Ensemble mean velocities, Ensemble mean turbulence, autocorrelation and Power Spectrum Density (PSD) of the flow at all measured positions. For the Ensemble mean velocities, significant differences could be found between different seeding particles, the differences are associated with the accelerations and decelerations of the measured velocity components during intake and exhaust strokes. Less significant differences between different seeding particles were found in the turbulence, autocorrelation and PSD of the flow. From Basset's equation (1888), the motion of a suspended particle in the fluid can be described. By applying the condition of LDV in-cylinder flow measurement, particle density/fluid density $\gg$ 1, Basset's equation can be simplified and the velocity difference between seeding particles and fluid can be calculated by knowing the particle acceleration, particle diameter, particle density and fluid viscosity. The differences are related to the particle acceleration, particle diameter, particle density and fluid viscosity. Experimental data were used to verify this model and there is reasonably good agreement. By applying this model, the slip velocity between seeding particle and fluid in LDV in-cylinder flow measurement can be calculated. (Abstract shortened by UMI.).

Book Combustion Measurements

Download or read book Combustion Measurements written by Norman Chigier and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1991-04-01 with total page 556 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book begins with an introduction to the general problems of making measurements in high temperature and a presentation of chemically reacting flow systems. It describes each instrument with the various diagnostic techniques and discusses measurements that have been made in furnaces, flames, and rocket engines. The detailed measurement techniques described in this book cover a wide spectrum of applications in combustion systems, including gas turbine, rocket measurement techniques that were developed in laboratories. Information obtained on detailed temperature, velocity, particle size, and gas concentration distribution is leading to improve understanding of the chemical combustion process and to design imporvements in combustors.

Book The Use of a Laser Doppler Velocimeter in Supersonic Flow

Download or read book The Use of a Laser Doppler Velocimeter in Supersonic Flow written by William Joseph Yanta and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Results are presented for an experimental program which investigated the application of an LDV technique in supersonic flows. This paper presents an analysis of the behavior of light-scattering particles in rapidly accelerating or shock decelerated flows, an evaluation of particle production techniques and the results of several velocity measurements. Measurements included the velocity distribution along the nozzle centerline and flow over a diamond airfoil in a Mach 3 tunnel and velocity profiles for a turbulent boundary layer in a Mach 4.8 facility. It is demonstrated that LDV measurements can be made consistently with errors of less than five percent if the particle lag is considered. (Author).

Book Laser Doppler and Phase Doppler Measurement Techniques

Download or read book Laser Doppler and Phase Doppler Measurement Techniques written by H.-E. Albrecht and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-04-17 with total page 741 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Providing the first comprehensive treatment, this book covers all aspects of the laser Doppler and phase Doppler measurement techniques, including light scattering from small particles, fundamental optics, system design, signal and data processing, tracer particle generation, and applications in single and two-phase flows. The book is intended as both a reference book for more experienced users as well as an instructional book for students. It provides ample material as a basis for a lecture course on the subject and represents one of the most comprehensive treatments of the phase Doppler technique to date. The book will serve as a valuable reference book in any fluid mechanics laboratory where the laser Doppler or phase Doppler techniques are used. This work reflects the authors' long practical experience in the development of the techniques and equipment, as the many examples confirm.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This immensely practical guide to PIV provides a condensed, yet exhaustive guide to most of the information needed for experiments employing the technique. This second edition has updated chapters on the principles and extra information on microscopic, high-speed and three component measurements as well as a description of advanced evaluation techniques. What’s more, the huge increase in the range of possible applications has been taken into account as the chapter describing these applications of the PIV technique has been expanded.

Book The Particle Image Velocimetry

Download or read book The Particle Image Velocimetry written by Giovanna Cavazzini and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2012-05-23 with total page 402 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Particle Image Velocimetry is undoubtedly one of the most important technique in Fluid-dynamics since it allows to obtain a direct and instantaneous visualization of the flow field in a non-intrusive way. This innovative technique spreads in a wide number of research fields, from aerodynamics to medicine, from biology to turbulence researches, from aerodynamics to combustion processes. The book is aimed at presenting the PIV technique and its wide range of possible applications so as to provide a reference for researchers who intended to exploit this innovative technique in their research fields. Several aspects and possible problems in the analysis of large- and micro-scale turbulent phenomena, two-phase flows and polymer melts, combustion processes and turbo-machinery flow fields, internal waves and river/ocean flows were considered.

Book Application of a Laser doppler Technique to the Measurement of Particle Velocity in Gas particle Two phase Flow

Download or read book Application of a Laser doppler Technique to the Measurement of Particle Velocity in Gas particle Two phase Flow written by Stanford University. Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics and published by . This book was released on 1966 with total page 362 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In chemical propulsion, the use of metallic fuel constituents burning to particulate refractory oxides in rocket engines has forced attention to the understanding of two-phase nozzle expansion processes. In this study light from a helium-neon laser was reflected both from a fixed target and from moving particles. A lens concentrated the laser light and the light back-scattered from the particles was picked up by the same lens and directed into a Fabry-Perot scanning plate interferometer. The interferometer limited observation at any moment to those particles whose Doppler shifted frequency coincided with the interferometer transmission frequency. The light from the fixed target provided a frequency reference system, and calibrated movement of the interferometer mirror spacing provided continuous examination of velocity. Data in the form of lightscattering and number count vs velocity has been obtained for water droplets in subsonic flow, for aluminum spheres and alumina abrasive in cold supersonic flow and for aluminum and magnesium oxide in hot supersonic flow. Number count-velocity data was found to be a complicated function of particle size distribution and vector velocity distribution as well as instrument characteristics.
