Book Relational Databases

Download or read book Relational Databases written by D A Bell and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-05-23 with total page 481 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Relational Databases explores the major advances in relational databases and provides a balanced analysis of the state of the art in relational databases. Topics covered include capture and analysis of data placement requirements; distributed relational database systems; data dependency manipulation in database schemata; and relational database support for computer graphics and computer aided design. This book is divided into three sections and begins with an overview of the theory and practice of distributed systems, using the example of INGRES from Relational Technology as illustration. The following chapters focus on whether relational and relational-like systems actually meet business needs; IBM's Structured Query Language/Data System (SQL/DS); tools for database design and programming; and Secondary Access Methods and the problem of secondary index selection. A number of quantitative models for assessing the performance of physical databases are also described. This text concludes by assessing some of the most conspicuous trends in relational database research and development. This monograph will be of interest to database designers.

Book Rocket Man

Download or read book Rocket Man written by David A. Clary and published by Hachette Books. This book was released on 2003-08-06 with total page 419 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: More famous in his day than Einstein or Edison, the troubled, solitary genius Robert H. Goddard (1882-1945) was the American father of rocketry and space flight, launching the world's first liquid-fuel rockets and the first powered vehicles to break the sound barrier. Supported by Charles Lindbergh and Harry Guggenheim, through fiery, often explosive, experiments at Roswell, New Mexico, he invented the methods that carried men to the moon. Today, no rocket or jet plane can fly without using his inventions. Yet he is the "forgotten man" of the space age. His own government ignored his rocketry until the Germans demonstrated its principles in the V-2 missiles of World War II. The American government usurped his 214 patents, while suppressing his contributions in the name of national security, until it was forced to pay one million dollars for patent infringement. Goddard became famous again, monuments and medals raining upon his memory. But his renewed fame soon faded, and Goddard's pivotal role in launching the Space Age has been largely forgotten.

Book Network Leadership

Download or read book Network Leadership written by James Whitehead and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2022-03-28 with total page 281 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Across organisations and communities there are leaders who manage to get things done through their ability to understand how a network of individuals connect, who to talk to and how to bring people together in the right constellation of effort. These are "network leaders". Network Leadership enables readers to identify and make the most of informal social and organisational networks in order to challenge the status quo effectively and facilitate greater engagement and productivity. Not only will the research in these chapters help you become a better leader and manager of your own team or department, it will also help make you a better network leader, effecting positive change across teams, and departmental and organisational boundaries. Leaders who facilitate action do so through four key practices: they understand the social systems in which they work; they have convening power, uncovering and connecting underlying movements and giving voice to something that is worth listening to; they lead beyond their formal authority; and they possess the power of restless persuasion and a capacity to thrive in complexity and crises. This book is invaluable reading for those who have mastered the basics of leadership but wish to take the next steps. It is particularly relevant to organisations and managers dealing with the geographic separation of business units, change, innovation, matrix management, project or portfolio management and other cross-departmental projects.

Book Spatially Resolved Magnetic Resonance

Download or read book Spatially Resolved Magnetic Resonance written by Peter Blümler and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2008-07-11 with total page 774 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'Spatially Resolved Magnetic Resonance' provides comprehensive and exhaustive coverage of the state of the art in magnetic resonance imaging. Focusing on nonclinical applications, readers learn about the possibilities, limitations and strengths of magnetic resonance methods in a broad range of fields, from materials science, medicine, biology, to geology and ecology. New and innovative applications such as polymer and elastomer characterization, analysis of construction materials and material flow, biomedical imaging and plant studies document the significant advances being made in this field. Newcomers will find the tutorial chapter an excellent guide to the fundamentals of magnetic resonance. Based on lectures presented at the Fourth International Conference on Magnetic Resonance Microscopy held in Albuquerque, New Mexico, in October 1997, all chapters have been carefully edited and reviewed. Chemists, physicists, materials scientists, geologists, and life-scientists who wish to assess the potential of magnetic resonance imaging will find this reference a stimulating and exhaustive resource. 'This volume documents a long stride toward maturation and integration, along with the ever increasing power and subtlety of techniques and analyses, and should inspire developers and users in all areas, from medicine to geology.' Book Secure Integrated Circuits and Systems

Download or read book Secure Integrated Circuits and Systems written by Ingrid M.R. Verbauwhede and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-04-05 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On any advanced integrated circuit or "system-on-chip" there is a need for security. In many applications the actual implementation has become the weakest link in security rather than the algorithms or protocols. The purpose of the book is to give the integrated circuits and systems designer an insight into the basics of security and cryptography from the implementation point of view. As a designer of integrated circuits and systems it is important to know both the state-of-the-art attacks as well as the countermeasures. Optimizing for security is different from optimizations for speed, area, or power consumption. It is therefore difficult to attain the delicate balance between the extra cost of security measures and the added benefits.
