Book Secrets of Uechi Ryu Karate and the Mysteries of Okinawa

Download or read book Secrets of Uechi Ryu Karate and the Mysteries of Okinawa written by Alan D. Dollar and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2017-05-27 with total page 398 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This second edition is the most complete and factual work ever presented, in English, about the history and techniques of Uechi Ryu Karate as well as the culture and karate of Okinawa. This wealth of historical information was painstakingly gathered by the author from personal experience and Okinawan sources for well over forty years. Intimate sources include accounts from five people who spent daily time with Kanbun Uechi during the last ten to twenty years of his life. It contains translations from more than 600 pages of the Uechi Ryu Karate Do Kihon (Master Text) and presents 1000 photographs and illustrations. Alan Dollar's experience as a former Marine Corps Sergeant, Master Karate Instructor and Kyoshi eighth degree black belt, make him the best person to write this superlative narrative. His experience of living in Okinawa and returning repeatedly, coupled with his close exposure to the key elements and persons of past and current history take the information included here to a new level. This book is enriched with a complete, Okinawan government authorized presentation of the history and lineage of the major recognized Okinawan Karate and Kobudo styles. Finally, it contains an informative historical and cultural account of Okinawa and its people. There is not a more complete presentation of Ryukyu history and martial arts than can be found between these covers.

Book Okinawan Karate Teachers Styles Secret Techniques Revised Expanded Second Edition Master Version

Download or read book Okinawan Karate Teachers Styles Secret Techniques Revised Expanded Second Edition Master Version written by Mark D Bishop and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2019-02-20 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Progression is a positive trait, as long as one keeps in touch with the past and has a staple backdrop to focus or fall back on. Although the Revised Expanded Third Edition contains all the wording and photographs that are reproduced in both the first edition, as well as this Revised and Expanded Second Edition, it comparatively represents a step into what was, for these latter two books, the future. The year 2019, in which I am writing this foreword, represents respectively 30 years and 20 years into the future since the publication of these two books, so I think this faithful reproduction of the Master Version by Q&I Publications is well timed. For some readers it might bring about nostalgia, for others it might be an eye-opener into a world that is not always truthfully represented, due to commercial or other reasons. For the teachers who I interviewed and have been embodied herein, I hope this Master Version will remain a testament into how they wished to be represented for time immemorial.

Book excerpt: Treasured for centuries by karate's top masters, the Bubishi is a classic Chinese work on philosophy, strategy, medicine, and technique as they relate to the martial arts. Referred to as the "bible of karate" by famous master Chojun Miyagi, for hundreds of years the Bubishiwas a secret text passed from master to student in China and later in Okinawa. All of karate's legendary masters have studied it, applied its teachings, or copied passages from it. No other classic work has had as dramatic an impact on the shaping and development of karate as the Bubishi. Karate historian and authority Patrick McCarthy spent over ten years researching and studying the Bubishi and the arts associated with it. The first English translation of this remarkable martial arts manual includes numerous explanations and notes. McCarthy's work also includes groundbreaking research on Okinawan and Chinese history, as well as the fighting and healing traditions that developed in those countries, making it a gold mine for researchers and practitioners alike. For the final word on the true origins and spirit of classic Okinawan martial arts, one need look no further. This karate book is one of the best karate training supplements available.

Book Five Ancestor Fist Kung Fu

Download or read book Five Ancestor Fist Kung Fu written by Alexander L. Co and published by Tuttle Publishing. This book was released on 2011-11-22 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Simple, direct, and deadly–it's the art of ngo cho kun, or fists of the five ancestors. In its approach to iron body training, its reliance on the sam chien stance, and its special emphasis on hard and soft techniques, this Fukien style of kung–fu is believed to be the root of the Goju–ryu and Uechi–ryu Okinawan karate systems. During the declining years of the Ching dynasty, Sijo Chua Giok Beng combined the salient features of five styles from five masters into the formation of ngo cho kun, a distinct blend of both external and internal Chinese martial arts. Aside from being an effective form of self–defense, diligent practice of Ngo Cho Kun can balance the body's metabolism, strengthen internal organs, and improve general well–being. Ngo cho kun is at once historically significant and practical for modern–day self–defense needs. Five Ancestor Fist Kung–Fu is a must for those who are interested in the historical connection between kung–fu and karate, or who wish to expand their self–defense repertoire.

Book Secrets of Phoenix Eye Fist Kung Fu

Download or read book Secrets of Phoenix Eye Fist Kung Fu written by Cheong Cheng Leong and published by Tuttle Publishing. This book was released on 2000-09-01 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Master the terrifyingly effective Phoenix Eye Fist style of Chinese Kung Fu with this illustrated martial arts guide. The Secrets of Phoenix-Eye Fist Kung-Fu depicts an enormously potent art, also known as Chuka Shaolin, that does not depend on strength or size. Instead, it utilizes a special striking technique, the phoenix-eye fist, aimed at vital points on the opponent's body. Phoenix-Eye Fist Kung-Fu excels at close-range fighting—an area neglected in many other martial arts—and employs a variety of lightning-fast strikes and kicks. Due to its deadly efficacy, there is no sparring in Chuka Shaolin, but instead complex two-person practice forms are employed—both for empty-handed fighting and for fighting with weapons—in which the practitioners fight all-out, and are protected only by a precise knowledge of the form. With hundreds of clear photographs, The Secrets of Phoenix-Eye Fist Kung-Fu reveals: The fundamental techniques of the empty-handed art A complete breakdown of the two-person empty-hand practice forms Detailed instruction in Chuka Shaolin pole fighting, including the practice forms An overview of the other weapons used in Chuka Shaolin, including the sai, the twin knives, the spear, and the farmer's hoe Special forms of Chi Kung designed to increase striking power, increase vitality, and aid in resisting and healing injuries
