Book The 5th Season New year ku books 1 2 of 4

Download or read book The 5th Season New year ku books 1 2 of 4 written by Robin D. Gill and published by Paraverse Press. This book was released on 2007 with total page 469 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book, the first of a series, Robin D. Gill, author of the highly acclaimed Rise, Ye Sea Slugs! and Cherry Blossom Epiphany, the largest single-theme anthologies of poetry ever published, explores the traditional Japanese New Year through 2,000 translated haiku (mostly 17-20c). "The New Year," R.H. Blyth once wrote, "is a season by itself." That was nowhere so plain as in the world of haiku, where saijiki, large collections called of ku illustrating hundreds, if not thousands of briefly explained seasonal themes, generally comprised five volumes, one for each season. Yet, the great doyen of haiku gave this fifth season, considered the first season when it came at the head of the Spring rather than in mid-winter, only a tenth of the pages he gave to each of the other four seasons (20 vs. 200). Was Blyth, Zen enthusiast, not enamored with ritual? Or, was he loath to translate the New Year with its many cultural idiosyncrasies (most common to the Sinosphere but not to the West), because he did not want to have to explain the haiku? It is hard to say, but, with these poems for the re-creation of the world, Robin D. Gill, aka "keigu" (respect foolishness, or respect-fool), rushes in where even Blyth feared to tread to give this supernatural or cosmological season - one that combines aspects of the Solstice, Christmas, New Year's, Easter, July 4th and the Once Upon a Time of Fairy Tales - the attention it deserves. With G.K. Chesterton's words, evoking the mind of the haiku poets of old, the author-publisher leaves further description of the content to his reader-reviewers. "The man standing in his own kitchen-garden with the fairyland opening at the gate, is the man with large ideas. His mind creates distance; the motor-car stupidly destroys it." (G.K. Chesterton: Heretics 1905)

Book A Flame Beyond the Darkness of Pain

Download or read book A Flame Beyond the Darkness of Pain written by Emily Owusu-Sekyere and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2012-12-28 with total page 179 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In her book A Flame beyond the Darkness of Pain (A Widows Wilderness Worship Sound), Emily bares the innermost part of her soul as she openly and honestly shares her story with her readers. Her testimonies in the book run parallel with Biblical examples. It is a book of encouragement, teaching and hope but also a warning of the pitfalls that preconceived ideas can make one fall into. Emily places her husband in his rightful place as the head and spiritual leader of the home and the love she has for him runs through her narrative. She effectively does away with stigmas, cultures and traditions which tend to define who we are and points to Christ as the One who defines who we really are. Emily allows widows to understand that they are not inferior but that God has elevated the widow. He becomes their husband and they no longer keep their eyes fixed on their loss but on their Creator. This is a must read for everyone, especially for widows who so often struggle to come to terms with the loss of their husbands. It is also a very helpful resource to married couples as they discover the true meaning of marriage and the importance of placing God at the centre of their lives. • Pages : 187 pages

Download or read book Luminescence in Verse written by Savva Emanon and published by Europa Edizioni. This book was released on 2024-01-27 with total page 187 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Savva Emanon’s new collection, as the title announces, Luminescence in Verse - Poetry about the human condition, takes its inspiration from the author’s personal experience as a psychotherapist, counsellor, and dance/movement therapist. With a deep appreciation for having translated his extensive wealth of therapeutic knowledge into the practice of mental health and spiritual exercises and now into verse, these poems convey a profound sense of moving toward a state of bliss, as they make a sincere effort to overcome every human challenge with unwavering positivity and spirit. The perfect metrical arrangement is also a search for care to make every poetic reflection harmoniously musical. This body of work is not a magic cure, but if you use these incredible verses as a daily “mantra” you will significantly achieve an inner balance that will make you face the path of life with harmony and lightness. It is not provocative to say that perhaps today’s world needs more sweet and profound words than a bulimic world of artificial and retouched images: the profound sense of beauty is above all internal and poetry can be an excellent vehicle for this intent. Savva Emanon is a fully qualified psychotherapist, counsellor, and dance & movement therapist, founder of Calm Mind Counselling Services. Since graduating with honours in psychotherapy and counselling, he has worked with thousands of patients from age 6 to 95 and has truly changed the way people see the therapeutic process regarding mental health: moving people toward greater awareness, potential, and purpose by tapping into their innate body/mind/spirit connection. In addition to his working with anxiety, depression, and trauma, etc… he is passionate about overall health, fitness, and wellness. As a classically trained dancer in ballet, jazz, contemporary and tap, he has reached gold medals standards in Ballroom and Latin American dance. He performed for many years in venues including the Sydney Opera House, with the Freelance Dance Company. Savva became Artistic Director of Dance Initiative in Sydney. He has also composed music for several of the performances, over those years. Now he is composing music for the Calm Stillness channel on YouTube. He is currently working on 12 new books in his spare time. He currently lives on the Mid North Coast of New South Wales, Australia. www.calmmind.com.au

Book The Most Spectacular Restaurant in the World

Download or read book The Most Spectacular Restaurant in the World written by Tom Roston and published by Abrams. This book was released on 2019-09-10 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An “engrossing” history of the restaurant atop the World Trade Center “that ruled the New York City skyline from April 1976 until September 11, 2001” (Booklist, starred review). In the 1970s, New York City was plagued by crime, filth, and an ineffective government. The city was falling apart, and even the newly constructed World Trade Center threatened to be a fiasco. But in April 1976, a quarter-mile up on the 107th floor of the North Tower, a new restaurant called Windows on the World opened its doors—a glittering sign that New York wasn’t done just yet. In The Most Spectacular Restaurant in the World, journalist Tom Roston tells the complete history of this incredible restaurant, from its stunning $14-million opening to 9/11 and its tragic end. There are stories of the people behind it, such as Joe Baum, the celebrated restaurateur, who was said to be the only man who could outspend an unlimited budget; the well-tipped waiters; and the cavalcade of famous guests as well as everyday people celebrating the key moments in their lives. Roston also charts the changes in American food, from baroque and theatrical to locally sourced and organic. Built on nearly 150 original interviews, The Most Spectacular Restaurant in the World is the story of New York City’s restaurant culture and the quintessential American drive to succeed. “Roston also digs deeply into the history of New York restaurants, and how Windows on the World was shaped by the politics and social conditions of its era.” —The New York Times “The city’s premier celebration venue, deeply woven into its social, culinary and business fabrics, deserved a proper history. Roston delivers it with power, detail, humor and heartbreak to spare.” ?New York Post “A rich, complex account.” ?Kirkus Reviews (starred review)
