Book Searches for Gauge Mediated Supersymmetry at the Tevatron

Download or read book Searches for Gauge Mediated Supersymmetry at the Tevatron written by and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 5 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We report the results of searches for new physics in events with two photons and large missing transverse energy collected with both detectors at the Fermilab Tevatron collider. Several models of physics beyond the Standard Model motivate searches in this final state, in particular supersymmetry (SUSY) with gauge-mediated supersymmetry breaking. The D0 collaboration interprets also its search in the framework of universal extra dimensions (UED) with gravity-mediated Kaluza-Klein excitation decays. The results presented use 2.6 fb−1 (CDF) and 6.3 fb−1 (D0) of data collected at the Fermilab Tevatron collider.

Book excerpt: Both Tevatron experiments, D0 and CDF, have searched for signs of Supersymmetry in the present Run II data sample, using integrated luminosities of up to 260 pb{sup -1} collected in p{bar p} collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 1.96 TeV. In these proceedings, new results are presented in the search for squarks and gluinos in the jets and missing transverse energy final state, associated production of charginos and neutralinos with multilepton final states, search for the rare decay B{sub s} {yields} {mu}{mu}, searches allowing R-parity violation (muons+jets, multileptons), and searches in the gauge mediated supersymmetry breaking framework with the final state of two photons and missing transverse energy. In the absence of any significant deviation from Standard Model expectations, limits on the presence of new physics are set, which in many cases are the most stringent to date.

Book Perspectives On Supersymmetry

Download or read book Perspectives On Supersymmetry written by Gordon Kane and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1998-07-03 with total page 503 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Supersymmetry is at an exciting stage of development. It extends the Standard Model of particle physics into a more powerful theory that both explains more and allows more questions to be addressed. Most important, it opens a window for studying and testing fundamental theories at the Planck scale. Experimentally we are finally entering the intensity and energy regions where superpartners are likely to be detected, and then studied. There has been progress in understanding the remarkable physics implications of supersymmetry, including the derivation of the Higgs mechanism, the unification of the Standard Model forces, cosmological connections such as a candidate for the cold dark matter of the universe and the scalar fields that drive inflation and their potential, the relationship to Planck scale theories, and more. While there are a number of reviews and books where the mathematical structure and uses of supersymmetry can be learned, there are few where the particle physics is the main focus. This book fills that gap. It begins with an excellent pedagogical introduction to the physics and methods and formalism of supersymmetry, by S Martin, which is accessible to anyone with a basic knowledge of the Standard Model of particle physics. Next is an overview of open questions by K Dienes and C Kolda, followed by chapters on topics ranging from how to detect superpartners to connections with Planck scale theories, by leading experts. This invaluable book will allow any interested physicist to understand the coming experimental and theoretical progress in supersymmetry, and will also help students and workers to quickly learn new aspects of supersymmetry they want to pursue.

Book Low Scale and Gauge Mediated Supersymmetry Breaking at the Fermilab Tevatron Run II

Download or read book Low Scale and Gauge Mediated Supersymmetry Breaking at the Fermilab Tevatron Run II written by and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page 5 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The prospects for discovering and studying signals of low-scale supersymmetry breaking models at the Tevatron Run II and beyond are explored. These models include gauge-mediated supersymmetry breaking as the most compelling and concrete realization, but more generally are distinguished by the presence of a nearly massless Goldstino as the lightest supersymmetric particle. The next-lightest supersymmetric particle(s) (NLSP) decays to its partner and the Goldstino. Depending on the supersymmetry breaking scale, these decays can occur promptly or on a scale comparable to or larger than the size of a detector. A systematic analysis based on a classification in terms of the identity of the NLSP and its decay length is presented. The various scenarios are discussed in terms of signatures and possible event selection criteria. The Run II and beyond discovery and exclusion reaches, including the effects of background, are detailed for the most compelling cases. In addition to standard event selection criteria based on missing energy and photons, leptons, jets, taus, tagged b-jets, or reconstructed Z-bosons, more exotic signals of metastable NLSPs such as displaced photons, large negative impact parameter tracks, kink tracks, both opposite and same-sign highly ionizing tracks, time of flight measurements, charge-changing tracks, charge-exchange tracks, and same-sign di-top events are investigated. The interesting possibility of observing a Higgs boson signal in events that are efficiently ''tagged'' by the unique signatures of low-scale supersymmetry breaking is also considered.

Book Supersymmetry Searches at the Tevatron

Book excerpt: We review some of the latest results on Supersymmetry searches at the Fermilab tevatron Collider. The final states for supersymmetric processes are preferably described in terms of the physical signatures produced by the particles involved. Accordingly we look at: missing transverse energy, E{sub T}, related to the presence of neutral and stable supersymmetric particles; jets, from the decay of squarks or gluinos; leptons, coming for instance from gaugino decays; photons, predicted in gauge-mediated models. We discuss here some of the most recent results on SUSY searches performed at the Fermilab Tevatron by the CDF and D0 collaborations. The CDF and D0 detectors[1, 2] collected, during the 1992-96 period (Run I), about 100 pb−1 of p{bar p} collisions. The most relevant up-grades for the current run (Run II, started in March 2001) refer mainly to the tracking and trigger system, with minor improvements to the calorimetry and muon systems.

Book Searches for Higgs Bosons and Supersymmetry at the Tevatron

Download or read book Searches for Higgs Bosons and Supersymmetry at the Tevatron written by Volker Buscher and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page 16 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With almost 0.5 fb{sup -1} of p{bar p}-collisions delivered in Tevatron Run II, both experiments CDF and D0 are reporting first results from a vast number of search analyses. This article summarizes the current status of Tevatron searches for Higgs bosons within the Standard Model and its extensions as well as direct searches for supersymmetric particles. Signatures for production of squarks, gluinos, charginos and neutralinos as predicted by gravity- and gauge-mediated SUSY breaking scenarios have been considered. No evidence for Higgs bosons or SUSY particles has been found so far. New limits are derived which significantly improve on existing limits.

Book SUSY Searches at the Tevatron

Download or read book SUSY Searches at the Tevatron written by and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The results of search for Supersymmetry performed at the Tevatron Collider by the CDF and D0 collaborations are summarized in this paper. No significant deviations with respect to the Standard Model expectations were observed and constraints were set on supersymmetric parameters. Supersymmetry (SUSY), a space-time symmetry that predicts for every Standard Model (SM) particle the existence of a superpartner that differs by half a unit of spin, may provide a solution to the hierarchy problem if SUSY particles have masses lower than 1 TeV, strongly motivating the search for such particles at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. If there is supersymmetry in nature, it must be broken and the theorized breaking mechanisms lead to many models (supergravity, gauge mediated, anomaly mediated ...) with possibly different phenomenologies. Searches performed by the CDF and D0 experiments aim at probing the extensive SUSY parameter space in terms of mass and final state.

Book Supersymmetry Breaking Models of Gauge Mediation with Gauge Messengers

Download or read book Supersymmetry Breaking Models of Gauge Mediation with Gauge Messengers written by and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the start of the LHC, it becomes increasingly important to understand the experimental signatures that discriminate different extensions of the standard model. Supersymmetry (SUSY), in particular the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM), is one such extension that is specially attractive by its simplicity and elegance. However, if this symmetry is to be realized in nature, it must be spontaneously broken. In this work we will try to understand the most general way in which SUSY breaking can happen in renormalizable field theories and the implications that this has on the minimal extension of the standard model (MSSM) mass spectrum. The first two chapters are the introductory material: in chapter 1 we will introduce some of the key ideas necessary to understand supersymmetric field theories, and in chapter 2 we will briefly describe the the simplest supersymmetric version of the Standard Model. In chapter 3 we will focus on understanding the role of R-Symmetry breaking in determining the soft terms gauge mediation of supersymmetry breaking (GMSB) can lead to. To do this we consider a model where both R-symmetry and SUSY are spontaneously broken. One starts with the model proposed by Intriligator, Seiberg and Shih (ISS) and adds a (dangerous) marginal operator, which we call a meson deformation. The inclusion of this operator leads to the spontaneous breaking of R-symmetry in the vacuum. One then gauges the SU(5) of flavour and identifies it with the MSSM GUT gauge group, thus implementing GMSB. This was the second explicit example where R-symmetry was spontaneously broken in the vacuum. As in the first, gaugino masses iii turned out to be smaller than naively expected so that a mild splitting between scalar (squark and slepton) and gaugino masses exists. After this, a general argument showed that in fact gaugino masses are always significantly smaller than scalar masses if the universe is perturbatively stable. This arguments suggests that any viable vac.
