Download or read book Search for Supersymmetry with Gauge Mediated Breaking in Diphoton Events with Missing Transverse Energy at CDF II written by and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors present the results of a search for supersymmetry with gauge-mediated breaking and {tilde {chi}}1° → [gamma]{tilde G} in the [gamma][gamma] + missing transverse energy final state. In 2.6 ± 0.2 fb−1 of p{bar p} collisions at √s = 1.96 TeV recorded by the CDF II detector they observe no candidate events, consistent with a standard model background expectation of 1.4 ± 0.4 events. They set limits on the cross section at the 95% C.L. and place the world's best limit of 149 GeV/c2 on the {tilde {chi}}1° mass at [tau]{sub {tilde {chi}}1°} “ 1 ns. They also exclude regions in the {tilde {chi}}1° mass-lifetime plane of [tau]{sub {tilde {chi}}1°} ≈

Book Search for Supersymmetry in pp Collisions at s 8 TeV with a Photon Lepton and Missing Transverse Energy

Download or read book Search for Supersymmetry in pp Collisions at s 8 TeV with a Photon Lepton and Missing Transverse Energy written by Yutaro Iiyama and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-06-14 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Ph.D. thesis is a search for physics beyond the standard model (SM) of particle physics, which successfully describes the interactions and properties of all known elementary particles. However, no particle exists in the SM that can account for the dark matter, which makes up about one quarter of the energy-mass content of the universe. Understanding the nature of dark matter is one goal of the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC). The extension of the SM with supersymmetry (SUSY) is considered a promising possibilities to explain dark matter. The nominated thesis describes a search for SUSY using data collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC. It utilizes a final state consisting of a photon, a lepton, and a large momentum imbalance probing a class of SUSY models that has not yet been studied extensively. The thesis stands out not only due to its content that is explained with clarity but also because the author performed more or less all aspects of the thesis analysis by himself, from data skimming to limit calculations, which is extremely rare, especially nowadays in the large LHC collaborations.

Book Perspectives On Supersymmetry Ii

Download or read book Perspectives On Supersymmetry Ii written by Gordon Kane and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2010-04-14 with total page 604 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Supersymmetry is at an exciting stage of development. It extends the Standard Model of particle physics into a more powerful theory that both explains more and allows more questions to be addressed. Most importantly, it opens a window for studying and testing fundamental theories at the Planck scale. Experimentally we are finally entering the intensity and energy and sensitivity regions where superpartners and supersymmetric dark matter candidates are likely to be detected, and then studied. There has been progress in understanding the remarkable physics implications of supersymmetry, including the derivation of the Higgs mechanism, the unification of the Standard Model forces, cosmological connections such as a candidate for the cold dark matter of the universe and consequences for understanding the cosmological history of the universe, and more. This volume begins with an excellent pedagogical introduction to the physics and methods and formalism of supersymmetry which is accessible to anyone with a basic knowledge of the Standard Model of particle physics. Next is an overview of open questions, followed by chapters on topics such as how to detect superpartners and tools for studying them, the current limits on superpartner masses as we enter the LHC era, the lightest superpartner as a dark matter candidate in thermal and non-thermal cosmological histories, and associated Z' physics. Most chapters have been extended and updated from the earlier edition and some are new. This superb book will allow interested physicists to understand the coming experimental and theoretical progress in supersymmetry and the implications of discoveries of superpartners, and will also help students and workers to quickly learn new aspects of supersymmetry they want to pursue.

Book Search for Supersymmetry in Events with Photons and Missing Transverse Energy in Pp Collisions at 13 TeV

Download or read book Search for Supersymmetry in Events with Photons and Missing Transverse Energy in Pp Collisions at 13 TeV written by and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The results of a search for new physics in final states with photons and missing transverse energy are reported. The study is based on a sample of proton-proton collisions collected at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV with the CMS detector in 2015, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2.3 inverse femtobarns. Final states with two photons and significant missing transverse energy are used to search for supersymmetric particles in models of supersymmetry (SUSY) with general gauge-mediated (GGM) supersymmetry breaking. No excess is observed with respect to the standard model expectation, and the results are used to set limits on gluino pair production and squark pair production in the GGM SUSY framework. Gluino masses below 1.65 TeV and squark masses below 1.37 TeV are excluded at a 95% confidence level.

Book Search for Supersymmetry with a Photon a Lepton and Missing Transverse Momentum in Pp Collisions at sqrt s

Download or read book Search for Supersymmetry with a Photon a Lepton and Missing Transverse Momentum in Pp Collisions at sqrt s written by and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Our search for supersymmetry involving events with at least one photon, one electron or muon, and large missing transverse momentum has been performed by the CMS experiment. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 19.7 fb-1 of pp collisions at √ s = 8 TeV, produced at the CERN LHC. No excess of events is observed beyond expectations from standard model processes. The result of the search is interpreted in the context of a general model of gauge-mediated supersymmetry breaking, where the charged and neutral winos are the next-to-lightest supersymmetric particles. Within this model, winos with a mass up to 360 GeV are excluded at the 95% confidence level. Also, two simplified models inspired by gauge-mediated supersymmetry breaking are also examined, and used to derive upper limits on the production cross sections of specific supersymmetric processes.

Book Searches for Gauge Mediated Supersymmetry at the Tevatron

Download or read book Searches for Gauge Mediated Supersymmetry at the Tevatron written by and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 5 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We report the results of searches for new physics in events with two photons and large missing transverse energy collected with both detectors at the Fermilab Tevatron collider. Several models of physics beyond the Standard Model motivate searches in this final state, in particular supersymmetry (SUSY) with gauge-mediated supersymmetry breaking. The D0 collaboration interprets also its search in the framework of universal extra dimensions (UED) with gravity-mediated Kaluza-Klein excitation decays. The results presented use 2.6 fb−1 (CDF) and 6.3 fb−1 (D0) of data collected at the Fermilab Tevatron collider.

Book Particles Strings and Cosmology

Download or read book Particles Strings and Cosmology written by Kiwoon Choi and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2005-12-12 with total page 510 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: PASCOS is an interdisciplinary symposium on the interface of of Particle physics, String theory and Cosmology. Over the past two decades these three disciplines have increasingly become closer. Historically there was always a strong overlap between particle physics and cosmology. This connection has become even stronger with the realization that some of the fundamental issues in cosmology such as the presence of dark matter and dark energy may possibly find a resolution only via new theories of particle physics. At the same time string theory has begun to play an increasingly important role in particle physics as a possible framework for building unified models of particle interaction including gravity. In recent years we have seen an increasing overlap between cosmology and string theory and currently the area of string cosmology is one of the most active fields of research. PASCOS 2005 aimed to provide coherent discussions of recent developments on the interface of the three disciplines and also on their interconnections. In particular, superstring aspects in low energy particle theory (SUSY) and cosmological applications (moduli stabilization) are extensively covered in this volume. Topics include dark matter and dark energy, baryogenesis, flavor and CP violation, neutrino physics, supersymmetry and extra dimensions, flux compactification, string model building, as well as brane cosmology.

Book Search for Heavy Long Lived Neutralinos that Decay to Photons at CDF II Using Photon Timing

Download or read book Search for Heavy Long Lived Neutralinos that Decay to Photons at CDF II Using Photon Timing written by and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page 27 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors present the results of the first hadron collider search for heavy, long-lived neutralinos that decay via {tilde {chi}}1° → [gamma]{tilde G} in gauge-mediated supersymmetry breaking models. Using an integrated luminosity of 570 ± 34 pb−1 of p{bar p} collisions at √s = 1.96 TeV, they select [gamma]+jet+missing transverse energy candidate events based on the arrival time of a high-energy photon at the electromagnetic calorimeter as measured with a timing system that was recently installed on the CDF II detector. They find 2 events, consistent with the background estimate of 1.3 ± 0.7 events. While the search strategy does not rely on model-specific dynamics, they set cross section limits and place the world-best 95% C.L. lower limit on the {tilde {chi}}1° mass of 101 GeV/c2 at [tau]{sub {tilde {chi}}1°} = 5 ns.

Book Search for Supersymmetry in Electroweak Production with Photons and Large Missing Transverse Energy in Pp Collisions at sqrt s

Download or read book Search for Supersymmetry in Electroweak Production with Photons and Large Missing Transverse Energy in Pp Collisions at sqrt s written by and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Results are reported from a search for supersymmetry with gauge-mediated supersymmetry breaking in electroweak production. Final states with photons and large missing transverse energy ($E_{\mathrm{T}}^{\text{miss}}$) were examined. The data sample was collected in pp collisions at $\sqrt{s} = $ 8 TeV with the CMS detector at the LHC and corresponds to 7.4 fb$^{-1}$. The analysis focuses on scenarios in which the lightest neutralino has bino- or wino-like components, resulting in decays to photons and gravitinos, where the gravitinos escape undetected. The data were obtained using a specially designed trigger with dedicated low thresholds, providing good sensitivity to signatures with photons, $E_{\mathrm{T}}^{\text{miss}}$, and low hadronic energy. No excess of events over the standard model expectation is observed. The results are interpreted using the model of general gauge mediation. With the wino mass fixed at 10 GeV above that of the bino, wino masses below 710 GeV are excluded at 95% confidence level. Constraints are also set in the context of two simplified models, for which the analysis sets the lowest cross section limits on the electroweak production of supersymmetric particles.

Book Search for Supersymmetry in Events with a Lepton a Photon and Large Missing Transverse Energy in Pp Collisions at Sqrt s

Download or read book Search for Supersymmetry in Events with a Lepton a Photon and Large Missing Transverse Energy in Pp Collisions at Sqrt s written by and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A search is performed for an excess of events, over the standard model expectations, with a photon, a lepton, and large missing transverse energy in pp collisions at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV. Such events are expected in many new physics models, in particular a supersymmetric theory that is broken via a gauge-mediated mechanism, when the lightest charged and neutral gauginos are mass degenerate. The data sample used in this search corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 35 inverse picobarns collected with the CMS detector at the LHC. No evidence of such an excess above the standard model backgrounds, dominated by W-gamma production, is found. The results are presented as 95% confidence level upper limits on the cross section for a benchmark gauge-mediated scenario, and are then converted into exclusion limits on the squark, gluino, and wino masses.

Book Search for New Physics in the Exclusive Delayed E t Final State in Pp Collisions at u221A S

Download or read book Search for New Physics in the Exclusive Delayed E t Final State in Pp Collisions at u221A S written by and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This dissertation presents a search for heavy, long-lived, neutral particles that decay to photons in proton anti-proton collisions with a center of mass energy of 1.96 TeV at the Collider Detector at Fermilab (CDF) experiment. Such particles are typical of models of Gauge Mediated Supersymmetry Breaking (GMSB). We select events with a single photon, missing transverse energy, and little other activity in the detector. We model the photon arrival time for Standard Model and non-collision sources using a data-driven method and consider photons which have a time of arrival at the detector which is significantly delayed relative to predictions. Using 6.3 fb-1 of data collected from December 2004 to June 2010, we observe 322 events in the signal region compared to a background prediction of 287 ± 24 events. While the data are consistently above predictions, we report a model excess with a significance of 1.2 standard deviations from the null hypothesis.

Book A Search for Supersymmetry in Events with Photons and Jets from Proton proton Collisions at s

Download or read book A Search for Supersymmetry in Events with Photons and Jets from Proton proton Collisions at s written by Robin James Nandi and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An exclusion of Gauge Mediated Supersymmetry Breaking at 95% confidence level is made in the squark mass vs gluino mass parameter space using 1:1 fb -1 of proton-proton collisions data from the Large Hadron Collider. The event selection is based on the strong production signature of photons, jets and missing transverse energy. Missing transverse energy is used to distinguish signal from background. The background is estimated with a data driven technique. The CLs method is used to exclude models with squark mass and gluino mass up to around 1TeV.
