Book excerpt: We have searched for the production of free Q = +-1/3e, Q = +-2/3e and Q = +-4/3e particles produced in e/sup +/e− collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 29 GeV in 77 pb−1 of data collected by the time projection chamber at PEP. No evidence has been found for the production of these particles. Upper limits are established on the inclusive cross section for the production of Q = +-1/3e, Q = +-2/3e, and Q = +-4/3e particles in the mass range 1.0 to 13 GeV/c2, improving upon previously established limits. 58 references.

Book excerpt: Recent results on particle production in ee− annihilation at 29 GeV are reviewed. The data were obtained using the High Resolution Spectrometer at PEP and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 300 pb−1. The mean charged particle multiplicity in gluon jets from the three-jet events is found not to differ from that measured for quark jets. The production of the scalar meson S(975) and the tensor mesons f°(1270) and K*(1430) are observed and the rates are compared to the previously observed vector mesons, rho and K*(890). Finally, some of the global properties of charged particle production are presented and compared with similar results from soft hadronic collisions. 16 refs., 7 figs.
