Book Fundamentals of Salt Water Desalination

Download or read book Fundamentals of Salt Water Desalination written by H.T. El-Dessouky and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2002-03-20 with total page 691 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Industrial desalination of sea and brackish water is becoming an essential part in providing sustainable sources of fresh water for a larger number of communities around the world. Desalination is a main source of fresh water in the Gulf countries, a number of the Caribbean and Mediterranean Islands, and several municipalities in a large number of countries. As the industry expands there is a pressing need to have a clear and well-written textbook that focuses on desalination fundamentals and other industrial aspects. This book focuses on the processes widely used in industry, which include multistage flash desalination and reverse osmosis. Also, other desalination processes with attractive features and high potential are featured. It includes a large number of solved examples, which are explained in simple and careful matter that allow the reader to follow and understand the development. The data used in the development of the examples and case studies are extracted from existing desalination plants. This title also includes comparisons of model predictions against results reported in literature as well as available experimental and industrial data. Several industries include similar unit operation processes, i.e., evaporators, condensers, flashing units, membrane separation, and chemical treatment. Examples of such industries include wastewater treatment, food, petroleum, petrochemical, power generation, and pulp and paper. Process fundamentals and design procedures of such unit processes follow the same procedures given in this textbook.

Book Engineering and Economics of Refrigerated and Chilled Sea Water Systems for Semi tropical Waters Including an Annotated Bibliography

Download or read book Engineering and Economics of Refrigerated and Chilled Sea Water Systems for Semi tropical Waters Including an Annotated Bibliography written by Robert C. Ernst and published by . This book was released on 1982 with total page 82 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An overview of work done with RSW and CSW systems and the potential for the use of their combinations is presented. Particular attention is givento the problems arising from the use of these systems in the tropical and semi- tropical waters found off the Southeastern United States. Brief estimates of both first costs and operating costs are given for four hypothetical systems; however, no attempt is made to specify a least-cost system due to the number of controlling variables that must be considered in any specific application. An annotated bibliography of most of the relevant literature is provided in an appendix.

Book Minimizing the Use of Chemicals to Control Scaling in Sea Water Reverse Osmosis Improved Prediction of the Scaling Potential of Calcium Carbonate

Download or read book Minimizing the Use of Chemicals to Control Scaling in Sea Water Reverse Osmosis Improved Prediction of the Scaling Potential of Calcium Carbonate written by Tarek Kamal Abdalla Waly and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2011-06-01 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A comprehensive and detailed study on the scaling potential of calcium carbonate in seawater reverse osmosis systems (SWRO), this book provides a new approach for calculating the degree of supersaturation and the pH of the SWRO systems concentrates with the assistance of the feed-water pH and the inorganic carbon constituents. Furthermore, the book highlights the weakness in the present supersaturation indices and membrane manufacturers programs. Finally, the research suggested that SWRO concentrate is much lower undersaturated with respect to calcium carbonate than previously thought. This was confirmed by comprehensive pilot testing where acids and antiscalants used to prevent calcium carbonate scaling were completely eliminated from the pilot plant.

Book Seawater Its Composition Properties and Behaviour

Download or read book Seawater Its Composition Properties and Behaviour written by John M. Wright and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 173 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Seawater: Its Composition, Properties and Behaviour provides a comprehensive introduction to marine science. This book is divided into seven chapters. Chapter 1 summarizes the special properties of water and the role of the oceans in the hydrological cycle. The distribution of temperature and salinity in the oceans and their combined influence on density, stability, and vertical water movements are discussed in Chapters 2 to 4. The fifth chapter describes the behavior of light and sound in seawater and provides examples of the application of acoustics to oceanography. Chapter 6 examines the composition and behavior of the dissolved constituents of seawater, covering minor and trace constituents and major ions, as well as dissolved gases and biologically important nutrients. Residence times, speciation, and carbonate equilibria are also deliberated. The last chapter provides a short review of ideas about the history of seawater, involvement of the oceans in global cycles, and their relationship to climatic change. This publication is beneficial to oceanographers and marine biologists, including students that are interested in marine science.

  • Author : Steven Earle
  • Publisher :
  • Release : 2016-08-12
  • ISBN : 9781537068824
  • Pages : 628 pages

Download or read book Physical Geology written by Steven Earle and published by . This book was released on 2016-08-12 with total page 628 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a discount Black and white version. Some images may be unclear, please see BCCampus website for the digital version. This book was born out of a 2014 meeting of earth science educators representing most of the universities and colleges in British Columbia, and nurtured by a widely shared frustration that many students are not thriving in courses because textbooks have become too expensive for them to buy. But the real inspiration comes from a fascination for the spectacular geology of western Canada and the many decades that the author spent exploring this region along with colleagues, students, family, and friends. My goal has been to provide an accessible and comprehensive guide to the important topics of geology, richly illustrated with examples from western Canada. Although this text is intended to complement a typical first-year course in physical geology, its contents could be applied to numerous other related courses.

Book Chemistry of Marine Water and Sediments

Download or read book Chemistry of Marine Water and Sediments written by Antonio Gianguzza and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 513 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The most important processes on the Earth`s surface occur in the Ocean where materials and energy are primarily exchanged. In the case of marine chemistry different fields of chemistry from organic to inorganic as well as thermodynamics and biochemistry are involved. Analytical Chemistry is a very important tool for the quantification of biogeochemical processes by providing correct and even more sophisticated methodologies. These are often directly applied 'in situ', in order to detect trace and ultra-trace natural and anthropogenic substances. Kinetic and thermodynamic studies allow us to establish whether the process occurs. Once discovered it is then possible to build up general models for environmental systems. This book gathers many aspects with the aim of creating a general picture of the chemical processes occurring in the marine environment
