Download or read book Sea Quences written by Al A. Adams and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2005 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The three stories of Captain Adams' first book, Sea-Quences, are diversified in nature and offer something for everyone. The first heart-pounding adventure takes place on the Atlantic in a gale force on board the beautiful N. G. Hereshoff yacht, Vayu. The original commission was to deliver the yacht to the West Coast by way of the Panama Canal and Mother Nature changed the plan. The second adventure was the same type of commissioned delivery-East Coast departure and San Diego destination, also by way of the Panama Canal. This story is a wonderful cruising adventure with lots of descriptive geography and history along the way. Of course there is excitement thrown in by way of very close calls that can happen when out to sea! The final story is filled with fun and humor, and not without excitement, on a weekend charter sail to Santa Catalina Island. Al Adams has many stories - one would acquire quite a few stories while sailing for so many miles and visiting so many places. Seeing the world in Al Adams' fashion is very fulfilling. It is lucky for us that Al's storytelling is so complete that by reading the stories, you can believe you must have been aboard. Al's second book, Sea-Quences and Beyond, will be available soon and will be chock full of breath-taking, breath-holding, exciting stories. Don't miss it!

Download or read book Carbonate Systems During the Olicocene Miocene Climatic Transition written by Maria Mutti and published by John Wiley and Sons. This book was released on 2011-06-13 with total page 315 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Oligocene and Miocene Epochs comprise the most important phases in the Cenozoic global cooling that led from a greenhouse to an icehouse Earth. Recent major advances in the understanding and time-resolution of climate events taking place at this time, as well as the proliferation of studies on Oligocene and Miocene shallow-water/neritic carbonate systems, invite us to re-evaluate the significance of these carbonate systems in the context of changes in climate and Earth surface processes. Carbonate systems, because of a wide dependence on the ecological requirements of organisms producing the sediment, are sensitive recorders of changes in environmental conditions on the Earth surface. The papers included in this Special Publication address the dynamic evolution of carbonate systems deposited during the Oligocene and Miocene in the context on climatic and Earth surfaces processes focusing on climatic trends and controls over deposition; temporal changes in carbonate producers and palaeoecology; carbonate terminology; facies; processes and environmental parameters (including water temperature and production depth profiles); carbonate producers and their spatial and temporal variability; and tectonic controls over architecture. This book is part of the International Association of Sedimentologists (IAS) Special Publications. The Special Publications from the IAS are a set of thematic volumes edited by specialists on subjects of central interest to sedimentologists. Papers are reviewed and printed to the same high standards as those published in the journal Sedimentology and several of these volumes have become standard works of reference.

Download or read book Springer Handbook of Marine Biotechnology written by Se-Kwon Kim and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-01-21 with total page 1517 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Springer Handbook provides, for the first time, a complete and consistent overview over the methods, applications, and products in the field of marine biotechnology. A large portion of the surface of the earth (ca. 70%) is covered by the oceans. More than 80% of the living organisms on the earth are found in aquatic ecosystems. The aquatic systems thus constitute a rich reservoir for various chemical materials and (bio-)chemical processes. Edited by a renowned expert with a longstanding experience, and including over 60 contributions from leading international scientists, the Springer Handbook of Marine Biotechnology is a major authoritative desk reference for everyone interested or working in the field of marine biotechnology and bioprocessing - from undergraduate and graduate students, over scientists and teachers, to professionals. Marine biotechnology is concerned with the study of biochemical materials and processes from marine sources, that play a vital role in the isolation of novel drugs, and to bring them to industrial and pharmaceutical development. Today, a multitude of bioprocess techniques is employed to isolate and produce marine natural compounds, novel biomaterials, or proteins and enzymes from marine organisms, and to bring them to applications as pharmaceuticals, cosmeceuticals or nutraceuticals, or for the production of bioenergy from marine sources. All these topics are addressed by the Springer Handbook of Marine Biotechnology. The book is divided into ten parts. Each part is consistently organized, so that the handbook provides a sound introduction to marine biotechnology - from historical backgrounds and the fundamentals, over the description of the methods and technology, to their applications - but it can also be used as a reference work. Key topics include: - Marine flora and fauna - Tools and methods in marine biotechnology - Marine genomics - Marine microbiology - Bioenergy and biofuels - Marine bioproducts in industrial applications - Marine bioproducts in medical and pharmaceutical applications - and many more...
Download or read book Principles of Sequence Stratigraphy written by Octavian Catuneanu and published by Newnes. This book was released on 2022-07-22 with total page 500 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Principles of Sequence Stratigraphy, Second Edition presents principles to practical workflow that guide applications in a consistent manner that is independent of model, geological setting and the types and resolution of the data available. The book explains the points of agreement and difference between the various approaches to sequence stratigraphy, while also defining the common ground that affords the standard application of the method. This enables the practitioner to avoid nomenclatural and methodological confusions and apply sequence stratigraphy. The text is richly illustrated with hundreds of full-color diagrams and examples of outcrop, borehole and seismic data. The book's balanced approach helps students and professionals acquire a sound understanding of the concepts and methodology. It will appeal to geologists, geophysicists and engineers with interest in basin analysis, stratigraphy and sedimentology, as well as in all economic applications that concern the exploration and production of natural resources, including water, hydrocarbons, coal and sediment-hosted mineral deposits. - Updates the award-winning first edition in all aspects of sequence stratigraphy, from the underlying theory to the practical applications - Presents the standard approach to sequence stratigraphic methodology, nomenclature, and classification; the role of modeling in sequence stratigraphy, and the difference between modeling and methodology - Discusses the roles of scale and stratigraphic resolution in sequence stratigraphy, and the workflow that affords a consistent application of the method irrespective of the types of data available - Describes the three-dimensional nature of the stratigraphic architecture, and the variability of stratigraphic sequences with the tectonic setting, depositional setting, and the climatic regime - Illustrates all concepts with high-quality, full-color diagrams, outcrop photographs, and subsurface well data and seismic images
