Book Scissor g C3N4 for high density loading of catalyst domains in mesoporous thin layer conductive network for durable Li S batteries

Download or read book Scissor g C3N4 for high density loading of catalyst domains in mesoporous thin layer conductive network for durable Li S batteries written by Chuanzhong Lai and published by OAE Publishing Inc.. This book was released on 2023-05-29 with total page 16 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The application of Li-S batteries (LSBs) is hindered by the undesired shuttle effect that leads to the fast consumption of active materials. The separator modification by using the carbon matrix with embedded metal nitride as catalyst can ease the problem. However, the previous synthesis processes of metal nitride catalysts are difficult to achieve a balance between their high-density production, homogenous distribution and excellent electronic contact with conductive substrates. Herein, we propose a bond scissoring strategy based on g-C3N4 to prepare NbN catalyst domains with high-density loading uniformly embedded in mesoporous thin-layer conductive carbon network (NbN/C) for durable LSBs. The molten salt reaction process is favorable for the diffusion of Nb cations into a porous g-C3N4 precursor to break the C-N bond and immobilize the N element. The residual monolithic carbon framework with space confinement effect limits the irregular growth and stacking of NbN precipitates. The NbN catalytic domains exhibit a strong adsorption effect on lithium polysulfides (LiPSs) and accelerate their liquid-solid conversion reactions. The LSBs utilizing an NbN/C-modified separator show superior cycling and rate performance, with a high-capacity retention of 72.7% after 1,000 cycles under 2 C and a high areal capacity of ~7.08 mA h cm-2 under a high sulfur loading of 6.6 mg cm-2. This g-C3N4-assisted strategy opens a new gate for the design of an integrated catalysis-conduction network for high-performance LSBs.

Book Active sites rich zeolitic imidazolate framework MXene heterostructure modified separator with improved Li transport for high performance Li S batteries

Download or read book Active sites rich zeolitic imidazolate framework MXene heterostructure modified separator with improved Li transport for high performance Li S batteries written by Leiping Liao and published by OAE Publishing Inc.. This book was released on 2024-03-22 with total page 15 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The inevitable shuttling of lithium polysulfides (LiPSs) and poor redox kinetics restrict real-world applications of lithium-sulfur (Li-S) batteries, although they have been paid plentiful attention. Herein, a thin and multifunctional heterostructure (ZIF-L/MXene), consisting of leaf-like zeolitic imidazolate framework sheets (ZIF-L) and two-dimensional layered Ti3C2Tx MXene nanosheets, is developed for modification of polyolefin-based separators. A good combination of the merits of the ZIF-L and MXene can hinder the restacking of MXene nanosheets and achieve a large specific surface area, thus exposing plentiful active sites for adsorption and catalytic reaction of LiPSs. Taking these obviously synergistic effects, the ZIF-L/MXene heterostructure modified separators not only alleviate the shuttling of LiPSs but also promote their kinetics conversion. Furthermore, with an improved electrolyte affinity, the ZIF-L/MXene modified separators can accelerate the transport of Li+. Thus, the modified separator endows a Li-S cell with an admirable discharge capacity of 1371.7 mAh g-1 at 0.2 C and favorable cycling stability, with a slow capacity decay ratio of 0.075% per cycle during 500 cycles. Even under a sulfur loading of ~ 4.1 mg cm-2, the Li-S battery can achieve an excellent capacity of 990.6 mAh g-1 at 0.1 C and maintain an excellent cycling performance. The novel ZIF-L/MXene heterostructure modified separator in this work can provide an alternative strategy for designing thin and light separators for high-performance Li-S batteries, via the enhancement of redox kinetics and reduction of shuttling of the LiPSs.

Book Carbon Nanomaterial Based Adsorbents for Water Purification

Download or read book Carbon Nanomaterial Based Adsorbents for Water Purification written by Suprakas Sinha Ray and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2020-06-27 with total page 422 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The deterioration of water quality and unavailability of drinkable water are pressing challenges worldwide. The removal of toxic organic and inorganic pollutants from water is vital for a clean environment, as a response to water scarcity. Adsorption-based water technologies are among the most widely used because of their high efficiency and low cost, without relying on a complex infrastructure. In recent years, carbon nanomaterials (CNMs), such as graphene and derivatives, carbon nanotubes, carbon nanofibers, nanoporous carbon, fullerenes, graphitic carbon nitride, and nanodiamonds have been extensively exploited as adsorbents due to their extraordinary surface properties, ease of modification, large surface area, controlled structural varieties, high chemical stability, porosity, low density, ease of regeneration, and reusability. This book provides a thorough overview of the state of the art in carbon nanomaterials as they are used for adsorption applications in water purifications, as well as addressing their toxicological challenges. This volume primarily explores the fundamentals of adsorption, its mechanical aspects, synthesis and properties of CNMs, and adsorption performances of CNMs and their nanocomposites with organic and inorganic materials. Structural engineering and activation processes produce materials with enhanced adsorptive properties and separation efficiencies. Furthermore, the formation of CNMs with 2D and 3D macro-and microstructures and high porosities is a potential approach to improve adsorption performances and extend CNM use at the industrial level. The book also addresses important issues regarding these adsorbents that potentially affect future research and industrial applications of carbon-based nanoadsorbents in water security. Presents advances in multifunctional 3D superstructures of carbon nanomaterials and their composites for adsorption applications Outlines the fundamentals on synthesis and characterization techniques of carbon-based nanostructures and their composites Assesses the major toxicological challenges in using nanostructured materials as adsorbents for water purification

Book Research in Novel Materials

Download or read book Research in Novel Materials written by Rafiqul Islam and published by Nova Science Publishers. This book was released on 2013 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The most important first premise in science is that mass can be neither created nor destroyed. It is also becoming clear that natural laws dictate that mass be connected to energy. In effect, mass-balance provides the only governing equation that is both necessary and sufficient. Clearly, this compels a paradigm shift in scientific study. If a process is engineered in violation of natural principles of material production, the balance will be irreversibly disturbed, and the outcome of such a violated process both unpredictable and harmful to future generations. The post-Renaissance mode of technology development is based on an analogous corollary principle of mass production. This is an approach characterised by an excessive focus on quantity to the detriment of establishing or upholding definitive criteria as to quality. In order to make mass-produced materials acceptable to the consumer, non-scientific means have been used to cover up true properties of both materials and energy. As a result, today technologies ranging from photovoltaic electricity to genetically-modified crop production to mass-produced pharmaceutical products are considered to be in harmony with nature. On the other hand, herbal medicine is dismissed as quackery and direct solar energy usage as pseudo-science. Nobel Laureates, such as the prize-winning chemist Robert Curl, have not shied from pronouncing this development mode a technological disaster.
