Book Scattering of Elastic Waves by Rigid Obstacles of Arbitrary Shape

Download or read book Scattering of Elastic Waves by Rigid Obstacles of Arbitrary Shape written by Richard Paul Shaw and published by . This book was released on 1967 with total page 17 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The scattering of elastic waves by rigid obstacles of arbitrary shape is discussed in terms of an integro-differential equation similar to Kirchoff's equation. This approach has proved valuable in the treatment of acoustic scattering problems and the extension proposed is relatively straightforward. The advantage of this approach is that the problem can be formulated completely in terms of surface values of stress and strain thereby reducing the order of magnitude of the problem. From a numerical point of view this is a significant economy. Field values can be obtained from the surface values by a direct quadrature if required. A simple problem is discussed as an example of the procedure. More complicated problems are being considered as well as extensions of this approach to other boundary conditions (e.g. free, discontinuity in elastic properties, etc.). (Author).

Book Scattering of Acoustic Waves by Elastic and Viscoelastic Obstacles of Arbitrary Shape Immersed in a Fluid

Download or read book Scattering of Acoustic Waves by Elastic and Viscoelastic Obstacles of Arbitrary Shape Immersed in a Fluid written by Bo A. Peterson and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A scattering or T-matrix approach is presented for studying the scattering of acoustic waves by elastic and viscoelastic obstacles immersed in a fluid. A Kelvin-Voigt model is used to obtain the complex elastic moduli of the viscoelastic solid. The T-matrix formulation is somewhat complicated because the wave equations and fields are quite different in the solid and fluid regions and are coupled by continuity conditions at the interface. We have obtained fairly extensive numerical results for prolate and oblate spheroids for a variety of scattering geometries. The backscattering, bistatic, absorption and extinction cross-section are presented as a function of the frequency of the incident wave. (Author).

Book Wave Scattering by Small Bodies of Arbitrary Shapes

Download or read book Wave Scattering by Small Bodies of Arbitrary Shapes written by Alexander G. Ramm and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2005 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents analytical formulas which allow one to calculate the S-matrix for the acoustic and electromagnetic wave scattering by small bodies or arbitrary shapes with arbitrary accuracy. Equations for the self-consistent field in media consisting of many small bodies are derived. Applications of these results to ultrasound mammography and electrical engineering are considered. The above formulas are not available in the works of other authors. Their derivation is based on a mathematical theory for solving integral equations of electrostatics, magnetostatics, and other static fields. These equations are at a simple characteristic value. Convergent iterative processes are constructed for stable solution of these equations. The theory completes the classical work of Rayleigh on scattering by small bodies by providing analytical formulas for polarizability tensors for bodies of arbitrary shapes.

Book Time Domain Scattering

Download or read book Time Domain Scattering written by P. A. Martin and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2021-06-24 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The wave equation, a classical partial differential equation, has been studied and applied since the eighteenth century. Solving it in the presence of an obstacle, the scatterer, can be achieved using a variety of techniques and has a multitude of applications. This book explains clearly the fundamental ideas of time-domain scattering, including in-depth discussions of separation of variables and integral equations. The author covers both theoretical and computational aspects, and describes applications coming from acoustics (sound waves), elastodynamics (waves in solids), electromagnetics (Maxwell's equations) and hydrodynamics (water waves). The detailed bibliography of papers and books from the last 100 years cement the position of this work as an essential reference on the topic for applied mathematicians, physicists and engineers.

Book excerpt: This best-selling text provides a simple introduction to the Boundary Element Method. Based on the authors' long teaching experience it is designed to convey in the most effective manner the fundamentals of the method. The book is presented in a way which makes it accessible to both undergraduate and graduate students as well as to practising engineers who want to learn the foundations of the technique. Of particular interest is the way in which Boundary Element concepts are introduced and immediately applied in simple, but useful, computer codes to facilitate understanding. A CD with the complete listing of program codes in Fortran is also included.

Book The Scattering of Elastic Waves by Void Cavities

Download or read book The Scattering of Elastic Waves by Void Cavities written by Jerry Lee Davis and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Elastodynamic multipole theory, the theory of least squares, and the theory of integral representation of solutions are employed in solving certain problems involving an elastic solid containing a source and a scatterer. Both the source and scatterer are of finite geometrical extent; they occupy non-intersecting regions. The source is separable, i.e., its mathematical specification consists of an arbitrary vector function of position multiplied by a time function, which is further assumed to be a sinusoid. The scatterer emphasized is a finite void cavity of arbitrary shape; however, scatterers composed of rigid material may also be treated. The calculation of a Green's Function is emphasized; in this case the fields incident upon the scatterer are dipole fields. However, the method presented is amenable to arbitrary specification of the incident field; plane wave scattering is discussed as an example. While scattering from a single object is emphasized, the case where two or more scatterers exist is discussed briefly. The so-called cavity-source problem is also discussed briefly. In all cases, a first approximation to the solution in the form of a linear combination of multipole fields is derived using least squares. An improvement in this approximation is derived using an integral representation of the exact solution. The second and final approximation is in the form of a multipole series in which the terms are the fields of fundamental force systems, i.e., dipoles, quadrupoles, etc"--Abstract, leaf ii.
