Book Scattering Amplitudes to All Orders in Meson Exchange

Download or read book Scattering Amplitudes to All Orders in Meson Exchange written by and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 12 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As the number of colors in QCD, N{sub C}, becomes large, it is possible to sum up all meson-exchange contributions, however arbitrarily complicated, to meson-baryon and baryon-baryon scattering. A semi-classical structure for the two-flavor theory emerges, in close correspondence to vector-meson-augmented Skyrme models. In this limit, baryons act as extended static sources for the classical meson fields. This leads to non-linear differential equations for the classical meson fields which can be solved numerically for static radial (hedgehog-like) solutions. The non-linear terms in the equations of motion for the quantized meson fields can then be simplified, to leading order in 1/N{sub C}, by replacing all factors of the meson field but one by the previously-found classical field. This results in linear, Schroedinger-like equations, which are easily solved. For the meson-baryon case the solution can be subsequently analyzed to obtain the phase shifts for the scattering and, from these, the baryon resonance spectrum of the model. As the warm-up, we have carried out this calculation for the simple case of [sigma] mesons only, finding sensible results. 8 refs., 3 figs.

Book Meson Exchange and the Relativistic Multiple Scattering Formalism

Download or read book Meson Exchange and the Relativistic Multiple Scattering Formalism written by and published by . This book was released on 1988 with total page 5 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A relativistic multiple scattering theory is formulated in the context of meson exchange. The elastic scattering amplitude for a fermion projectile satisfies a Dirac equation with an optical potential derived from a relativistic multiple scattering series. It is shown that the two-body t-matrix associated with the optical potential is the one with the projectile on its mass-shell in all intermediate states.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The International Conference Mesons and Light Nuclei, organized by the Institute of Nuclear Physics (INP), Rez, was held during July 2 - 7, 1995 in small north Bohemian town Straz pod Ralskem. It was the sixth in a series of meetings which took place previously at Liblice 74 and 81, Bechyne 85 and 88, and Prague 91. The conferences gained already their firm position among intermediate energy nuclear physics activities. International nuclear physics community strongly supported our intention to continue the series. This year's venue for the conference was the accommodation and social area of the DIAMO company at Straz. The goal of the meeting was to summarize the present situation and the future perspectives concerning the experimental investigations and theoreti cal descriptions of light nuclei and their interactions with electromagnetic and hadronic probes, mainly at intermediate energies. The scientific program of the conference included the following areas of research: nuclear physics with pions and antiprotons, T)-meson physics, baryonic systems with strangeness, relativis tic few-body dynamics, and electroweak nuclear interaction. Representatives from many international groups working within different experimental facili ties and with different theoretical methods were invited and asked to present their latest results and future research programs. The Straz conference, attended by 102 physicist from institutions in 22 countries, was sponsored by the Austrian Ministry for Science and Research, Czech Ministry for Industry and Trade, and by SKODA PRAHA a.s. Thanks to this sponsorship we could also invite several participants and students at essentially reduced cost.

Book Selected Papers with Commentary of Tony Hilton Royle Skyrme

Download or read book Selected Papers with Commentary of Tony Hilton Royle Skyrme written by Tony Hilton Royle Skyrme and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1994 with total page 456 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The most important papers of Tony Hilton Royle Skyrme are collected in this volume which also includes commentaries by G Brown and other articles relating to the life and work of Tony Skryme, R Dalitz, E Witten and others. Skyrme's work was brilliant, profound and surprisingly useful. He provided an original solution to the problem of constructing fermions from bosons, formulating the topological soliton model of the nucleon. His two-parameter model of effective interactions in nuclei has yielded a remarkably accurate description of nuclear structure. His à-particle model of nuclei gave deep insights into the structure of important and complicated excited states. This volume is a unique collection of Tony Skyrme's work. It is a must for all physicists in the high energy, nuclear and mathematical physics community.

Book Nuclear Physics With Effective Field Theory Ii

Download or read book Nuclear Physics With Effective Field Theory Ii written by Paulo F Bedaque and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1999-11-15 with total page 386 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The method of effective field theory (EFT) is ideally suited to deal with physical systems containing separate energy scales. Applied to low energy hadronic phenomena it provides a framework for systematically describing nuclear systems in a way consistent with quantum chromodynamics, the underlying theory of strong interactions. Because EFT offers the possibility of a unified description of all low energy processes involving nucleons, it has the potential to become the foundation of conventional nuclear physics.Much progress has been made recently in this field: a number of observables in the two-nucleon sector were computed and compared to experiment, issues related to the extension of the EFT program to the three-nucleon sector were clarified, and the convergence of the low energy expansion was critically examined. This book contains the proceedings of the Workshop on 'Nuclear Physics with Effective Field Theory II', where these and other developments were discussed.

Book Frontiers in Field Theory

Download or read book Frontiers in Field Theory written by O. Kovras and published by Nova Publishers. This book was released on 2005 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gang activity in the United States has been traced to the early 19th century when youth gangs emerged from some immigrant populations. Now, as then, gangs provide identity and social relationships for some young people who feel marginalised by the dominant social, economic and cultural environments in which they live. Gangs, however, are not simply a "street family" to some of the nation's disenfranchised. As distinguished by the U.S. Department of Justice, "a group must be involved in a pattern of criminal acts to be considered a youth gang." Between 1980 and 1996, the U.S. experienced significant growth in youth gangs, when the number of cities and jurisdictions that reported gang problems rose from 2863 to approximately 4,800. From 1996 through 1998, the growth seemed to slow down, but according to the 1999 National Youth Gang Survey, the number of gang members is again on the rise.
