Book Scale Effect Investigation of Cavitation Erosion Using the Energy Parameter

Download or read book Scale Effect Investigation of Cavitation Erosion Using the Energy Parameter written by G. Sebestyén and published by . This book was released on 1967 with total page 19 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors define the energy parameter as the ratio of the volume loss of specimen material during erosion test to a certain fraction of the work done by the cavitation drag force. On the grounds of the analysis of the initial formula of the energy parameter as well as on the basis of experimental investigations, a method is suggested to allow for the influence of geometrical similarity (scale effects) upon cavitation damage when flow velocity or the characteristic dimension of the model and certain physical properties of the fluid, such as viscosity, surface tension, or density, are varied.

Book The Energetics Parameter and Scale Effect in Cavitation Erosion

Download or read book The Energetics Parameter and Scale Effect in Cavitation Erosion written by K. K. Shalnev and published by . This book was released on 1969 with total page 18 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An energetics parameter of cavitation erosion is introduced for estimating the resistance of materials to erosion. By means of this parameter the power dependence of scale numbers for dimensions and velocities is explained. It is noted that an erosion of uniform intensity should be observed in small models at a faster rate than in large models. Conditions are established for predicting the volume of erosion from experiments with models. (Author).

Book Investigation of the Scale Effect of Cavitation Erosion untersuchung Des Masstabeffektes Der Kavitationserosion

Download or read book Investigation of the Scale Effect of Cavitation Erosion untersuchung Des Masstabeffektes Der Kavitationserosion written by J. Varga and published by . This book was released on 1967 with total page 30 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The paper presents results achieved up to date and surveys the methodologic problems which are the bases of research on the scale effect of cavitation erosion. The theoretical bases of the laboratory research methods for investigating the scale effect, based on an energetic parameter, are critically dealt with. The authors describe the experimental gear and the conditions with the aid of which the energetic parameter and the similarity criterion of the erosion are determined. The possible errors of the measured values and the influence of the errors on the final experimental results are analyzed.

Book Effects of Hydrodynamic Parameters on Cavitation Erosion Intensity

Download or read book Effects of Hydrodynamic Parameters on Cavitation Erosion Intensity written by A. Thiruvengadam and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 130 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A rotating foil apparatus was developed and used to study the effect of exposure time, pressure, velocity and size of the foil on intensity of cavitation erosion. Earlier studies with a vibratory apparatus showed that the rate of erosion increases with exposure time, reaches a maximum value and then decreases. These observations are essentially confirmed for the case of erosion on an actual hydrofoil. The maximum rate of erosion is then correlated with the cavitation parameter for two sizes of NACA 16-021 hydrofoil (3 inches and 1 1/2 inches in chord length). The intensity of erosion increases with decreasing cavitation parameter, reaches a peak and then decreases with decreasing cavitation parameter at a given velocity. An approximate analysis was made to explain this result. According to this analysis, the intensity of erosion should vary as the cube of the velocity and should be independent of the size of the foil. However, the experimental results show that the intensity of erosion varies as the sixth power of the velocity and also depends on the size of the foil. An understanding of these two scale effects is essential for a successful model-prototype correlation. (Author).

Book Scaling Laws for Cavitation Erosion

Download or read book Scaling Laws for Cavitation Erosion written by A. Thiruvengadam and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the report, six scaling laws are derived and used to investigate the feasibility of modeling cavitation erosion. The velocity scale and size scale are studied with regard to six nondimensional ratios, namely. the erosion number, the relative nuclei size, the Weber number, the cavitation number, the cavitation inception number and the degree of cavitation. These scaling laws indicate that it is possible to model erosion in the laboratory and to predict the prototype performance. In addition, these scaling laws may be used to explain many currently available experimental observations.

Book Advanced Experimental and Numerical Techniques for Cavitation Erosion Prediction

Download or read book Advanced Experimental and Numerical Techniques for Cavitation Erosion Prediction written by Ki-Han Kim and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-07-08 with total page 407 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a comprehensive treatment of the cavitation erosion phenomenon and state-of-the-art research in the field. It is divided into two parts. Part 1 consists of seven chapters, offering a wide range of computational and experimental approaches to cavitation erosion. It includes a general introduction to cavitation and cavitation erosion a detailed description of facilities and measurement techniques commonly used in cavitation erosion studies, an extensive presentation of various stages of cavitation damage (including incubation and mass loss) and insights into the contribution of computational methods to the analysis of both fluid and material behavior. The proposed approach is based on a detailed description of impact loads generated by collapsing cavitation bubbles and a physical analysis of the material response to these loads. Part 2 is devoted to a selection of nine papers presented at the International Workshop on Advanced Experimental and Numerical Techniques for Cavitation Erosion Prediction (Grenoble, France, 1-2 March 2011) representing the forefront of research on cavitation erosion. Innovative numerical and experimental investigations illustrate the most advanced breakthroughs in cavitation erosion research.

Download or read book Fundamentals of Cavitation written by Jean-Pierre Franc and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-01-22 with total page 321 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book treats cavitation, which is a unique phenomenon in the field of hyd- dynamics, although it can occur in any hydraulic machinery such as pumps, propellers, artificial hearts, and so forth. Cavitation is generated not only in water, but also in any kind of fluid, such as liquid hydrogen. The generation of cavitation can cause severe damage in hydraulic machinery. Therefore, the prevention of cavitation is an important concern for designers of hydraulic machinery. On the contrary, there is great potential to utilize cavitation in various important applications, such as environmental protection. There have been several books published on cavitation, including one by the same authors. This book differs from those previous ones, in that it is both more physical and more theoretical. Any theoretical explanation of the cavitation phenomenon is rather difficult, but the authors have succeeded in explaining it very well, and a reader can follow the equations easily. It is an advantage in reading this book to have some understanding of the physics of cavitation. Therefore, this book is not an introductory text, but a book for more advanced study. However, this does not mean that this book is too difficult for a beginner, because it explains the cavitation phenomenon using many figures. Therefore, even a beginner on cavitation can read and can understand what cavitation is. If the student studies through this book (with patience), he or she can become an expert on the physics of cavitation.
