Book Multiple Parton Interactions At The Lhc

Download or read book Multiple Parton Interactions At The Lhc written by Paolo Bartalini and published by World Scientific Publishing. This book was released on 2018-11-02 with total page 471 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many high-energy collider experiments (including the current Large Hadron Collider at CERN) involve the collision of hadrons. Hadrons are composite particles consisting of partons (quarks and gluons), and this means that in any hadron-hadron collision there will typically be multiple collisions of the constituents — i.e. multiple parton interactions (MPI). Understanding the nature of the MPI is important in terms of searching for new physics in the products of the scatters, and also in its own right to gain a greater understanding of hadron structure. This book aims at providing a pedagogical introduction and a comprehensive review of different research lines linked by an involvement of MPI phenomena. It is written by pioneers as well as young leading scientists, and reviews both experimental findings and theoretical developments, discussing also the remaining open issues.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book confirms noncommutative geometry as an increasingly useful tool for the description of intricate condensed matter phenomena. It describes the striking progress recently made in gathering all the interactions and fields of the standard model into a non-commutative geometry on a simple internal space. Coverage also details the very recent technique of renormalization of quantum field theories on non-commutative space-time.

Book Graphs in Perturbation Theory

Download or read book Graphs in Perturbation Theory written by Michael Borinsky and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-11-04 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the first systematic study of graphical enumeration and the asymptotic algebraic structures in perturbative quantum field theory. Starting with an exposition of the Hopf algebra structure of generic graphs, it reviews and summarizes the existing literature. It then applies this Hopf algebraic structure to the combinatorics of graphical enumeration for the first time, and introduces a novel method of asymptotic analysis to answer asymptotic questions. This major breakthrough has combinatorial applications far beyond the analysis of graphical enumeration. The book also provides detailed examples for the asymptotics of renormalizable quantum field theories, which underlie the Standard Model of particle physics. A deeper analysis of such renormalizable field theories reveals their algebraic lattice structure. The pedagogical presentation allows readers to apply these new methods to other problems, making this thesis a future classic for the study of asymptotic problems in quantum fields, network theory and far beyond.

Book From My Vast Repertoire Guido Altarelli s Legacy

Download or read book From My Vast Repertoire Guido Altarelli s Legacy written by Stefano Forte and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2018-10-24 with total page 465 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'What makes this collection unusual and refreshing is that it is not the more common ‘Festschrift’ written by specialists for specialists, but a broad set of topical summaries and analyses addressed to a wide readership of particle physicists. Inevitably, some of the sections are more advanced in their treatment than others, but most of the material will be accessible and helpful to researchers at all levels, and in particular to those working on experiments at CERN, where Altarelli spent many years in the theory group. It is hard to do justice to the varied contents of this excellent collection … I can only recommend that anyone involved in particle research should turn to the web for a full description of the richness of material that is included here … There is something here for everyone, and much for most. I’m sure Altarelli would have been pleased with that! The Editors are to be complimented for their initiative in making this unique volume possible.'Contemporary PhysicsGuido Altarelli was a leading figure in 20th century particle physics. His scientific contributions and leadership played a key role in the development of the Standard Model of fundamental interactions, as well as the current search for new physics beyond it, both at and beyond CERN. This book is a collection of original contributions, at the cutting edge of scientific research, by some of the leading theoretical and experimental high-energy physicists currently in the field. These were inspired by Guido's ideas, whether directly or indirectly. This book is ideal for researchers looking to keep up with the latest developments in high-energy physics.

Book Introduction to Soft Collinear Effective Theory

Download or read book Introduction to Soft Collinear Effective Theory written by Thomas Becher and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-03-04 with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Among resummation techniques for perturbative QCD in the context of collider and flavor physics, soft-collinear effective theory (SCET) has emerged as both a powerful and versatile tool, having been applied to a large variety of processes, from B-meson decays to jet production at the LHC. This book provides a concise, pedagogical introduction to this technique. It discusses the expansion of Feynman diagrams around the high-energy limit, followed by the explicit construction of the effective Lagrangian - first for a scalar theory, then for QCD. The underlying concepts are illustrated with the quark vector form factor at large momentum transfer, and the formalism is applied to compute soft-gluon resummation and to perform transverse-momentum resummation for the Drell-Yan process utilizing renormalization group evolution in SCET. Finally, the infrared structure of n-point gauge-theory amplitudes is analyzed by relating them to effective-theory operators. This text is suitable for graduate students and non-specialist researchers alike as it requires only basic knowledge of perturbative QCD.

Book Exact Renormalization Group The Proceedings Of The Workshop

Download or read book Exact Renormalization Group The Proceedings Of The Workshop written by Alexander Krasnitz and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1999-08-13 with total page 238 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The subject of the exact renormalization group started from pioneering work by Wegner and Houghton in the early seventies and, a decade later, by Polchinski, who formulated the Wilson renormalization group for field theory. In the past decade considerable progress has been made in this field, which includes the development of alternative formulations of the approach and of powerful techniques for solving the exact renormalization group equations, as well as widening of the scope of the exact renormalization group method to include fermions and gauge fields. In particular, two very recent results, namely the manifestly gauge-invariant formulation of the exact renormalization group equation and the proof of the c-theorem in four dimensions, are presented in this volume.

Book Introduction To String Field Theory

Download or read book Introduction To String Field Theory written by Warren Siegel and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1988-09-01 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume covers the most up-to-date findings on string field theory. It is presented in a new approach as a result of insights gained from the theory. This includes the use of a universal method for treating free field theories, which allows the derivation of a single, simple, free, local, Poincare-invariant, gauge-invariant action that can be applied directly to any fields.

Book Algebraic Analysis of Singular Perturbation Theory

Download or read book Algebraic Analysis of Singular Perturbation Theory written by Takahiro Kawai and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2005 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The topic of this book is the study of singular perturbations of ordinary differential equations, i.e., perturbations that represent solutions as asymptotic series rather than as analytic functions in a perturbation parameter. The main method used is the so-called WKB (Wentzel-Kramers-Brillouin) method, originally invented for the study of quantum-mechanical systems. The authors describe in detail the WKB method and its applications to the study of monodromy problems for Fuchsian differential equations and to the analysis of Painleve functions. This volume is suitable for graduate students and researchers interested in differential equations and special functions.
