Book excerpt: This is book 2 of the Steel Jockeys MC series! Book 3 is available everywhere now! I won't take no for an answer. I claimed my best friend's little sister. I don't care if she wants this. I don't care if it's wrong. Tonight, she'll learn the truth: she belongs to me now. I swore I'd keep her safe. That's the last thing I said to him – her brother, my best friend – before he died in my arms. Keeping her safe meant keeping her far the hell away from the Steel Jockeys MC. A little girl like Ruby had no business getting mixed up with a clubhouse full of cold-blooded killers, hitmen, outlaws, and bikers. We drank too much. Rode too hard. So, for seven years, I kept her away. And I upheld my oath to my fallen brother-in-arms. But all of a sudden, Ruby isn't a little girl anymore. She's a woman. Not just any woman – she's a beauty. Hair like a sunlit waterfall, skin pure and flawless, curves that test the strength of my zipper. Like it happened overnight, she went from being my best friend's kid sister… To a woman that I'd kill to have. The only problem is, other people feel the same. Especially the men who slaughtered her brother. And they're coming back to finish the job they started seven years ago. But there's a difference. This time around, I'm ready for war. Because if they think they can take Ruby from me, they've got another thing coming. From the second I saw her, I knew one thing: this girl was mine now. And there's not a single man, dead or alive, who gets to lay a damn finger on what's mine. I'm a savage rebel. And I'll kill to protect my woman.

Welcome To Hangtree, Texas--The Most Dangerous Town In The World In 1866, the border between the U.S. and Mexico is a hotbed of gunrunners, mercenaries, and the Emperor of Mexico's spies, saboteurs and double agents. On top of which, West Texas is plagued by Comanche warriors. Into this mix ride two massive gangs of the meanest, most kill-happy bunch of bloodthirsty ravagers to ever draw a breath. Sam Heller and Johnny Cross have got the marauders in their sights, but they aren't ready for the slaughter and destruction the raiders unleash on Hangtree County. Suddenly, the good guys in Hangtree are dangerously outnumbered. Sam and Johnny turn to cunning--pitting one gang against the other. And what that won't do, a liberated army howitzer just might--as the border explodes into an all-out white-hot civil war. . .

Book excerpt: The acclaimed, epic, and spellbinding fantasy by Hugo Award–winning author Matt Wallace, about a utopian city with a dark secret…and the underdogs who will expose it, or die trying. They call them Savages. Brutal. Efficient. Expendable. The empire relies on them. The Savages are the greatest weapon they ever developed. Culled from the streets of their cities, they take the ones no one will miss and throw them, by the thousands, at the empire’s enemies. If they live, they fight again. If they die, there are always more to take their place. Evie is not a Savage. She’s a warrior with a mission: to find the man she once loved, the man who holds the key to exposing the secret of the Savage Legion and ending the mass conscription of the empire’s poor and wretched. But to find him, she must become one of them, to be marked in her blood, to fight in their wars, and to find her purpose. Evie will die a Savage if she has to, but not before showing the world who she really is and what the Savage Legion can really do. This remarkable and captivating fantasy will take you on a journey into the heart of brutal battles, dire situations, and odds that seem too high to overcome.

Book Rebel Power

    Book Details:
  • Author : Peter Krause
  • Publisher : Cornell University Press
  • Release : 2017-05-09

  • Pages : 420 pages

Download or read book Rebel Power written by Peter Krause and published by Cornell University Press. This book was released on 2017-05-09 with total page 420 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many of the world's states—from Algeria to Ireland to the United States—are the result of robust national movements that achieved independence. Many other national movements have failed in their attempts to achieve statehood, including the Basques, the Kurds, and the Palestinians. In Rebel Power, Peter Krause offers a powerful new theory to explain this variation focusing on the internal balance of power among nationalist groups, who cooperate with each other to establish a new state while simultaneously competing to lead it. The most powerful groups push to achieve states while they are in position to rule them, whereas weaker groups unlikely to gain the spoils of office are likely to become spoilers, employing risky, escalatory violence to forestall victory while they improve their position in the movement hierarchy. Hegemonic movements with one dominant group are therefore more likely to achieve statehood than internally competitive, fragmented movements due to their greater pursuit of victory and lesser use of counterproductive violence. Krause conducted years of fieldwork in government and nationalist group archives in the Middle East, North Africa, and Europe, as well as more than 150 interviews with participants in the Palestinian, Zionist, Algerian, and Irish national movements. This research generated comparative longitudinal analyses of these four national movements involving 40 groups in 44 campaigns over a combined 140 years of struggle. Krause identifies new turning points in the history of these movements and provides fresh explanations for their use of violent and nonviolent strategies, as well as their numerous successes and failures. Rebel Power is essential reading for understanding not only the history of national movements but also the causes and consequences of contentious collective action today, from the Arab Spring to the civil wars and insurgencies in Syria, Afghanistan, Iraq, and beyond.
