Book Architectural Colour in the Professional Palette

Download or read book Architectural Colour in the Professional Palette written by Fiona McLachlan and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-08-15 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How do architects use color? Do they adopt a different strategy or starting point for every project? Do they gradually cultivate individual color palettes, which develop alongside their body of built work? Do they utilize, or are they aware of, the body of theoretical work that underpins the use of color in the past, and forms the basis of most of the color systems commercially available today? Informed by the author’s thirty years in architectural practice and academia, this book investigates, documents and analyzes the work of a number of contemporary architects in order to respond to these questions and provide a clear reference of contemporary color use. The book suggests a holistic approach to the integration of color in architecture; through a series of thematic essays, the text explores and reveals underlying principles in color design and application. Case studies include: AHMM Caruso St John Erich Wiesner and Otto Steidle Gigon/Guyer O’Donnell + Tuomey Sauerbruch Hutton Steven Holl UN Studio. The book provides clear insights into how particular contemporary architects use color confidently and intelligently as an integral part of their design philosophy, in conjunction with their choices of materials and finishes. Offering a stimulating view of the history of color theory, and pragmatic advice to practicing architects, this book will be inspiring to both design professionals and students.

Who tested new approaches and when were important discoveries and experiments accepted? This book illuminates the history and development of building, in all its constructive, technical and cultural aspects, from the Industrial Revolution to the present and into the future. One hundred case scenarios articulate how new ideas, their context and ideology, became integral parts of the build environment. The insightful texts and numerous images make this volume an essential handbook of architectural and structural history for students and professionals."--BOOK JACKET.

Book B rgin Nissen Wentzlaff Architekten

Download or read book B rgin Nissen Wentzlaff Architekten written by Bürgin Nissen Wentzlaff Architekten and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page 136 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Architecture -- consequently a book on architecture as well -- can be contradictory: it should ask questions and explain processes rather than offer solutions". The first monograph on Burgin Nissen Wentzlaff owes its unusual concept to this statement by the three architects. Whereas the buildings and projects of the past twelve years are precisely documented on the right-hand pages in the book, the texts, illustrations, pictures, and questions on the left-hand pages demonstrate the tasks and challenges characteristic for the work of the office. The central themes include "side issues", "disintegration of archetypes", "interaction of form and interpretation", "comprehensive seeing", and "senses and scales". The frictions and contradictions between these two sides of the practice are not oppressed or censored but are consciously juxtaposed. The resulting book oscillates between idea and building, reality and concept, offering a stimulating insight into the work of this unique architectural office.

Download or read book Archive written by Matthias Sauerbruch and published by Lars Muller Publishers. This book was released on 2006 with total page 360 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This compendium offers a new insight into the work of Sauerbruch Hutton. The development of their architectural thinking can be traced completely from the texts of the architects, the considerable number of unimplemented designs, and realized or under construction projects, such as: the GSW headquarters in Berlin, the Federal Environment Agency in Dessau or the Museum for the Brandhorst Collection in Munich. On one hand, the book provides a far-reaching overview, and on the other hand it makes clear how each project was individually developed out of its structural and social context, and how the respective forms emerge from functional, technical, spatial and sculptural considerations. The book reveals how Sauerbruch Hutton understands their work as a process of continuous research. In doing so, the focus of sustainability repeatedly appears throughout the book as an integral part of their interest. In addition, the architects have developed their own language, which is recognizable by the spatial use of color and material as well as their organic corporeality.

  • Author : David Leatherbarrow

Download or read book Surface Architecture written by David Leatherbarrow and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 2005-02-11 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A study of the building surface, architecture's primary instrument of identity and engagement with its surroundings. Visually, many contemporary buildings either reflect their systems of production or recollect earlier styles and motifs. This division between production and representation is in some ways an extension of that between modernity and tradition. In this book, David Leatherbarrow and Mohsen Mostafavi explore ways that design can take advantage of production methods such that architecture is neither independent of nor dominated by technology. Leatherbarrow and Mostafavi begin with the theoretical and practical isolation of the building surface as the subject of architectural design. The autonomy of the surface, the "free facade," presumes a distinction between the structural and nonstructural elements of the building, between the frame and the cladding. Once the skin of the building became independent of its structure, it could just as well hang like a curtain, or like clothing. The focus of the relationship between structure and skin is the architectural surface. In tracing the handling of this surface, the authors examine both contemporary buildings and those of the recent past. Architects discussed include Albert Kahn, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, Alison and Peter Smithson, Alejandro de la Sota, Robert Venturi, Jacques Herzog, and Pierre de Meuron. The properties of a building's surface—whether it is made of concrete, metal, glass, or other materials—are not merely superficial; they construct the spatial effects by which architecture communicates. Through its surfaces a building declares both its autonomy and its participation in its surroundings.

Book Sauerbruch Hutton

Download or read book Sauerbruch Hutton written by Matthias Sauerbruch and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sauerbruch and Hutton are unique among contemporary architects in their redefinition of colour as an essential material of architecture. The polychromatic treatment of their buildings created over the past twenty years reflect and concentrate the colours, forms and energies of the contemporary city. Simultaneously image and sculpture, ornament and text, they allow the complex technical reality of a building to disappear behind a powerful aesthetic experience. Beside Sauerbruch Hutton's renowned buildings such as the GSW Headquarters in Berlin, the Federal Environmental Agency Dessau or Munich's Brandhorst Museum, this book also shows their more recent work. Highlighting the sensual force of colour, Noshe's vibrant photographs reveal the architects' search for the expression of an architecture of sustainability that transcends both technical perfection and energyefficient performance. Words by Jonathan Glancey, Louisa Hutton and Matthias Sauerbruch complement the photographs.
