Book Decentralization for Satisfying Basic Needs 2nd Edition

Download or read book Decentralization for Satisfying Basic Needs 2nd Edition written by J. Michael McGuire and published by IAP. This book was released on 2010-03-01 with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: More than one in every five Latin Americans lives on less than $2 a day, and Latin America is the most unequal region in the world. The book tackles the problem of poverty and inequality in Latin America through the novel approach of using the decentralization of government functions to satisfy the basic needs of the poor. Decentralization can bring government closer to the people and strengthen the voice of the voiceless. Satisfying basic needs for services such as education and health care enhances productivity and imparts an indispensable opportunity to earn an income sufficient to emerge from poverty and to live a full life. Part 1 describes the poverty and inequality of Latin America and the Basic Needs Approach to Development. Part 2 introduces a model of decentralization as a step-by-step process, and it shows the policymaker how to implement decentralization in stages through matching its various degrees with real-world circumstances. Part 3 enriches the understanding of policymakers by analyzing real-world cases of decentralization in light of the decentralization model. The second edition includes two new chapters that cover the important but often neglected topic of taxation for inclusive development. Chapter 8 analyzes the influential tax advice of the World Bank in terms of its effect on decentralization and the satisfaction of basic needs. Appendix B of Chapter 8 presents an empirical analysis in support of the chapter’s argument that the Bank’s policy is in need of revision. Chapter 9 analyzes the effects of the World Bank’s tax advice on El Salvador’s tax reform and development process. Two other chapters have been extensively updated: Chapter 6 records and analyzes the rapid evolution of Mexico’s Oportunidades program for health, education and nutrition, and Chapter 10 evaluates the progress of the United States’ innovative program for foreign aid, The Millennium Challenge Account. Throughout the book, tables and references have been updated.

Book Characterising locally finite groups satisfying the strong Sylow Theorem for the prime p

Download or read book Characterising locally finite groups satisfying the strong Sylow Theorem for the prime p written by Dipl.-Math. Felix Flemisch and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2022-08-08 with total page 46 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Revised edition is based on the author's paper "Characterising Locally Finite Groups Satisfying the Strong Sylow Theorem for the Prime p" which has been published on pp. 13-39 of Volume 13 of the very fine open access mathematical journal Advances in Group Theory and Applications (AGTA) (see https://www.advgrouptheory.com/journal/#read). For that paper the author has transferred the copyright to AGTA. The Revised edition introduces quite a number of corrections and embellishments, highlighted in light green, which could not have been considered by AGTA, and especially a much more beautiful line and page formatting. For these enhancements the author has kept the copyright. The Revised edition adds Pages i to vi, Pages 26a to 26f and Pages xiii to xviii to the AGTA paper which either are required for a book - the front matter (die "Titelei") - or describe related aspects and background which cannot be published in a mathematical journal. The Revised edition incorporates major revisions by the author and by editors as well as some supplementary material designed to bring the research paper up to date.

Book Life s Satisfying the Need of the Immoral

Download or read book Life s Satisfying the Need of the Immoral written by Witness Lee and published by Living Stream Ministry. This book was released on 2022-06-20 with total page 11 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Every human being has a need related to his or her condition. In his Gospel, John presents nine cases that represent the various conditions and needs of human beings in order to illustrate that Jesus Christ as life fully meets the need of man's every case. In this booklet taken from Life-study of John, Witness Lee presents the second of these nine cases, the case of the Samaritan woman in John 4. The case of the Samaritan woman illustrates the second need of all mankind—the need for satisfaction. At some point, regardless of our success or attainments, we all have had the feeling of being empty, and this emptiness, this sense of dissatisfaction, corresponds to the Samaritan woman's situation. However, just as Christ as life was able to meet the need of Nicodemus in John 3, so also is it able to meet the need presented in John 4. Thus, to the Samaritan woman, the Lord Jesus unveiled life’s satisfying.

Book Are Liberty and Equality Compatible

Download or read book Are Liberty and Equality Compatible written by Jan Narveson and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2010-04-22 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Are the political ideals of liberty and equality compatible? This question is of central and continuing importance in political philosophy, moral philosophy, and welfare economics. In this book, two distinguished philosophers take up the debate. Jan Narveson argues that a political ideal of negative liberty is incompatible with any substantive ideal of equality, while James P. Sterba argues that Narveson's own ideal of negative liberty is compatible, and in fact leads to the requirements of a substantive ideal of equality. Of course, they cannot both be right. Thus, the details of their arguments about the political ideal of negative liberty and its requirements will determine which of them is right. Engagingly and accessibly written, their debate will be of value to all who are interested in the central issue of what are the practical requirements of a political ideal of liberty.

Book Introduction to Static Analysis

Download or read book Introduction to Static Analysis written by Xavier Rival and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 2020-02-11 with total page 315 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A self-contained introduction to abstract interpretation–based static analysis, an essential resource for students, developers, and users. Static program analysis, or static analysis, aims to discover semantic properties of programs without running them. It plays an important role in all phases of development, including verification of specifications and programs, the synthesis of optimized code, and the refactoring and maintenance of software applications. This book offers a self-contained introduction to static analysis, covering the basics of both theoretical foundations and practical considerations in the use of static analysis tools. By offering a quick and comprehensive introduction for nonspecialists, the book fills a notable gap in the literature, which until now has consisted largely of scientific articles on advanced topics. The text covers the mathematical foundations of static analysis, including semantics, semantic abstraction, and computation of program invariants; more advanced notions and techniques, including techniques for enhancing the cost-accuracy balance of analysis and abstractions for advanced programming features and answering a wide range of semantic questions; and techniques for implementing and using static analysis tools. It begins with background information and an intuitive and informal introduction to the main static analysis principles and techniques. It then formalizes the scientific foundations of program analysis techniques, considers practical aspects of implementation, and presents more advanced applications. The book can be used as a textbook in advanced undergraduate and graduate courses in static analysis and program verification, and as a reference for users, developers, and experts.

ISMIS is a conference series started in 1986. Held twice every three years, ISMIS provides an inter- tional forum for exchanging scienti?c research and technological achievements in building intelligent systems. Its goal is to achieve a vibrant interchange - tween researchers and practitioners on fundamental and advanced issues related to intelligent systems. ISMIS 2008featureda selectionof latestresearchworkandapplicationsfrom the following areas related to intelligent systems: active media human–computer interaction, autonomic and evolutionary computation, digital libraries, intel- gent agent technology, intelligent information retrieval, intelligent information systems, intelligent language processing, knowledge representation and integ- tion, knowledge discovery and data mining, knowledge visualization, logic for arti?cial intelligence, soft computing, Web intelligence, and Web services. - searchers and developers from 29 countries submitted more than 100 full - pers to the conference. Each paper was rigorously reviewed by three committee members and external reviewers. Out of these submissions, 40% were selected as regular papers and 22% as short papers.
