Book The Way of the Satisfied Woman

Download or read book The Way of the Satisfied Woman written by Alanna Kaivalya and published by New World Library. This book was released on 2024-11-26 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mythology expert, author, musician, and scholar Alanna Kaivalya presents a new paradigm that defines the feminine journey for the modern age and empowers women to transcend masculine conditions for success and flourish on their own terms For centuries, women have fought for greater opportunity to make their own choices, build independent lives, craft powerful careers, and exercise their own agency. But has this been the wrong approach? Too often, women have forged paths by following the trajectory laid out by men and emulating what men identify as desirable. Could this be why many women remain unsatisfied and overwhelmed? The Way of the Satisfied Woman offers an alternative path for women, and for anyone who cares to focus more on the feminine than the masculine. The path of the feminine is simply different — exquisite, unique, and integral. Through her extensive knowledge of world mythology, Alanna Kaivalya shows how embodying feminine energy sets us free, relaxes us, and allows us to more completely manifest the things that are most important to us, including connection, communion, and compassion. Kaivalya covers: • definitions of masculine and feminine energies in terms that embrace gender differences and affirm the experience of the modern woman • prominent qualities of the feminine as represented by mythological archetypes and modern psychology • the feminine journey toward satisfaction and how it is both unique and complementary to the well-defined masculine journey • the relationship between masculine and feminine and its manifestations in intimate partnerships • tools for redefining the feminine in modern language, ideas, and arenas, including career, family, success, community, and legacy A necessary antidote to a culture that defines equality as “equal to what men have,” The Way of the Satisfied Woman is a call for reclaiming the extraordinary balance of the feminine way, in both the life of the individual and the wider world.

Book The Technology of Orgasm

Download or read book The Technology of Orgasm written by Rachel P. Maines and published by JHU Press. This book was released on 2001-06-15 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The author explores hysteria in Western medicine throughout the ages and examines the characterization of female sexuality as a disease requiring treatment. Medical authorities, she writes, were able to defend and justify the clinical production of orgasm in women as necessary to maintain the dominant view of sexuality, which defined sex as penetration to male orgasm - a practice that consistently fails to produce orgasm in a majority of the female population. This male-centered definition of satisfying and healthy coitus shaped not only the development of concepts of female sexual pathology but also the instrumentation designed to cope with them.

Book excerpt: Soul hungers are real and normal. Unfortunately, these universal human longings can drive us to dangerous places, risky behaviors, and enslaving addictions. Much of the drama and discontent that plagues the lives of modern women can be traced directly to a hungry soul. Women often try to satisfy their cravings by shopping, overeating, seeking the attention of men, or having children. What they really hunger for, though, is deep and lasting spiritual fulfillment. In Satisfied...at Last!, author Kay Harms shows women who are tired of looking for soul satisfaction in all the wrong places how to find truth, guidance, and fulfillment by interacting with the Word of God intimately and daily. But, for even the most devout Christians, the Bible can be mystifying. How can an invisible, spirit-God satisfy the deepest cravings of the soul, when He cant be seen, heard, or touched? Through thirty truthful, transparent lessons, Satisfied...at Last! guides the reader through a study of the Scriptures specially designed to address the soul hungers of women. Why settle for unfulfilling junk food when the Word of God can introduce you to the richly satisfying Bread of Life?

Download or read book The Satisfied Life written by Jane Ellen McAvoy and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2009-07-01 with total page 153 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Christianity centers on the life and death of Jesus as Christ. Often Christians focus on the importance of Christ's Sacrifice as the means of human salvation, and the faithful are encouraged to imitate this suffering through self-sacrifice and self-denial. More than a few Christians, particularly women, have found such encouragement to self-sacrifice to be a means for continuing oppression--men over women, colonizers over the colonized, the powerful over the powerless. In The Satisfied Life, Jane McAvoy constructs a feminist theology of atonement--or satisfaction for sin--that draws on the insights of six medieval women mystics: Julian of Norwich, Mechthild of Magdeburg, Hildegard of Bingen, Margery Kempe, Hadewijch of Brabant, and Catherine of Siena. These Christian writers reveal alternatives to a theology of oppression. Salvation, for them, means experiencing the death and resurrection of Christ not as life-denying, but as a life-affirming celebration of God's love for us through the sustaining love of Jesus.

Book Single and Satisfied

Book excerpt: "Single women can sometimes be magnets for awkward questions, especially within the church community. What do you do with your life if you're not married? With an emphasis on strong marriages and biblical childrearing, unmarried women in the church can begin to think that they are somehow on the sidelines. But this is not the case. In this helpful volume, Nancy Wilson provides straightforward counsel and encouragement for those struggling with "the wait." She addresses practical concerns like building a career but focuses more specifically on important relational issues such as interacting with competitive women, respecting your parents even after you've left their home, establishing standards for male friends, and keeping the right outlook on your life. Whether a woman is called to singleness for a short time or for her whole life, she is called to be fruitful in God's kingdom"--

Book Why Women Have Better Sex Under Socialism

Download or read book Why Women Have Better Sex Under Socialism written by Kristen R. Ghodsee and published by Bold Type Books. This book was released on 2018-11-20 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A spirited, deeply researched exploration of why capitalism is bad for women and how, when done right, socialism leads to economic independence, better labor conditions, better work-life balance and, yes, even better sex. In a witty, irreverent op-ed piece that went viral, Kristen Ghodsee argued that women had better sex under socialism. The response was tremendous — clearly she articulated something many women had sensed for years: the problem is with capitalism, not with us. Ghodsee, an acclaimed ethnographer and professor of Russian and East European Studies, spent years researching what happened to women in countries that transitioned from state socialism to capitalism. She argues here that unregulated capitalism disproportionately harms women, and that we should learn from the past. By rejecting the bad and salvaging the good, we can adapt some socialist ideas to the 21st century and improve our lives. She tackles all aspects of a woman's life - work, parenting, sex and relationships, citizenship, and leadership. In a chapter called "Women: Like Men, But Cheaper," she talks about women in the workplace, discussing everything from the wage gap to harassment and discrimination. In "What To Expect When You're Expecting Exploitation," she addresses motherhood and how "having it all" is impossible under capitalism. Women are standing up for themselves like never before, from the increase in the number of women running for office to the women's march to the long-overdue public outcry against sexual harassment. Interest in socialism is also on the rise -- whether it's the popularity of Bernie Sanders or the skyrocketing membership numbers of the Democratic Socialists of America. It's become increasingly clear to women that capitalism isn't working for us, and Ghodsee is the informed, lively guide who can show us the way forward.

Book The Art of Receiving and Giving

Download or read book The Art of Receiving and Giving written by Betty Martin and published by . This book was released on 2021-02-19 with total page 422 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why would most people endure unwanted or unsatisfying touch, rather than speak up for their own boundaries and desires? It's a question with a myriad of answers - and one that Dr. Betty Martin has explored in her 40+ years as a hands-on practitioner, first as a chiropractor and later as a Somatic Sex Educator, Certified Surrogate Partner and Sacred Intimate. In her client sessions, she noticed a pattern wherein many clients would "allow" or go along with discomfort or unease rather than speak up for what they wanted or didn't want. Betty discovered there was a major component missing for people -- the confidence that we have a choice about what is happening to us. In her framework, "The Wheel of Consent(R)" Betty traces the fundamental roots of consent back to our childhood conditioning. As children, we are taught that to be "good" we must ignore our body's discomfort and be compliant: to finish our food even if we're full, to go to bed - even if we're not tired, to let relatives hug and kiss us even if we don't want to. We learn that our feelings don't matter more than what is happening, and that we don't have a choice but to go along, whether or not we want it. As adults, this conditioning remains with us until we have an opportunity to unlearn it, which is why consent violations are often only called out after the violation has occurred - because we have not been taught or empowered to notice our boundaries, much less value or express our internal signals as the unwanted action is happening. In this book, Betty guides the reader through the Wheel of Consent framework, and shares practices to help us recover the ability to notice what we want and set clear boundaries. While the practices are based on exchanges of touch, they can also be learned without touch. In these practices, we discover that the Art of Giving includes knowing our own limits so we can be more generous within those limits, and not give beyond our capacity - a common problem which creates feelings of resentment or martyrdom. We also discover that the Art of Receiving invites us to notice and ask for what we really want, and not just what we think we are supposed to want. This knowledge, and its embodied practice, is foundational for creating clear agreements and bringing more satisfaction into relationships. While much of consent education focuses on noticing what we don't want, or prevention of violation, Betty has developed a "pleasure-forward" approach to teaching consent. By first accessing and awakening (sometimes re-awakening) our bodies' relationship to pleasure and what we want, we can practice noticing and verbalizing what we don't want. Such an approach provides a more holistic frame in which to unlearn the childhood conditioning that taught us to be silent and compliant, and in which individuals can learn to ask for what they want and state what they don't, in a more empowered way. The implications of this approach to consent education extends beyond touch and intimate relationships. When we forget how to notice what we really want, we lose our inner compass. When we continue to go along with things we don't feel are right, we lose our ability to speak up against injustice. This has a profound effect on society. We allow all manner of inequality, corruption, theft of natural resources and our planet's future health - because "going along with it" feels normal. The Wheel of Consent offers a deeply nuanced way to practice consent as an agreement that brings integrity, responsibility, and empowerment into human interaction, starting with touch and relationships, and further expanding our understanding of consent to social issues of equality and justice.
