Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From Wall Street Journal and USA Today bestselling author Lauren Landish comes The Virgin Diaries, a series of take-charge alpha heroes and the sassy, innocent women who bring them to their knees. I have a confession to make. I hate my math professor, Connor Daniels. From the moment he walked into class, he's been a thorn in my side, nitpicking every little thing that I do. It burns me how he expects me to be just as perfect as he is. I get that professors are supposed to challenge their students, but he's such a . . . He's a dick. Cocky. Big-headed. Egotistical. So why can't I stop fantasizing about him? Standing up there in his tight jeans, his bulge practically flaunted in my face. I picture the victorious way he'd smirk as he bent me over his desk, flipping my skirt up and taking me. Like it was inevitable. But here's the thing . . . I don't want him to just take my body, or my virginity. I want him to teach me . . . everything.

Book Ancient Texts and Languages of Ethnic Groups Along the Silk Road

Download or read book Ancient Texts and Languages of Ethnic Groups Along the Silk Road written by Johannes Reckel and published by Universitätsverlag Göttingen. This book was released on 2021 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Central Asia has been dominated by Mongolian and Turkic speaking nations for the past 1300 years. Uyghurs and Uzbeks were the most important traders on the Central Asian Silk Roads. Earlier Sogdians and Tokharians and other ethnic groups speaking Indo-Germanic (Indo-Iranian) languages were active on these ancient trade routes. In the 18th and 19th century a Tungus language, Manchu, became important for Sinkiang, Mongolia and the whole of China. Expansion policy of different realms, comprehensive commercial activities and the spread of religious ideas facilitated the exchange of (cultural) knowledge along the Silk Road. Texts and scripts tell us not only about the different groups that were in contact, but also reflect details of diplomatic, religious, and economic ambitions and the languages that were used for these different forms of communication. Several examples of contact induced language change or specific linguistic influence as a result of contacts along the Silk Road invite us to understand more about the frequency, intensity and intention of contacts that took place in very different regions connected by the Silk Road.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As America stumbled toward its worst domestic crisis-civil war-political tradition took on the garb of national issues. This is the story of that volatile century, and the people-locally well-known, or those forgotten-who made it happen. This charming study of an Ohio county seat in the nineteenth century might well be described as a microcosm of the American experience. The author...[gives] a clear exposition of how an Ohio town responded to the sectional controversy that led to civil war, [and] the lingering bitterness that plagued Mount Vernon in the aftermath of the war...an excellent example of how a professional historian can reclaim local history from the sentimentality of local antiquarians. -William L. Fisk, Ph.D., Muskingum College Professor Emeritus ...detailed and fascinating....[the] text enables me to more accurately interpret Mount Vernon history, and appreciate the rich and diverse background of our community. -Dr. E. LeBron Fairbanks, President, Mount Vernon Nazarene University Politics & Peril paints a wonderful picture of the big names of the area and the influence they had on local, state and national politics...[and] sheds light onto the influential people of the 1800s that are now immortalized and forever remembered in street names and buildings. -Fred Main, City Editor, Mount Vernon News Master oral presenter of history Lorle Porter has made one thing after another interesting and suspenseful...her treatment of the Peace Democrats during the Civil War...does not hide their racism...but makes clear and vivid their abhorrence of the wholesale killing in warfare of people of both sides. -Tony Stoneburner, Ph.D., Denison University Professor Emeritus

Those written almost one hundred years ago might already be out of date, as regards many significant features of the city's growth and development. But Mr. Robert Shackleton, after an extended experience in describing such cities as New York, Philadelphia, Boston and Chicago, has at last written a comprehensive "Book of Washington"—not a guide or handbook merely, but an intelligent summary and review of the past and present attractions of the city.

Book Morphologically Derived Adjectives in Spanish

Download or read book Morphologically Derived Adjectives in Spanish written by Antonio Fábregas and published by John Benjamins Publishing Company. This book was released on 2020-11-15 with total page 391 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first book that presents a complete empirical description and theoretical analysis of all major classes of derived adjectives in Spanish, both deverbal and denominal. The reader will find here both a detailed empirical description of the syntactic, morphological and semantic properties of derived adjectives in contemporary Spanish and a cohesive Neo-Constructionist analysis of the syntactic and semantic tools that contemporary Spanish has available to build adjectives from other grammatical categories within a Nanosyntactic-oriented framework. In doing so, this book sheds light on the nature of adjectives as a grammatical category and argues that adjectives are syntactically built by recycling functional heads belonging to other categories. The book will be useful both to researchers in Spanish linguistics or theoretical morphology and to advanced students of Spanish interested in the main ways of building new adjectives through suffixation in this language.
