Download or read book Early Livermore written by and published by Arcadia Publishing. This book was released on 2006 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Englishman Robert Livermore jumped ship in Southern California in 1822, yet just 15 years later became the respected owner of the 40,000-acre Las Positas land grant. Here he built his new Californio wife an adobe house in 1839. The wealth that flowed into California during the gold rush allowed Livermore to import a two-story house around the Horn, but entrepreneurs and squatters flowed in as well. Nathaniel Patterson opened the first hotel in the old Livermore adobe, frequented by miners on their way from the South Bay to the Sierra gold mines. Laddsville, a village built where the roads to Stockton and Dublin met, was also a going concern until the Central Pacific pushed over the Altamont Pass. On this line grew the town founded by William Mendenhall in 1869, named for pioneer Livermore, who had died more than a decade earlier. Soon Livermore became the valley's commercial center for hay, wheat, barley, wine grapes, and ranching.

Download or read book Cad written by Rick Marin and published by . This book was released on 2004-05 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: You know him. He's the funny, sweet guy with the great eyes who asks you a million questions and seems mesmerized by every reply. He takes you on the greatest, longest date of your life. He swears he loves cats and cuddling. And his apartment is so clean. He just might be the One. Then he doesn't call, doesn't write. He sees you coming down the street and he hides behind a tree. He's a cad. And this is his story. After all the girl's guides to sex in the city, here - at last - is the view from the other side of the bed. In Cad: Confessions of a Toxic Bachelor, Rick Marin offers himself up for an in-depth look at man's superficial nature. In this rollicking, frequently insensitive and ultimately poignant memoir, Marin proves a master of the light touch even in his darkest hours. Part Hugh Hefner, part Hugh Grant, his tale is a rake's progress (in spite of himself) from incorrigible cad to reconstructed romantic. It is one man's story but many men will read it as their own. And for any woman who has ever wondered What was he thinking? This is what he was thinking. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: NCTM's Process Standards were designed to support teaching that helps children develop independent, effective mathematical thinking. The books in the Heinemann Math Process Standards Series give every elementary teacher the opportunity to explore each one of the standards in depth. And with language and examples that don't require prior math training to understand, the series offers friendly, reassuring advice to any teacher preparing to embrace the Process Standards. In Introduction to Representation, Bonnie Ennis and Kimberly Witeck share ways to help students use algorithms, graphs, manipulatives, diagrams, and other written and pictorial forms to express math ideas. They offer an array of entry points for understanding, planning, and teaching, including strategies that help students internalize manipulatives and other models of mathematical thinking so that they can begin documenting their mathematical processes. Full of activities that are modifiable for immediate use with students of all levels and written by veteran teachers for teachers of every level of experience, Introduction to Representation highlights the importance of encouraging children to demonstrate their mathematical thinking techniques through a variety of mathematical means, while also recommending ways to implement representation-based teaching without rewriting your curriculum. Best of all, like all the titles in the Math Process Standards Series, Introduction to Representation comes with two powerful tools to help you get started and plan well: a CD-ROM with activities customizable to match your lessons and a correlation guide that helps you match mathematical content with the processes it utilizes. If you need to better understand how students represent their thinking. Or if you're simply looking for new ways to work the representation standard into your curriculum, read, dog-ear, and teach with Introduction to Representation. And if you'd like to learn about any of NCTM's process standards, or if you're looking for new, classroom-tested ways to address them in your math teaching, look no further than Heinemann's Math Process Standards Series. You'll find them explained in the most understandable and practical way: from one teacher to another.
