Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lakshmana was Dasharatha and Sumitra’a son, Rama’s brother and an incarnation of Adisesha, the divine serpent. He mastered the Vedas and other subjects in quick time. He accompanied Rama when sage Vishwamitra wanted help in the conduct of a yajna which was being troubled by demons. After standing guard with Rama at the yajna and helping him kill several demons, he expressed no desire to return home. After Rama won Sita’s hand, Lakshmana got married to Urmila. When he came to know Kaikeyi’s evil demand, he was furious and was prepared to eliminate all obstacles, even if it meant killing his father. He gave up everything in order to be with Rama and Sita during their stay in the forest. He protected both of them as can be seen by the way he chopped off Shoorpanakha’s nose and ears when the latter tried to attack Sita. After Sita’s abduction, it was Lakshmana who instilled confidence in Rama whenever he lost it. He was highly duty conscious and expected others to be like him –Sugreeva got crowned as king of Lanka and promised to help Rama in searching for Sita but forgot about it. Lakshmana was furious and had to be calmed down by Rama. His support to Rama during the battle at Lanka was invaluable. After Rama was crowned, he desired Lakshmana to be the yuvaraja but he insisted that the honour must go to Bharatha. He was heartbroken when Rama asked him to leave Sita at Valmiki’s hermitage because some people had doubted her fidelity. Caught between his duty to his brother and Durvasa, he chose to sacrifice himself. Thus he faced banishment and later entered swarga with his body and soul. It was no wonder that Sage Valmiki expressed that Lakshmana was the outer breath of Sri Rama. Our other books here can be searched using #BharathaSamskruthiPrakashana

Download or read book Basic Concrete Technology written by Dr. M. Ponni and published by AG PUBLISHING HOUSE (AGPH Books). This book was released on 2023-02-22 with total page 213 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lime mortars were employed between 12,000 and 6000 BCE in Crete, Cyprus, Greece, and Middle East, demonstrating that the elements that make concrete a universal construction material are so prominent that it has been utilized, although in more basic sorts and methods than at today, for thousands of years. One of them is the ease with which it can be placed and shaped to fit practically any mold or form, since it is plastic and can be manipulated to take on any desired form. Its excellent resilience to fire and the elements is another clear benefit. Except for cement and additives, most of the components may be found cheaply and conveniently close to the site of construction. It has a high compressive strength, similar with that of natural-stones, and is therefore well suited for use in compression-heavy elements like columns and arches. Nonetheless, its low tensile strength compared to its high compressive strength makes it a somewhat fragile material, much as it is in natural stones. Because of this, it can't be used cost-effectively as the only material in structural components that are either completely or partially subject to tension (like tie-rods) The book begins with a brief introduction to concrete and cement before moving on to detail the raw materials used in its production, including aggregates, binders, iv admixtures, and water. It then moves on to discuss the properties of fresh concrete, such as its workability and the appropriate measurement techniques, before moving on to discuss the properties of hardened concrete, such as its strength, durability, stress-strain relation, and dimensional stability.

Wanting to be famous as a daani, Vajashravas performed a great yajna in which he planned to give away many cows in daana. Unfortunately, all the cows were completely useless and emaciated. Noticing that anything given in daana must be of use to the receiver, Nachiketa was upset and asked his father to whom he planned to give his son away in daana. In anger, the father said that he would gift him to Yama. Taking his father’s words as gospel, Nachiketa left for Yama’s abode immediately, something that was unheard of. The father repented his anger and felt helpless. Finding that Lord Yama wasn’t there, he waited for him outside for three days without eating or drinking water. After Yama returned, he and his wife felt guilty for a brahmachari guest had been left unattended. In lieu of it, Yama asked the boy to ask for three boons. Nachiketa asked him to ensure that his father would not worry about him and would welcome him when he returned home. Next, Yama taught him Agnividya , which was the second boon. As the third boon, Nachiketa wanted to know about the Ultimate Truth – whether man exists after death. Yama was dumbfounded because this was a secret even the Devas were not aware of. How could a young boy be let into it? Yama tried to attract him with other gifts but the boy was very firm. Finally, Yama explained to him what Atma Vidya meant and was pleased to give him jnana deeksha. Nachiketa acquired Brahmavidya from the Lord of Death and then returned to his father who became his son’s disciple. This is the story of Nachiketa as it appears in the Kathopanishad. He ruled for 60,000 years, was a courageous kshatriya and had mastered the Vedas and other branches of knowledge. His rule had a spiritual base and he was advised by sage Vashista and sage Vamadeva. As he had no children, he performed two yajnas after which his three queens gave birth to Rama, Lakshmana, Bharatha and Shatrughna. Reminding him of the two boons that were due to her from the king, Kaikeyi demanded that her son be made the king of Ayodhya against the popular choice of Rama. Later, when Viswamitra asked him to send Rama to help him in the conduct of a yajna, he was hesitant and even scared because it involved his young son. He was in constant turmoil after he was forced to keep his word to Kaikeyi. He could not tolerate life after the departure of Rama, Lakshmana and Sita to the forest and hence passed away. When Rama killed the wicked Ravana, Dasharatha appeared in the sky and blessed Rama, Lakshmana and Sita. He was a rajarshi who was endowed with good qualities. However, he suffered because of his small weakness, that is, sometimes doing things without thinking. Our other books here can be searched using #BharathaSamskruthiPrakashana

Book Three Thousand Stitches

Download or read book Three Thousand Stitches written by Sudha Murty and published by Penguin Random House India Private Limited. This book was released on 2017-07-14 with total page 149 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: So often, it's the simplest acts of courage that touch the lives of others. Sudha Murty-through the exceptional work of the Infosys Foundation as well as through her own youth, family life and travels-encounters many such stories . . . and she tells them here in her characteristically clear-eyed, warm-hearted way. She talks candidly about the meaningful impact of her work in the devadasi community, her trials and tribulations as the only female student in her engineering college and the unexpected and inspiring consequences of her father's kindness. From the quiet joy of discovering the reach of Indian cinema and the origins of Indian vegetables to the shallowness of judging others based on appearances, these are everyday struggles and victories, large and small. Unmasking both the beauty and ugliness of human nature, each of the real-life stories in this collection is reflective of a life lived with grace.
