Book Sample Scattering Corrections in Neutron Beam Experiments

Download or read book Sample Scattering Corrections in Neutron Beam Experiments written by and published by . This book was released on 1960 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Calculations were made of the effects of single and multiple neutron scattering in a disk of sample material. These effects increase the effective thickness of the sample relative to the geometric thickness in the direction of the incident neutrons and must be considered in a large class of neutron measurements, e.g., cross section measurements in which the total number of reactions in a sample is measured. The integrals, taking account of exponential attenuation, were evaluated for neutron beams incident along the axis of the disk. Results are given analytically and graphically. (auth).

Book Experimental Neutron Scattering

Download or read book Experimental Neutron Scattering written by B. T. M. Willis and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2017-03-23 with total page 325 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first systematic experiments in neutron scattering were carried out in the late 1940s using fission reactors built for the nuclear power programme. Crystallographers were amongst the first to exploit the new technique, but they were soon followed by condensed matter physicists and chemists. Engineers and biologists are the most recent recruits to the club of neutron users. The aim of the book is to provide a broad survey of the experimental activities of all these users. There are many specialist monographs describing particular examples of the application of neutron scattering: fifteen of such monographs have been published already in the Oxford University Press series edited by S. Lovesey and E. Mitchell. However this book will appeal to newcomers to the field of neutron scattering, who may be intimidated by the bewildering array of instruments at central facilities (such as the Institut Laue Langevin in France, the ISIS Laboratory in the UK, or the PSI Laboratory in Switzerland), and who may be uncertain as to which instrument to use.

Book A Practical Guide to Quasi elastic Neutron Scattering

Download or read book A Practical Guide to Quasi elastic Neutron Scattering written by Mark T F Telling and published by Royal Society of Chemistry. This book was released on 2020-07-07 with total page 169 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The technique of Quasi-Elastic Neutron Scattering (QENS) is a powerful experimental tool for extracting temporal and spatial information at the nanoscale from both soft and hard condensed matter systems. However, while seemingly simple, the method is beset with sensitivities that, if ill considered, can hinder data interpretation and possibly publication. By highlighting key theoretical and data evaluation aspects of the technique, this specialised ‘primer style’ training resource encourages research success by guiding new researchers through a typical QENS experiment; from planning and sample preparation considerations to data reduction and subsequent analysis. Research examples are referenced throughout to illustrate the concepts addressed, with the book being written in such a way that it remains accessible to chemists, biologists, physicists, and materials scientists.

Book Experimental neutron resonance spectroscopy

Download or read book Experimental neutron resonance spectroscopy written by J Harvey and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 549 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Experimental Neutron Resonance Spectroscopy deals with the experimental technique of neutron resonance spectroscopy. Pulsed accelerator time-of-flight spectrometers and gamma rays from neutron capture in resonances are discussed. Total neutron cross section measurements are presented, along with neutron scattering and capture cross-section measurements and measurements on fissile nuclides. This book is comprised of five chapters and begins with an introduction to pulsed accelerator time-of-flight spectrometers with moderated continued neutron spectra, together with the pulsed Van De Graaff. Experimental techniques used for neutron cross section measurements, including detectors and data acquisition equipment, are then outlined. Scattering measurements and capture measurements as well as gamma-ray spectra from the capture of neutrons in resonances are considered. The final chapter focuses on the detailed and varied experiments that have been performed on the complicated fission process, together with the parameters of the resonances of the fissile nuclides. This monograph will be a useful resource for spectroscopists and physicists.
