Book The History of Our Family de la Place de Saint Omer

Download or read book The History of Our Family de la Place de Saint Omer written by Michel de la Place and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 175 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The de la Place family appears to have originated in northern France in the region known as the Pas de Calais. Early members of the family lived in northern France, Belgium and Holland. Research has shown that the original surname was de la Place de Saint Omer, which was shortened to de la Place as well as Somer. As early as 1632 members of the family were residing in Brugge, Belgium. They appear to have lived there for generations. Amand Delplace (d. 1890) married Rosalie Beernaert (1819-1894) and they became the parents of Amédée who moved to Liège, Belgium. Amédée was the father of Ghislain de la Place (1896-1930) who was born in Jemappes-sur-Meuse, Belgium. He was the father of Michel de la Place (1926- ) who was born in Peking, China where the family was residing on business. The family later returned to Belgium. In 1948 Michel married Joyce Clayton and they became the parents of three children. In 1954 they immigrated to Canada. Descendants live in Canada.

Book The Foreign Burial of American War Dead

Download or read book The Foreign Burial of American War Dead written by Chris Dickon and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2011-09-29 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Normandy, Flanders Field and other overseas cemeteries of the American Battle Monument Commission (ABMC) are well known. However, lesser-known burial sites of American war dead exist all over the world—in Australia and across the Pacific Rim, in Canada and Mexico, Libya and Spain, most of Europe and as far north as the Russian Arctic. This is the history of American soldiers buried abroad since the American Revolution. It traces the evolution of American attitudes and practices about war dead and provides the names and locations of those still buried abroad in non–ABMC locations.

Book The North Irish Horse in the Great War

Download or read book The North Irish Horse in the Great War written by Phillip Tardif and published by Pen and Sword. This book was released on 2015-06-30 with total page 385 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sent to France in August 1914, the North Irish Horse (NIH) was the first British reservist regiment to see action Ð at Le Cateau Ð before fighting as rearguard on the long retreat to the outskirts of Paris. Over the next four years they fought with distinction, playing a role in many of the major battles, including Ypres, Somme, Passchendaele and Cambrai, and were heavily involved in the final Advance to Victory.?How fitting that this, the first history of this famous cavalry Regiment's superb record in The Great War, should be published to coincide with the centenary of the conflict. It not only describes the Regiment's actions by squadron but concentrates on the officers and men; their backgrounds, motivation and courageous deeds and sacrifices. The author places the Regiment's achievement in the context of the overall war and reflects on the effect that unfolding political events in Ireland had on the Regiment and its members.?The North Irish Horse in the Great War draws on a wealth of primary source material, much unpublished including war diaries, personal accounts, letters and memoirs. In addition to compiling this long overdue account of the NIH, the author succeeds in painting a valuable picture of The Great War at the fighting end.
