Topics include: Øsafety concepts, Ørole of regulation and standards, Øload modeling, Øreliability analysis, Øreliability-based design, Ødurability in structural safety assessment, Øsoils and foundations, Øassessment of existing structures, Øquality management of structural design, Øquality management in construction, and Øhuman error. Practicing structural engineers and students in the field of structural engineering will find this report useful.

Book Construction Inspection Handbook

Download or read book Construction Inspection Handbook written by James J. O'Brien and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-04-17 with total page 772 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In addition to quality control (QC), this book introduces the concept of quality assurance (QA). Quality assurance has a number of definitions, but in general is the combination of the quality assurance plan with procedures through which the quality control inspector can inspect in the field. The book is arranged in categories so that is can be used in handbook fashion; each section stands independent of the others. The arrangement of the major portion of the book is organized in the same format as we usually find in building construction specification, the Construction Specifications Institute (CSI) format.

Book Introduction to Safety and Reliability of Structures

Download or read book Introduction to Safety and Reliability of Structures written by Jörg Schneider and published by IABSE. This book was released on 2006 with total page 115 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Structural engineers devote all their effort to meeting society¿s expectations efficiently. Engineers and scientists work together to develop solutions to structural problems. Given that nothing is absolutely and eternally safe, the goal is to attain an acceptably small probability of failure for a structure. Reliability analysis is part of the science and practice of engineering today, not only with respect to the safety of structures, but also for questions of serviceability and other requirements of technical systems that might be impacted by some probability. The present volume takes a rather broad approach to the safety of structures and related topics. It treats the underlying concepts of risk and safety and introduces the reader to the main concepts and strategies for dealing with hazards. A chapter is devoted to the processing of data into information that is relevant for applying reliability theory. The two main chapters deal with the modelling of structures and with methods of reliability analysis. Another chapter focuses on problems related to establishing target reliabilities, assessing existing structures, and on effective strategies against human error. The Appendix supports the application of the methods proposed and refers readers to a number of related computer programs.

Book Structural Reliability Analysis and Prediction

Download or read book Structural Reliability Analysis and Prediction written by Robert E. Melchers and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2018-04-02 with total page 530 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Structural Reliability Analysis and Prediction, Third Edition is a textbook which addresses the important issue of predicting the safety of structures at the design stage and also the safety of existing, perhaps deteriorating structures. Attention is focused on the development and definition of limit states such as serviceability and ultimate strength, the definition of failure and the various models which might be used to describe strength and loading. This book emphasises concepts and applications, built up from basic principles and avoids undue mathematical rigour. It presents an accessible and unified account of the theory and techniques for the analysis of the reliability of engineering structures using probability theory. This new edition has been updated to cover new developments and applications and a new chapter is included which covers structural optimization in the context of reliability analysis. New examples and end of chapter problems are also now included.

Book Construction Quality Management

Download or read book Construction Quality Management written by S.L. Tang and published by Hong Kong University Press. This book was released on 2005-09-01 with total page 209 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines the various quality management systems applied to the construction industry in Hong Kong and other parts of the world. Hong Kong's experience is particularly important because it plays a leading role in construction quality management globally. The text traces the change from quality control (QC) practice in the 1970s and 1980s, to the quality assurance (QA) concept in the 1990s, and finally to the emerging total quality management (TQM) philosophy. All the tools and techniques used in relation to construction quality management are discussed in detail in the 12 chapters.
