Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Winner of a third-place award for spirituality books from the Catholic Media Association. Appearing to her in a series of visions in 1673, Jesus promised St. Margaret Mary Alacoque that those who “expose and honor his most Sacred Heart” will find peace in the home, consolation in sorrow, and a source of refuge in times of trouble. In Secrets of the Sacred Heart, Emily Jaminet—executive director of the Sacred Heart Enthronement Network—weaves personal testimony, teachings, and reflection questions while exploring and applying each of Christ’s promises. Jaminet will guide you through a special enthronement ceremony to dedicate your home and inspire you to a lifelong devotion to the Sacred Heart. Whether you have already consecrated your home or are newly embarking on the journey of discovering the graces of this ancient practice, you will find a personal encounter with Jesus, who promises: peace in your home, safe refuge in life and death, blessings on your undertakings, an infinite source of mercy, and a restored and enlivened faith for those who surrender themselves wholly to Christ. Book The Secret Revelation of John

Download or read book The Secret Revelation of John written by Karen L. King and published by Harvard University Press. This book was released on 2009-02-28 with total page 428 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lost in antiquity, rediscovered in 1896, and only recently accessible for study, The Secret Revelation of John offers a firsthand look into the diversity of Christianity before the establishment of canon and creed. Karen L. King offers an illuminating reading of this ancient text--a narrative of the creation of the universe and humanity and a guide to justice and salvation, said to be Christ's revelation to his disciple John. Freeing the Revelation from the category of "Gnosticism" to which such accounts were relegated, King shows how the Biblical text could be read by early Christians in radical and revisionary ways. By placing the Revelation in its social and intellectual milieu, she revises our understanding of early Christianity and, more generally, religious thought in the ancient Mediterranean world. Her work helps the modern reader through many intriguing--but confusing--ideas in the text: for example, that the creator god of Genesis, a self-described jealous and exclusive god, is not the true Deity but a kind of fallen angel; or, in an overt critique of patriarchy unique in ancient literature, the declaration that the subordination of woman to man was an ignorant act in direct violation of the "holy height." In King's analysis, the Revelation becomes not strange but a comprehensible religious vision--and a window on the religious culture of the Roman Empire. A translation of the complete Secret Revelation of John is included.

Book Sacred Decisions

Download or read book Sacred Decisions written by Marcia Patton and published by . This book was released on 2021 with total page 112 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers congregational leaders and others the opportunity to explore and implement consensus as a decision-making model. Authors Marcia J. Patton and Nora J. Percival clearly state what consensus is and what it is not. They provide a "how-to" resource for persons who want to change how their groups make decisions. Although voting, the "holy way," the "majority rule," and Robert's Rules of Order are deeply entrenched in this country, a consensus is another way to think through, discuss, feel, and arrive at a decision. Patton and Percival provide real-life examples, planning and meeting ideas, and essential steps to develop a consensus decision-making model.

Book Yhwh and the Sacred Secret

Download or read book Yhwh and the Sacred Secret written by Monte Perepelkin and published by Archway Publishing. This book was released on 2020-01-23 with total page 126 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is a Creator! This is the simple truth that is revealed within YHWH and the Sacred Secret. Through careful application of science and logic, as well as a comprehensive evaluation of the Bible, the truth about our Creator and what He has planned for the future of humanity is presented clearly and without religious bias. More than fifty different Bible versions are used to reveal how virtually every translation in print today delivers the same message about humankind's future, one that nearly every religion on the planet has failed to teach. From Genesis to Revelation, YHWH and the Sacred Secret offers the reader a modern interpretation of humankind's instructional manual: The Bible. Whatever your background—Christian, atheist, creationist or evolutionist—this book is a must-read for everyone. All profits that go to the author from the sale of this publication will be donated to helping the homeless.

Book The Sacred and the Sinister

Download or read book The Sacred and the Sinister written by David J. Collins, S. J. and published by Penn State Press. This book was released on 2019-05-17 with total page 301 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Inspired by the work of eminent scholar Richard Kieckhefer, The Sacred and the Sinister explores the ambiguities that made (and make) medieval religion and magic so difficult to differentiate. The essays in this collection investigate how the holy and unholy were distinguished in medieval Europe, where their characteristics diverged, and the implications of that deviation. In the Middle Ages, the natural world was understood as divinely created and infused with mysterious power. This world was accessible to human knowledge and susceptible to human manipulation through three modes of engagement: religion, magic, and science. How these ways of understanding developed in light of modern notions of rationality is an important element of ongoing scholarly conversation. As Kieckhefer has emphasized, ambiguity and ambivalence characterize medieval understandings of the divine and demonic powers at work in the world. The ten chapters in this volume focus on four main aspects of this assertion: the cult of the saints, contested devotional relationships and practices, unsettled judgments between magic and religion, and inconclusive distinctions between magic and science. Freshly insightful, this study of ambiguity between magic and religion will be of special interest to scholars in the fields of medieval studies, religious studies, European history, and the history of science. In addition to the editor, the contributors to this volume are Michael D. Bailey, Kristi Woodward Bain, Maeve B. Callan, Elizabeth Casteen, Claire Fanger, Sean L. Field, Anne M. Koenig, Katelyn Mesler, and Sophie Page.

  • Pages : 363 pages

Download or read book Sacred Wilderness written by Susan Power and published by MSU Press. This book was released on 2014-02-01 with total page 363 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Clan Mother story for the twenty-first century, Sacred Wilderness explores the lives of four women of different eras and backgrounds who come together to restore foundation to a mixed-up, mixed-blood woman—a woman who had been living the American dream, and found it a great maw of emptiness. These Clan Mothers may be wisdom-keepers, but they are anything but stern and aloof—they are women of joy and grief, risking their hearts and sometimes their lives for those they love. The novel swirls through time, from present-day Minnesota to the Mohawk territory of the 1620s, to the ancient biblical world, brought to life by an indigenous woman who would come to be known as the Virgin Mary. The Clan Mothers reveal secrets, the insights of prophecy, and stories that are by turns comic, so painful they can break your heart, and perhaps even powerful enough to save the world. In lyrical, lushly imagined prose, Sacred Wilderness is a novel of unprecedented necessity.
