Download or read book Ryanair the low fares airline written by Paulina Gugenheimer and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2006-05-06 with total page 18 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Seminar paper from the year 2003 in the subject Business economics - General, grade: 2,0, Lund University, language: English, abstract: The European airline industry has historically been dominated by national carriers like British Airways, Lufthansa and Air France, whose aggregate share of intra European routes was about 70 percent by the end of 1998. But from 1990 a rising share of the market started to migrate to the budget carriers because of the deregulation policy of the EU. This essay contains an analysis of the European airline industry as a part of the transportation industry at the beginning of 1999 with a special emphasis on the budget sector. In that sector, one of the most famous and successful budget carriers, Ryanair, will be contemplated with regard to its strategy and its strengths and weaknesses. Finally, a short summary will be done about what happened in the European airline industry between 1999 and 2003.

Book The Low cost Airline Ryanair

Download or read book The Low cost Airline Ryanair written by Stefanie Hoffmann and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2007-11 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Essay from the year 2006 in the subject Business economics - Marketing, Corporate Communication, CRM, Market Research, Social Media, grade: B+, Cardiff University (University), 29 entries in the bibliography, language: English, abstract: Just a few years ago Ryanair was a tiny, impoverished Irish airline trying unsuccessfully to compete with Aer Lingus using a handful of elderly turboprop planes. In 2003 its share price is so high the company is worth more than British Airways, and with the unlikely business model of selling seats for as little as 99 Pence for the privilege of flying to airports perhaps fifty miles outside the cities they purport to serve, Ryanair has become the most profitable airline in Europe. It is also an airline whose phenomenal success has never been too far from controversy, whether it is its militant lack of sympathy for its passengers when their flight is delayed or cancelled, its robust approach to industrial relations, or indeed the industrial language favoured by its charismatic and buccaneering chief executive, Michael O′Leary. (Creaton, 2005) The following questions will critically evaluate the Ryanair phenomenon and its future prospects with taking the European airline industry into consideration.

Book Ryanair SWOT Analysis of the Leading Low Fare Airline

Download or read book Ryanair SWOT Analysis of the Leading Low Fare Airline written by Irina Düsseldorf and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2016-12-29 with total page 23 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Seminar paper from the year 2016 in the subject Business economics - Business Management, Corporate Governance, grade: 2,7, , course: Strategic Management, language: English, abstract: Ryanair is Europe’s leading low cost airline and offers the lowest fares on the airline market. But the question is how the small Irish company can count 103,000,000 international passengers in the fiscal year 2015, only 30 years after having been established. Why does Ryanair have a high recognition value for its brand, despite doing the advertising in-house and distributing only by using online channels? What is more, Ryanair does not offer customer loyalty programs, they do not have free drinks or food on-board; they even do not need external cleansing power for their fleet. And why no other low cost airline, like Easyjet or Lufthansa’s subsidiary Germanwings, overtook Ryanair’s competitive advantage to set the prices on the market? Actually they tried, but it still not working. What is so unique about the Irish Airline and how successful they compete with the airlines until today, will be demonstrated further in this assignment using the SWOT analysis.

Book The Ryan Air Model Success and Impact on the European Aviation Market

Download or read book The Ryan Air Model Success and Impact on the European Aviation Market written by Frederik Boesch and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2007-06 with total page 69 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bachelor Thesis from the year 2005 in the subject Business economics - Miscellaneous, grade: 1,3, International University Bremen, 21 entries in the bibliography, language: English, abstract: During the past 15 years, there has been a considerable increase in the share of air travel within Europe that is carried out by low-cost airlines. These new airlines apply the most drastic cost saving measures in order to drive air fares down to a minimum. This paper will first explore the deregulation process of the European aviation market which was the precondition for the emergence of low-fare carriers in the early 1990s. It will then take a closer look at Ryanair, the current low-cost leader in Europe and describe its history, the elements of this distinct business model, its successes, and also some limitations. The last part of the paper will concentrate on the impact that low-fare airlines like Ryanair have on the aviation market. It will explore the changes on the market that can be expected in the long-run and will pay attention to the question if and how traditional full service carriers can respond to the increased competition.

Book Michael O Leary

Download or read book Michael O Leary written by Matt Cooper and published by Penguin UK. This book was released on 2018-09-27 with total page 464 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: September 2017. Ryanair cancels over 700,000 bookings and its powerful PR juggernaut comes shuddering to a halt. For once, the airline's aggressive and flamboyant CEO, Michael O'Leary, is contrite and apologetic. A month later Ryanair announces increased passenger traffic for October, year-on-year growth and increased profits. Its share price soars. For the moment, it appears, a fundamental shake-up of Europe's biggest airline is off the table. But questions remain about the causes of the debacle and O'Leary's role in it. Michael O'Leary lifts the veil on the wildly successful and wildly controversial Ryanair CEO. Based on extensive research - including with close associates of O'Leary - the book examines O'Leary's personality, beliefs and obsessions and describes how these have moulded the business he runs. Written by a multi-award-winning journalist and broadcaster, with a thirty-year career covering business and current affairs, it is a fascinating insight into the business behind the man, and the man behind the business.

In Ireland it has been a number-one bestseller (indeed, is still in the chart); here it is selling in significant quantities from airports and bookshops around the country. It remains the only book about the airline and its buccaneering chief executive, Michael O'Leary. With Ryanair continuing to expand, the battle for the low-cost airline market in Europe becoming ever more cutthroat, and O'Leary happy to do battle with everyone from airports (for their landing charges) to his own pilots (over pay and conditions) - and generate an endless stream of PR and news stories in the process - the B-format edition of Siobhan Creaton's book is fully updated to take account of all Ryanair's most recent history.

Book Low Cost Carriers Business Model Impacts of Its Expansion and Challenges

Download or read book Low Cost Carriers Business Model Impacts of Its Expansion and Challenges written by Veronika Minkova and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2011-10 with total page 89 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bachelor Thesis from the year 2009 in the subject Economics - Micro-economics, grade: 1,3, Furtwangen University; Villingen-Schwenningen, language: English, abstract: Across a wide range of industries traditional market leaders are threatened by low price competitors. These low price firms are steadily eroding the profit margins and market share of their more established rivals. A vivid example from aviation is the Low Cost Carriers. Beginning in the North America and spreading to Europe, the airline passenger market has witnessed a growing intensity in price-based competition. This intensified competition has been facilitated by policy deregulation initiatives until the emergence of the phenomenon Low Cost Airlines. European Low Cost Airlines have changed people's leisure and travel habits, opening up direct services between city pairs that were not available before. The present thesis aims at analysing the European Low Cost Carriers (LCCs) business model from the perspective of its rapid expansion on the air travel market. In conjunction with the liberalisation of commercial aviation the LCCs' impacts on the European community have been identified in line with the sustainable transport concept recognized as a common goal in the two European Commission's strategic documents: Lisbon Agenda and European Sustainable Development Strategy. The European low cost model is examined in terms; its business model and strategic positioning; the LCCs' positive and negative impacts after its rapid growth; the sector dynamics and its long term sustainability. This LCC multi-dimensional view imposes the main questions of the current work in search for broad analysis of the LCCs trend: "What are the essential characteristics of the LCCs business model?";" How it affects the EU community?"; and "What driving forces stand behind the LCCs model?". The thesis sets itself the following sub-objectives and attempts to answer their corresponding questions: - Overview of the European

Book Basic Strategy in Context

Download or read book Basic Strategy in Context written by Neil Thomson and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2010-06-01 with total page 423 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Basic Strategy in Context centres on real-world firms and managers by giving each chapter’s cases a higher weighting in importance and explanation than is normal. Given this emphasis on real-world as opposed to theoretical treatment the book enables the solving of practical business problems like those below. This emphasis on reality is cemented by the book’s treatment of diversity as being the norm highlighted through European business cases from different countries. Giving example answers and links from case to theory rams home further the expected usefulness of the book to students about to enter industry. Often theory and cases are treated as different and separated topics; we believe that our integrated didactic treatment is quite unique. Finally we use the basic theories of strategy and then show how these mainly simple concepts can be extended to solve tricky business problems anywhere in any industry. Here is a sample of specific practical problems to which this book can show solutions: Why are resources important and how are they leveraged? Using the case of a British failure (Railtrack) we show the fatal consequences of neglecting existing resources, and then in a completely different country and industry (Carlo Gavazzi Space in Italy) how resources can be utilised from outside the firm to achieve leverage. Given our emphasis on diversity we highlight successful change in a foreign and inflexible environment (Japan and Carlos Ghosn). But can change be planned? Sometimes events or luck sabotage the best intentions as shown in the Samsung case. The book differentiates itself from the competition in four ways: Cases form the highlight of the book. Taking European and some international cases as the starting point, the objective is to link themes or topics to a description of their effect on the firm. The linkage will occur at the relevant point in the case, not in a separate section or in another book. The author team has used several longitudinal cases spread over a 15-20 year period. The longitudinal cases are supported by some new, non-longitudinal cases selected from award winning cases associated with the LRP Journal and the Gate2Growth Academic Network. We feel such an emphasis on cases is a novel feature. The theory is explained using a range of modern didactic methods not usually found in competitive offerings. Examples include colour coded and highlighted links from the theory to the case, questions inside each theory section with model answers and unanswered questions to test the student’s grasp of the concepts. The book features a mixture of cases from short specific to academically challenging ones. Too often, superficial cases are placed at the end of chapters in strategy theory books. They are picked to emphasize the topics of the preceding chapters. The result is spoon-feeding, with little need or motivation to provoke individual thought or learning. The cases in this book are comprehensive, approximately 20 pages in length, with ample quantitative and qualitative data, thus forcing a modicum of effort from the student. Shorter cases are also included for ease of understanding and instructor flexibility. Another differentiating feature is the emphasis on diversity hence the use of European as opposed to US based cases.

Here we are going to have a look at the historical development. It is going to be described in detail how the deregulation and liberalization in Europe happened, and what changes have been put in place. The liberalization packages are going to be described in detail, and the outcomes of the liberalisation and deregulation are going to be stated. In chapter THREE, the LCC's are going to be introduced. Here we are going to have a quick introduction on what 'NO-Frill' means in the context of air travel. Further the development of LCC's in Europe is going to be shown. After that there is going to be a focus on the development of LCC's in Germany. Here the airlines which operate in Germany are going to be stated, and how they have developed over the years. Chapter FOUR is going to focus on the marketing strategy of LCC's in Europe, and how they operate. This chapter focuses on how they operate, how they choose their network and fleet. Also important is to find out what their target market is, and how they manage their sales and pricing strategy. This chapter gives a detailed explanation on how such airlines function. After having had a look at the LCC's strategy, Chapter FIVE focuses on the effects such airlines have on secondary airports. Also this chapter describes what regional effects such an airport has on its surrounding. In Chapter SIX the Airport Frankfurt Hahn stands in the centre of discussion. This chapter describes the several development stages of Frankfurt Hahn in terms of terminal or runway extension, and passenger development. Also this chapter analyses the catchment area of Frankfurt Hahn, and its infrastructure. After havi

Book An Analysis of Ryanair s Corporate Strategy

Download or read book An Analysis of Ryanair s Corporate Strategy written by Miriam Mennen and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2010-03-19 with total page 19 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Essay from the year 2005 in the subject Business economics - Offline Marketing and Online Marketing, grade: 72 % - A, University of Sunderland, course: Global Corporate Strategy, language: English, abstract: Ryanair was founded in 1985 as a family business that originally provided full service conventional scheduled airline services between Ireland and the UK. The airline started to compete within the confines of the existing industry by trying to steal customers from their rivals, especially the state monopoly carrier Air Lingus, outlined by Chan Kim and Renée Mauborgne (2004) as “Bloody or Red Ocean Strategy”. Ryanair seemed to follow a “me-too strategy”; according to Osborne, K. (2005), they “tried to be all things to all people”. Even they started restructuring; their strategy was not enough differentiated and their cost advantage was too low to be profitable. Ryanair then created a competitive advantage through the alignment of the three components of business systems; 1)Creating superior value for their customers (outside perspective) 2)Supplying their superior value-adding activities in an effective and efficient manner (which jointly form the “Value Chain”) 3)Possessing over the resource base required to perform the value-adding activities, (inside perspective) According to Porter (1987), “corporate strategy is what makes the corporate whole add up to more than the sum of its business unit parts.” It is seen to be concerned with the overall purpose and scope of the organisation and to meet the expectations of major stakeholders. All aspects of Ryanair’s value chain are important to the company and their shareholders as Ryanair’s decisions add value to both. The following report outlines the three perspectives of shaping Ryanair’s business system. The value creation dimension of Ryanair’s business model will be outlined, considering the theories of Porter and the more recent authors Kim and Mauborgne (2004). Further, the linkages in the airline’s value chain and their resource base will be analysed, considering Hamel and Prahalad’s (1990) core competency model (inside-out approach). In section 2, the future challenges of the airline are considered. Ryanair’s strengths and weaknesses will be analysed, internal value creating factors such as assets, skills or resources, to consider how the airline can create alignment to its opportunities and threats, external factors. An stronger “outside – in” approach for Ryanair’s future corporate strategy will be considered, applying Porter’s five forces model, placing the market, the competition, and the customer at the starting point of the strategy process.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Low Cost Carriers (LCCs) have become an integral part of today's air transport and tourism industries. Originating in the United States, the low-cost concept has subsequently been adopted by airlines on all continents. LCCs in Europe and North America, and to some extent in Asia, have already been well covered by academic literature. However, scientific publications on the topic of LCCs in Africa, Latin America, the Middle East, Australia and New Zealand are scarce. This volume provides the first comprehensive overview of developments, the legal framework and the current situation of the low-cost carrier phenomenon across the globe. It contains a dozen chapters, each dedicated to a region, all written by highly experienced and renowned experts from around the world. The Low Cost Carrier Worldwide is written primarily for upper-level undergraduate and postgraduate students, as well as researchers and practitioners within the fields of aviation, transport and tourism.
