Book A Report of Archaeological Testing at Site 3CT263 Within the Proposed Edmondson Wastewater Pond Crittendon County Arkansas

Download or read book A Report of Archaeological Testing at Site 3CT263 Within the Proposed Edmondson Wastewater Pond Crittendon County Arkansas written by and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 94 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report documents archaeological site testing of a small historic site (3CT263) located within the direct impact area of the proposed Edmondson Sewage Disposal Lagoon near the town of Edmondson, Crittenden County, Arkansas. The site consists of a low density surface scatter of historical artifacts at the western edge of the proposed Edmondson Sewage Disposal Lagoon. Consultation of the Arkansas Archaeological Survey State site files, Crittenden County Library Arkansas History Room, Crittenden County Courthouse Tax Assessment Records, and C.H. Nash Museum site files show that no previously recorded sites were located on the project tract. A total controlled surface collection and subsurface testing recovered 25 artifacts. Ceramic and glass artifacts recovered from the site indicate a late nineteenth to early twentieth century affiliation. The number of kitchen related artifacts and the lack of architectural artifacts suggest the site represents a historical dump area. Testing did not recover significant archaeological deposits. Given the lack of potentially significant cultural resources at the site, no further work is recommended.

Book Archaeological Research Design and Identification and Testign Strategies for Proposed Federal Courthouse Site H156 Block Sacramento California

Download or read book Archaeological Research Design and Identification and Testign Strategies for Proposed Federal Courthouse Site H156 Block Sacramento California written by Mary Praetzellis and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Focused historical and archaeological research has been undertaken to predict the types and locations of historical and prehistoric archaeological resources that may survive on the proposed new Federal courthouse site on the H156 Block in Sacramento, CA. The H156 Block was found to have high sensitivity for historic archaeological sites, as it was the 1850s site of Sacramento's Chinese settlement that burned to the ground twice. This Block has low sensitivity for prehistoric sites being within and bordering a slough. Significant archaeological resources, potentially eligible to the National Register of Historic Places (HRHP) under criterion [d], are predicted to have survived on many parcels on the H156 Block. A research design and identification and testing strategy, developed to satisfy the guidelines pursuant to Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act, are presented to guide archaeological investigation within the H156 Block.

Book Nondestructive Testing for Archaeology and Cultural Heritage

Download or read book Nondestructive Testing for Archaeology and Cultural Heritage written by Giovanni Leucci and published by . This book was released on 2019 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This textbook provides a general introduction to the most important nondestructive testing (NDT) exploration methods for cultural heritage sites. It highlights the application of NDT exploration methods to archaeology and monumental property. The ability to gauge the extent of an archaeological deposit or the state of preservation of artefacts without resorting to destructive actions is extremely useful in identifying unknown or presumed artefacts, and can help to understand and approach a given site in a targeted manner, both for excavation and restoration operations. This book describes the main physical principles, campaign procedures, and processing and interpretation techniques of NDT, while also introducing a new technique and algorithm for data acquisition and processing. A large section of the book is devoted to actual site applications, and focuses on significant historical-archaeological sites in Italy and Turkey.

Book excerpt: Harpers Ferry was one of America's earliest and most significant industrial communities - serving as an excellent example of the changing patterns of human relations that led to dramatic progress in work life and in domestic relations in modern times. In this well-illustrated book, Paul A. Shackel investigates the historical archaeology of Harpers Ferry, revealing the culture change and influence of new technology on workers and their families. He focuses on the contributions of laborers, craftsmen, and other subordinate groups to industrial progress, and examines ethnic and interracial development in an economy that was transformed from craft-based to industrial.
