Book excerpt: From Sputnik to Gorbachev: an intricately detailed graphic exploration of Russian history that only you can complete This coloring book for all ages marks the first publication of the graphic works of Russian artist Amanita. His fantastical images form a unique world: they are like modern variations of illustrated manuscripts, packed full with elements of Soviet and post-Soviet cultures. The book also works as an introduction to the Russian alphabet. Every drawing depicts a word beginning with each letter from the Cyrillic alphabet, also shown in English, giving a light-hearted guide as to how the letters look and sound. The subjects of Amanita's illustrations are wide-ranging: from political leaders (Lenin, Gorbachev) to inanimate objects (Tupolev aircraft, Sputnik, Tsars, cosmonauts) and Constructivism, these classic Soviet themes are interwoven from one page to the next, all rendered in an abundance of detail. Amanita's amazing and skillful images define a previously unimagined graphic landscape that takes the humble coloring book into a new dimension. Russian Alphabet Colouring Book is the perfect gift book. Alexander Erashov was born in Ermak, Kazakhstan, in 1972. The pseudonym Amanita (a red-and-white spotted mushroom) is a reference to the black-white-red palette of his artworks.

Download or read book Soviet and Russian Ekranoplans written by Sergey Komissarov and published by . This book was released on 2020 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the most unusual strands in aviation history has been the development of wing-in-ground effect (WIG) vehicles, or as they are more commonly known by their Russian name, Ekranploans. Beginning with a brief outline of the concept from the theory to viable technical solutions, this new, expanded edition of Soviet and Russian Ekranploans gives a historical survey of the development of WIG research and construction in Russia. A large part of the book focuses on a type-by-type description of specific designs of ekranoplans developed in the Soviet Union and Russia in the course of half a century. Special emphasis is given to the activities of Rostislav Alekseyev, who has played an enormous role in the development of this new technology. Ekranoplans developed by several other major design bureaus, notably those led by Sukhoi, Bartini and Beriyev, are also considered. Economic and political transformations following the break-up of the Soviet Union led to the emergence of privately-owned design bureaus and firms that are now pursuing the development of WIG aircraft in Russia, given the lack of interest on the part of the military and the state in this branch of transport technology. This new edition has been fully updated to include unpublished photos and diagrams and examples of similar technology being developed in countries outside of Russian, including the USA, Germany and China. This is a welcome update to a book regarded as the definitive work on these unusual and exciting aircraft.

Book excerpt: This book surveys all the Soviet/Russian aircraft that either remained “paper projects” (the work progressed no further than the design documents or even merely a design proposal) or were abandoned at the prototype construction stage. Over many years, the authors have unearthed a mass of unpublished material on these aircraft projects including the Isayev/Shevchenko bi-monoplane fighters with retractable lower wings developed in the 1930s, early Soviet jet fighter projects of the Second World War period, and the twin-boom fighters and attack aircraft developed by Semyon M. Alekseyev in the late 1940s. Wherever possible, images of the aircraft are shown, including pictures of models, and line and cutaway drawings from the project documents, giving the readers the maximum available information on Soviet aircraft projects developed over a large time scale. The book is richly illustrated with numerous photos, drawings, and diagrams, as well as color side views of the unbuilt aircraft, which will be of interest not only to the numerous Soviet/Russian aviation enthusiasts but also to scale modelers.
Download or read book Russia s Warplanes written by Piotr Butowski and published by . This book was released on 2016-12-31 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Following the success of the first offering in the series, Harpia Publishing presents the second volume of Russia's Warplanes, completing what has become a standard reference work on the subject. Once again researched and written by the acknowledged expert in the field, the book draws upon the author's unrivaled connections within the Russian aerospace industry to conclude this comprehensive directory of the country's latest military aviation hardware. The result forms an essential companion to Volume 1, which detailed tactical combat aircraft, attack and transport helicopters, reconnaissance and surveillance aircraft, and special mission aircraft including airborne command posts and relay aircraft. Between them, the two works present in full detail the fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters that equip the various Russian air arms, as well as those developed for and operated by foreign states in the post-Soviet era. Alongside technical descriptions for each military aircraft - and every significant sub-variant - currently available from Russia's aerospace industry, or otherwise in large-scale service, Piotr Butowski provides historical background and accurate data relating to production and operators around the world. Full coverage is extended to upgrades, as well as the new avionics and advanced weapons that these introduce. The second volume in the series is dedicated to long-range bombers - including the Tu-95MS and Tu-160 that recently made their combat debuts over Syria - maritime patrol and antisubmarine warfare aircraft, strategic transport and tanker aircraft, theater transports, and trainers. The work provides authoritative accounts of Russia's current and future strategic bomber programs, as well as other fascinating types including the world's largest military transport, the An-124, and the new-generation Yak-130 advanced trainer and light attack aircraft. In common with previous Harpia titles, the book contains a wealth of high-quality photographs, many of which have never previously been published.
