Book Russia s State Budget in January November 2014

Download or read book Russia s State Budget in January November 2014 written by Tatiana Tischenko and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 4 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: According to data released by the RF Federal Treasury, Russia's federal budget revenue over the period of January-November 2014 increased by 0.5 p.p. of GDP on the same period of 2013 due to growth, by 0.5 p.p. of GDP, of the volume of oil and gas revenue. The main factor responsible for the upward movement of the oil and gas revenue index (and the corresponding upward movement of federal budget revenue) in face of plummeting world oil prices (to $60 per barrel) was the ruble's dramatic weakening against the USD and euro. Thus, the federal budget surplus of 1.9 % of GDP achieved over the first eleven months of 2014, as well as the surplus of 0.4 % of GDP in the consolidated budget of RF subjects achieved over the ten months of 2014, can by no means be regarded as manifestations of the budget system's sustainability as a whole. As early as late October 2014, Moody's Investors Service rating agency downgraded Russia's credit rating index from Baa1 to Baa2, pointing out in this connection that any further weakening of this country's national currency will have an extremely negative effect on the economy.

Book The Russian State and Russian Energy Companies 1992 2018

Download or read book The Russian State and Russian Energy Companies 1992 2018 written by Ingerid M. Opdahl and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-06-09 with total page 235 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Russian State and Russian Energy Companies analyses the development of relations between the state and five major energy companies, and how this shaped Russia’s foreign policy in the post-Soviet region. The book argues that the development of Russia’s political economy mattered for foreign policy over the quarter of a century from 1992 to 2018. Energy companies’ roles in institutional development enabled them to influence foreign policy formation, and they became available as tools to implement foreign policy. The extent to which it happened for each company varied with their accessibility to the Russian state. Institutional development increased state capacity, in a way that strengthened Russia’s political regime. The book shows how the combined power of several companies in the gas, oil, electricity, and nuclear energy industry was a key feature of Russian foreign policy, both in bilateral relationships and in support of Russia’s regional position. In this way, Russia’s energy resources were converted to regional influence. The book contributes to our understanding of Russia’s political economy and its influence on foreign policy, and of the formation of policy towards post-Soviet states.

Book Budget Superpower

Download or read book Budget Superpower written by John Ruehl and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2022-12-08 with total page 457 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Kremlin’s ability to shape global affairs appeared decimated following the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991. Coupled with the internal instability that gripped Russia in the 1990s, Moscow struggled to develop a coherent and effective foreign policy for almost a decade. But under President Vladimir Putin, Russia has steadily reemerged as one of the most significant countries in the world—and one that is increasingly willing to challenge the United States. In Budget Superpower, geopolitics journalist John P. Ruehl explores how Russia has achieved this feat, despite its relatively limited economic strength. The book is divided into eight chapters, each exploring a tool or approach of the Kremlin’s and how and where it has used this method to maximize Russia’s influence. Each chapter also analyzes the weaknesses and vulnerabilities of Russia’s strategies, as well as cautious predictions for how they may evolve in the future. Russia’s determination to confront the United States has become increasingly apparent over the last decade, culminating in the 2022 invasion of Ukraine. In addition to demonstrating how Russia has effectively undermined the American-led global order, Budget Superpower will help readers understand why Russia has committed to this policy in the face of increasing push back and globally destabilizing consequences.

Book Russian Environmental Politics

Download or read book Russian Environmental Politics written by Ellie Martus and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-07-06 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Protecting the environment is a key issue for Russia, with its vast wilderness areas and its economy’s reliance on extractive industries, which have the potential to cause massive pollution. This book explores how policymaking works in Russia, focusing on the important field of environmental policy. It argues that, contrary to the prevailing view that the presidency dominates the policy process, with Putin making all major decisions or at least being the arbiter between conflicting parties, policy is in fact made a range of competing interests including the bureaucracy and influential industry and industrial association lobbyists, with relatively little intervention from Putin. The book shows how, although Russia does not have a strong civil society, environmentalist views are represented through the institutionalized bureaucracy. The book concludes that policy decision making in Russia is quite dispersed and not overcentralized.

Book US Foreign Policy Towards Russia in the Post Cold War Era

Download or read book US Foreign Policy Towards Russia in the Post Cold War Era written by David Parker and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-06-07 with total page 261 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book discusses how the ideas, expectations and mind-sets that formed within different US foreign policy making institutions during the Cold War have continued to influence US foreign policy making vis-à-vis Russia in the post-Cold War era, with detrimental consequences for US–Russia relations. It analyses what these ideas, expectations and mind-sets are, explores how they have influenced US foreign policy towards Russia as ideational legacies, including the ideas that Russia is untrustworthy, has to be contained and that in some aspects the relationship is necessarily adversarial, and outlines the consequences for US–Russian relations. It considers these ideational legacies in depth in relation to NATO enlargement, democracy promotion, and arms control and sets the subject in its wider context where other factors, such as increasingly assertive Russian foreign policy, impact on the relationship. It concludes by demonstrating how tension and mistrust have continued to grow during the Trump administration and considers the future for US–Russian relations.
