Book The inland fisheries of the Russian Federation their current status for food provision and employment

Download or read book The inland fisheries of the Russian Federation their current status for food provision and employment written by Kolonchin, K. and published by Food & Agriculture Org. [Author] [Author]. This book was released on 2024-05-27 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Russian Federation is the largest country in the world occupying one-third of Eurasia and it has enormous water resources. [Author] Fish from inland waters has always been a central part of the Russian diet and a major contributor to national food security. [Author] Inland fisheries are highly diversified and provide employment to 40 500 fishers in industrial fisheries. [Author] In addition an estimated 2. [Author]4 million amateur and recreational fishers and around 150 000 Indigenous Peoples fish for subsistence and small-scale trade. [Author] Historic production figures surpassed 500 000 tonnes of fish from Russian inland fisheries, but have declined over the last 40 years, and current official catches are around 270 000 tonnes. [Author] However, unrecorded catches by recreational/amateur fishers add up to an estimated 100 000 tonnes annually, and subsistence catches by Indigenous Peoples probably add another 67 000 tonnes; and finally, illegal catches may add another 50 000 tonnes, suggesting that total landings are not far from what was caught in the past. [Author] The Russian Federation has invested significant resources and efforts into developing and managing inland fisheries and aquaculture. [Author] The review presents the current management structure and summarizes the comprehensive legislation governing inland fisheries, including the agreements with neighbouring countries sharing some of the major waterbodies or rivers. Book Russian German Special Relations in the Twentieth Century

Download or read book Russian German Special Relations in the Twentieth Century written by Karl Schlogel and published by Berg. This book was released on 2006-08-01 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Twentieth-century Europe, especially Central Eastern Europe, has been largely defined by Russia and Germany. In this century, cultural and economic exchanges between the two countries were as active as the fires of hatred intense. The smaller states in between, with their unstable borders and internal minorities, suffered from the powers' alliances and their antagonisms. This volume of new research in political and cultural history examines the two powers' turbulent relationship, including the pre-1914 era of exchange and cooperation; the projects of modernity in post-revolutionary Russia and Weimar Germany; the struggle for dominance over Central Europe in World War II; and mutual views of Germans and Russians after 1945. In the wake of the crucial events of 1989 and the transformation of German-Russian relations, it asks whether the configuration of Russian-German relations that once dominated twentieth-century Europe has now dissolved, leaving us to find new ways of cooperation between 'New Russia' and 'New Europe'.

Book Microfinance in Russia

Download or read book Microfinance in Russia written by Sylvie K. Bossoutrot and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 2005-10-18 with total page 115 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Russia, small-scale entrepreneurship has emerged in response to the collapse of state-ownership and unemployment in the early 1990s. Small businesses typically lack adequate collateral and credit history, making them 'unbankable' by the mainstream financial sector. To fund their businesses, micro-entrepreneurs are forced to rely on funds from family and friends, or money lenders. Microfinance institutions of four types have emerged to meet the unfulfilled financing needs of micro-entrepreneurs: commercial banks, specialized NGO-type microfinance institutions, membership-based institutions (such as rural cooperatives and credits unions), and public funds. All four types have enjoyed significant growth in Russia in the past five years, but the industry is still at an early stage of development. Demand appears to far outweigh supply. 'Microfinance in Russia' provides an overview of microfinance in Russia to date, presenting industry trends and identifying key challenges to sustainable growth of the industry.

Book Teacher Education in Russia

Download or read book Teacher Education in Russia written by Ian Menter and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-08-04 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines the history, recent developments, and direction of travel of Russian teacher education. It draws on scholarly expertise and professional experience in Russia and locates the policies and practices that are discussed within the context of the continuing global reform of teacher education. Providing a rich description of the trajectory of teacher education in Russia, the book analyses the processes of change between the history, current practice, and future directions for Russian teacher education. The chapters consider the relationship between research, policy, and practice and examine the respective influences of the former USSR, of processes of wider reform in the Russian Federation since 'glasnost' and 'perestroika', and of globalisation within education. What emerges from the book is that the Russian case is a prime example of 'vernacular globalisation' in teacher education. Many important insights into processes of education reform and some of the major themes in teacher education are discussed, thus providing new perspectives that are likely to be of interest to scholars and researchers of comparative education and teacher education, as well as policymakers.
