The surprises keep rolling in when Ben returns to school only to discover he now has the attention of Flinn Murphy, a popular Alpha senior who has never spoken to Ben before. As a volunteer for the Outreach Program, though, Flinn's attention is now focused on Ben, and as the two men grow closer, Ben finds himself falling hard and fast. But they're only friends because of the program, aren't they? With graduation and Ben's eighteenth birthday looming, will that mean the end of Flinn's interest? Book excerpt: Lyra’s last conscious thought was being trapped under debris in a dam collapse. When her consciousness woke up, things were... different. She was in her sixth decade, but her body was slight and curvy, and she had a lot of blue hair in lieu of her normal mud brown. That was different. She meets the medical team, and they are aliens with pointy ears. Fair enough. She now has pointy ears as well. A briefing lets her know she is an omega. She is the only omega on the entire planet and the first of her kind to wake. What follows is a dizzying culture shock, a lot of firsts, and being the target of a mate-drive run that will see her with partners by the end of it. The first Omega Run since the natural omegas died. What could go wrong?

Book excerpt: Jessi Sutton is defined as an old-worlder being born before the world descended into chaos. After losing his restaurant to the failing economy, he finds himself driving supplies in his big rig back and forth across the country when he stumbles across Lincoln Hughes, battered and broken on the side of the road. Taking care of the unconscious man is a no brainer. Waking up to the rumblings of a vehicle, Linc fears the worst, his alpha has found him. However, the opposite is true; he finds himself swooning over the giant lumberjack, who quickly rushes him off to safety. However, the last thing Linc needs is another over baring alpha male, especially when he now has a little one to take care of. Can Jessi fight his attraction to the young man who doesn't need or want him as anything other than a friend, or does his protective, gentle nature cause Linc to fall head-over-heels in love? The New Alphas series is individual HEAs cast in a post-apocalyptic world where the concept of alpha/omega is just beginning. While all books can be read on their own, characters and storylines do build on top of each other. It is recommended that you start with book 1: Omega of the Enemy.

Book The Joy of Running

Download or read book The Joy of Running written by Thaddeus Kostrubala and published by . This book was released on 2013-05 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Joy of Running is BACK! Current and future runners can now discover the inspiration, support, and guidance packed in this essential running book-information no other book can give you. If your doctor or a friend has ever told you to start exercising, you'll feel better, it's thanks to this book, because in its pages Dr. Thaddeus Kostrubala first described how running can lift your spirits. This is the book that started it all, the book you read to discover how running can save your life-and your soul. The Joy of Running is the book you read to reveal the secrets of running as a path to self-discovery. Running can literally rearrange your personality. In some people the changes are profound-introverts become extraverts. Depressed people lose their depression. Anxiety diminishes or disappears. The Joy of Running was the first book to describe in detail what we now call "runner's high." In no other book will you find a highly-credentialed psychiatrist exploring this expansion of consciousness and its effects on a runner's life. You'll discover how running benefits not only physical fitness, but psychological and spiritual health, as well. And you'll finally understand the changes in your own personality that running can bring about. As Dr. Jack Scaff, founder of the Honolulu Marathon Clinic, said: "The Joy of Running is a bright new light at the end of a long tunnel of ignorance about the effects of slow distance-running on the mind and body of man. Books like this are long overdue." The Joy of Running is the book you hand to someone who is just starting to run. The Joy of Running is the book you read to finally understand the true reason why you are a runner and why you want to ALWAYS be a runner. The Joy of Running is the book that will help you take your running to the next level-the level of self-discovery and growth. The level of joy. But be warned: After almost 40 years the book's magic is very much alive and powerful. Reading it will change your life-and your running.

Book Omega

    Book Details:
  • Author : Camille Flammarion
  • Publisher : Standard Ebooks
  • Release : 2018-09-10T20:12:50Z
  • ISBN :
  • Pages : 194 pages

Download or read book Omega written by Camille Flammarion and published by Standard Ebooks. This book was released on 2018-09-10T20:12:50Z with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Born in 1842, Camille Flammarion was a French astronomer who wrote many popular books about science and astronomy, together with a number of novels which we would now consider to be science fiction. He was a contemporary of H. G. Wells and Jules Verne, though his works never achieved their level of popularity. Omega: The Last Days of the World is an English translation of Flammarion’s novel La Fin du Monde, published in 1893. The book’s fictional premise is the discovery of a comet on a collision course with the Earth in the 25th century. However, this is mostly a pretext on which Flammarion can hang his interesting scientific speculations about how the world will end, together with philosophical thoughts about war and religion. Much of the scientific description he uses in the book, while accurately representing the knowledge and thinking of his time, has today been superseded by modern discoveries. For example, we now know the source of the Sun’s energy to be nuclear fusion rather than being due to gravitational contraction and the constant infall of meteorites. When talking about the ills of society, however, Flammarion could well be talking about today’s world. For example, he excoriates the vast waste of society’s resources on war, and demonstrates how much more productive each nation’s economy would be without it. He also depicts the media of his future world as having been entirely taken over by commercial interests, publishing only what will excite the greatest number of readers rather than serving the public interest. Omega ranges over a vast period of time, from prehistory through to millions of years in the future when mankind has been reduced to the last two doomed individuals. Nevertheless, the book ends on a hopeful and inspiring note. This book is part of the Standard Ebooks project, which produces free public domain ebooks.

Book In It for the Long Run

Download or read book In It for the Long Run written by Damian Hall and published by Vertebrate Publishing. This book was released on 2021-05-06 with total page 405 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We Can't Run Away From This, the new book by bestselling author Damian Hall, is now available for pre-order. In It for the Long Run is ultrarunner Damian Hall's story of his Pennine Way record attempt in July 2020. In July 1989, Mike Hartley set the Fastest Known Time (FKT) record for the Pennine Way, running Britain's oldest National Trail in a little over two days and seventeen hours. He didn't stop to sleep, but did break for fifteen minutes for fish and chips. Hartley's record stood for thirty-one years, until two attempts were made on it in two weeks in the summer of 2020. First, American John Kelly broke Hartley's record by less than an hour, then Hall knocked another two hours off Kelly's time. Hall used his record attempt to highlight environmental issues: his attempt was carbon negative, he used no plastics, and he and his pacing runners collected litter as they went, while also raising money for Greenpeace. A vegan, Hall used no animal products on his attempt. Scrawled on his arm in permanent marker was 'FFF', signifying the three things that matter most to him: Family, Friends, Future. Packed with dry wit and humour, In It for the Long Run tells of Hall's four-year preparation for his attempt, and of the run itself. He also gives us an autobiographical insight into the deranged world of midlife crisis ultramarathon running and record attempts.

Book excerpt: Part memoir, part testimonial, and part life guide, Stand by Your Truth mixes Rickey Smiley’s down-home humor with the values he learned from being raised by three generations of elders, steeped in the Baptist church, and mentored by some of the most celebrated comics in the entertainment industry today. “I’m very passionate about everything that I do and I don’t play any games. I just keep it honest. I don’t put on airs. That’s the only way you can be. If you tell one lie, you’ve got to tell another lie. I’m cool with who I am. What you see is what you get.” Stand-up comic. Single dad. Radio personality. TV star. Prankster. Producer. Community activist. Man of faith. Visit a church, comedy club, college campus, or barber shop, and you’ll find few people who aren’t familiar with, or fans of, Rickey Smiley. At least four million listeners in more than seventy markets tune in every weekday morning to hear him banter with his radio show crew, hilariously prank call an unsuspecting listener, and perform skits featuring his one-man cast of characters, including “Lil Darryl,” “Beauford,” and “Joe Willie.” But in between the rapid-fire jokes and celebrity dish are flashes of how Rickey views the world, from the challenges of raising children, to the importance of education, to the need to always stand by your own truth. After more than two decades in the spotlight, Rickey is finally ready to delve more deeply into the opinions he voices on the air, riffing on those issues that his listeners, viewers, and fans find most important. This collection of personal and powerful essays will speak to readers from all walks of life, and is sure to inspire you to Stand by Your Truth.
