Book excerpt: This book is the first in the V-Star Motoring Series books aimed at helping motorists everywhere have a deeper understanding of some issues concerning their vehicles, which they may have hitherto taken for granted, but which have far reaching implication on their safety, their comfort and the cost of running their car. While safety is paramount in the purpose of this book, we are also conscious of the fact that uncontrolled economic waste and extended period of discomfort can have adverse effect on the quality of our lives. V-Star Motoring Series therefore attempts to raise the level of awareness about these issues. Most of the information highlighted in theses series is so subtle that an average motorist can drive for many years without being aware of them. Unfortunately, not knowing does not mean not paying. We bear the cost, emotionally, psychologically or financially whether we are conscious of the facts or not. This is what makes it particularly dangerous for us all. This volume titled, Your Tyre or Your Life, focuses on the only contact our vehicles have with mother earth, the tyres. Often overlooked, when casual glance shows us it is not flat, but it is the most critical part of any road vehicle. Since the entire weight of the vehicle rest on it, our lives practically depends on it while in the vehicle.Much attention have not been given to the issue of the use of right tyre size because more than 98% of vehicle owners get it right by simply replacing old tyres with the same specification of tyre. Though it must stated here that an average vehicle tyre has a service life of four years. This is not how long it takes to wear out the tyre, but the period of time it takes for the rubber content of the tyre to break down beyond safe level. If you value your safety in any road vehicle, you cannot afford to ignore the tyres, particularly the air pressure in the tyres. As the book go on the point out, the tyre air pressure, which most motorist do not check for several weeks or even months, can be life threatening, beyond undermining the quality of your driving experience and the quality of your life. This book advocates and encourages conscious effort on the part of every motorist to continually check and maintain the manufacturer recommended air pressure in the vehicle tyres at all times, for your safety and the safety of your family.Other coming titles under the series include; How to Drive Safely in Any Environment; How to Drive an Old Car Safely, Economically and in Comfort.

Book Tire Identification and Recordkeeping Us National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Regulation Nhtsa 2018 Edition

Download or read book Tire Identification and Recordkeeping Us National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Regulation Nhtsa 2018 Edition written by The Law Library and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2018-12-04 with total page 30 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Law Library presents the complete text of the Tire Identification and Recordkeeping (US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Regulation) (NHTSA) (2018 Edition). Updated as of May 29, 2018 The tire identification number (TIN), which must appear on virtually all new and retreaded motor vehicle tires sold in the United States, plays an important role in identifying which tires are subject to recall and remedy campaigns for safety defects and noncompliances. This final rule makes two amendments to the TIN. First, because NHTSA has run out of two-symbol codes to identify new tire plants, NHTSA is expanding the first portion of the TIN, previously known as the manufacturer identifier, but more commonly referred to as a "plant code," from two symbols to three for manufacturers of new tires. This amendment substantially increases the number of unique combinations of characters that can be used to identify individual manufacturers of new tires. Second, NHTSA is standardizing the length of the tire identification number to eliminate confusion that could arise from the variable length of tire identification numbers. This final rule standardizes the length of the TIN at 13 symbols for new tires and 7 symbols for retreaded tires, making it easier to identify a TIN from which a symbol is missing. This ebook contains: - The complete text of the Tire Identification and Recordkeeping (US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Regulation) (NHTSA) (2018 Edition) - A dynamic table of content linking to each section - A table of contents in introduction presenting a general overview of the structure
