Book Rulers of the World at Home

Download or read book Rulers of the World at Home written by Gilson Willets and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-12-11 with total page 414 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Rulers of the World at Home: How They Look and How They Live Mind refuses to tolerate distressing differences between the conditions of life of sovereigns and people, due to the greed and tyranny of despots, and reminding one of those days when palaces, castles and cathedrals rose amid the squalor of impoverished peoples sheltering in huts built of wattles and mud. But those dark days are done; and as they have passed away, giving place to happier lives for the people, so the tyranny of selfish pomp, wrung from poverty by excessive taxation, as in Turkey to-day, will sooner or later give way to the potent, all conquering claims of popular rights. Patient h0pe and unremitting endeavor to advance the true and the just are lessons taught and enforced by history past and present, as plainly written on its pages as the recognition of Him who setteth up one and putteth down another, and who abhors wrong and oppression as certainly now as in the old days when, by the prophet Samuel, He reminded His chosen people of the price they would pay for the distinction of having a king like the nations about them. Book Citizens and Rulers of the World

Download or read book Citizens and Rulers of the World written by Mahshid Mayar and published by UNC Press Books. This book was released on 2022-02-16 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: By delving into the complex, cross-generational exchanges that characterize any political project as rampant as empire, this thought-provoking study focuses on children and their ambivalent, intimate relationships with maps and practices of mapping at the dawn of the "American Century." Considering children as students, map and puzzle makers, letter writers, and playmates, Mahshid Mayar interrogates the ways turn-of-the-century American children encountered, made sense of, and produced spatial narratives and cognitive maps of the United States and the world. Mayar further probes how children's diverse patterns of consuming, relating to, and appropriating the "truths" that maps represent turned cartography into a site of personal and political contention. To investigate where in the world the United States imagined itself at the end of the nineteenth century, this book calls for new modes of mapping the United States as it studies the nation on regional, hemispheric, and global scales. By examining the multilayered liaison between imperial pedagogy and geopolitical literacy across a wide range of archival evidence, Mayar delivers a careful microhistorical study of U.S. empire.

Book The New Rulers of the World

Download or read book The New Rulers of the World written by John Pilger and published by Verso Books. This book was released on 2016-03-22 with total page 262 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: John Pilger is one of the world's renowned investigative journalists and documentary filmmakers. In this classic book, with an updated introduction, he reveals the secrets and illusions of modern imperialism. Beginning with Indonesia, he shows how General Suharto's bloody seizure of power in the 1960s was part of a western design to impose a 'global economy' on Asia. A million Indonesians died as the price for being the World Bank's 'model pupil'. In a shocking chapter on Iraq, he delineates the true nature of the West's war against the people of that country. And he dissects, piece by piece, the propaganda of the 'war on terror' to expose its Orwellian truth. Finally, he looks behind the picture-postcard image of his homeland, Australia, to illuminate an enduring legacy of imperialism: the subjugation of the First Australians.

Book The Master Game

    Book Details:
  • Author : Graham Hancock
  • Publisher : Red Wheel Weiser

  • Pages : 674 pages

Download or read book The Master Game written by Graham Hancock and published by Red Wheel Weiser. This book was released on 2011-09-13 with total page 674 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Master Game is a rollercoaster intellectual journey through the back streets and rat runs of history to uncover the traces in architecture and monuments of a secret religion that has shaped the world. Pivotal historical events and processes, not least the Renaissance, the birth of scientific rationalism, and the French and American revolutions, are radically reevaluated in the light of new investigative evidence presented in The Master Game. Even the belief that the United States has a "global mission," so obvious today, may ultimately prove to be less the result of a shortterm reaction to terrorism than the inevitable working out of a covert plan originally set in motion almost two thousand years ago. The Master Game refers to a scheme or "game" played on the world stage to bring about a world order governed by a lofty goal which, today, we term the "Masonic Ideal." The Master Game traces the origins of this game of symbols and words and talismans from ancient Egypt all the way to modern times, and places it squarely on the elitist Scottish Rite Freemasonry, headquartered in Washington, DC, and ruled by a secretive and powerful brotherhood of men who have attained the thirtythird degree. The Master Game exposes this world order's true purpose and, more importantly, shows how it has affected the United States of America and badly backfired on 9/11. The book is adapted and expanded from the authors' earlier, outofprint book Talisman.

Book The New Global Rulers

Download or read book The New Global Rulers written by Tim Büthe and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2011-02-28 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Global private regulations—who wins, who loses, and why Over the past two decades, governments have delegated extensive regulatory authority to international private-sector organizations. This internationalization and privatization of rule making has been motivated not only by the economic benefits of common rules for global markets, but also by the realization that government regulators often lack the expertise and resources to deal with increasingly complex and urgent regulatory tasks. The New Global Rulers examines who writes the rules in international private organizations, as well as who wins, who loses--and why. Tim Büthe and Walter Mattli examine three powerful global private regulators: the International Accounting Standards Board, which develops financial reporting rules used by corporations in more than a hundred countries; and the International Organization for Standardization and the International Electrotechnical Commission, which account for 85 percent of all international product standards. Büthe and Mattli offer both a new framework for understanding global private regulation and detailed empirical analyses of such regulation based on multi-country, multi-industry business surveys. They find that global rule making by technical experts is highly political, and that even though rule making has shifted to the international level, domestic institutions remain crucial. Influence in this form of global private governance is not a function of the economic power of states, but of the ability of domestic standard-setters to provide timely information and speak with a single voice. Büthe and Mattli show how domestic institutions' abilities differ, particularly between the two main standardization players, the United States and Europe.
