Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the four decades following the Second World War, the Royal Military College of Canada has adapted to the need to produce professional career officers by evolving into an academic centre of excellence and one of the country's leading universities. Along the way, it has responded to the challenges of service integration and unification, bilingualism, the emergence of Collège militaire royal and Royal Roads Military College, the employment of women in non-traditional roles, Canada's changing cultural make-up, and the rapid pace of technological change. In a society in which the precepts of military service are increasingly remote, the continued competition for entrance into RMC speaks of its resilience as a centre of learning and leadership.

Book The Roadants of Canadian Services College Royal Roads

Download or read book The Roadants of Canadian Services College Royal Roads written by Douglas Cope and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 835 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the early 1960s young men aged 16 to 19 from across the country, who wished to volunteer for officer training in the army, navy or air force, were selected following a rigorous screening process and sent to one of Canada's three military colleges: RMC, CMR, and Royal Roads near Victoria, British Columbia. In addition to undergoing a very demanding training regimen, those attending Canadian Services College Royal Roads had the unique experience of being the lowest of the low in their first year and the highest of the high, the cadets in charge, in their second year. This book covers one academic year and although a work of fiction, incredible as some of the stories may seem, all of the anecdotes in this book are fundamentally true. They convey the shock for the new boys at being thrust into a rigid system that gave them virtually no privacy and harassed them almost 24 hours a day and the struggles of the second year boys to adapt to their position of power. The result was a step towards manhood that none of the cadets would ever forget.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "In To Serve Canada, [Preston] takes up the story of RMC (Royal Military College) as one of Canada's three military colleges and examines its development through the uncertain years of the Cold War, through the vagaries of public indifference towards defence, through the evolution of degree-granting status and the moves towards institutional bilingualism, and through the frequent Ottawa-directed re-evaluations of their roles. By chronicling the development of RMC and its sister colleges from the post-Korea period to the present, Dr Preston has provided a valuable and entertaining addition to the historical literature of this country"--Foreword, page vii-viii

Book Society Schools and Progress in Canada

Download or read book Society Schools and Progress in Canada written by Joseph Katz and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2017-04-05 with total page 167 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Society, Schools and Progress in Canada provides insights into the way people from various cultures live and work together, thereby building a new society. The book briefly describes the history of the transformation of Canada in terms of its social, economic, and political institutions. The change from a rural and agricultural to an urban and industrial country affects the way of life. This change makes local and migrant people find security through education. After tracing the roots of the different people making up Canada, the societies and communities found in the country are explained through demographics. The author then notes that changes in attitude toward health care, physical developments, and social work naturally followed. A big part of the book deals with education, explaining the educational set-up of the country that includes denominational and military schools. Additional detail is then given to primary, elementary, secondary schools, and to colleges and universities. The training and education of elementary, secondary, vocational, and teachers are discussed. The role of technology, such as television, radio broadcasting, and computers, in education are described. Although Canadian educational facilities are considered one of the best in the world, the book looks into possible reforms covering administration, school grounds and buildings, curriculum, and educational organizations. Special topics such as religion in schools, sex education, penitentiary programs, and an increasing population are also discussed. The text makes for interesting and informative reading for educators, historians, students and teachers in education, and migrant families to Canada.
