Book Royal Air Force Bomber Command Losses

Download or read book Royal Air Force Bomber Command Losses written by W. R. Chorley and published by Crecy Publishing. This book was released on 2002 with total page 388 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the seventh volume in Midland's highly respected series detailing the losses suffered by the RAF's Bomber Command during, and in the case of this volume, in the years immediately after, the Second World War. The OTUs were the units in which aircrew got to grips with the heavy bombers they were to fly in combat. It is perhaps not surprising that the number of men who came to grief whilst training was very high. This volume, in common with the other books in the series, identifies the units involved in each incident as well as the aircraft and the individual members of the crew concerned. A brief description of the circumstances behind each loss is also given. In total, this book provides information on almost 2,400 losses. This is the penultimate volume in the the Bomber Command Losses series. An eighth book, is in preparation. This will be a role of honour, listing all the aircrew who perished in the service of Bomber Command during the conflict.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This series has been of enduring interest over many years, and is still highly sought after. Apart from the obvious interest to aviation historians, many people researching family history find these books invaluable, as so many families had someone in an RAF bomber squadron, who failed to return from active service. With the interest in family history increasing all the time and with many now seeking detailed information about wartime careers of relatives, the series will continue to be used by those seeking to find out more about fathers, grandfathers and other relatives who flew with, and died in the service of Bomber Command during World War 2.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A fully illustrated history of the Royal Air Force while on operations, publishing to mark the centenary of its foundation in World War I. The world's first independent air force, the Royal Air Force celebrates its centenary in 2018. In the 100 years since the end of World War I, the service has been involved in almost continuous operations around the globe, giving the RAF the longest and most wide-ranging history of any air force in the world. But over the years this history has also become entangled with myths. The Royal Air Force: A Centenary of Operations sets the record straight, dispelling these as it uncovers – in both words and photographs – the true exploits and accomplishments of RAF personnel over the last 100 years. From its formation as an independent service in the dying days of World War I, its desperate fight against the Axis air forces in World War II, to its commitments during both the Cold War and modern times, this is the complete story of how the RAF has defended Britain for a century.

Book Royal Air Force Pilot s Notes for Hornet Fiii

Download or read book Royal Air Force Pilot s Notes for Hornet Fiii written by Royal Air Force and published by Periscope Film LLC. This book was released on 2012-05-01 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Designed during WWII as a long-range fighter, the Hornet represented an evolution of the de Havilland Mosquito and was the fastest piston-powered fighter in Royal Air Force service. Like the Mosquito, the Hornet had a fuselage built largely of balsa and plywood, but boasted laminar flow wings and massive Rolls-Royce V12 engines with 12-foot diameter, four-bladed props. It could achieve a speed of 472 mph at 22,000 feet, had a range of 3,000 miles, and was intended to operate from bases on land and aircraft carriers. It was normally equipped to carry two 1,000 lb. bombs, eight rockets, and fitted with four 20mm nose-mounted cannon. Although it first flew in 1944, the Hornet did not achieve operational status until WWII was over. The plane's real worth was revealed during the Malayan Emergency, when Hornet squadrons flew in the ground attack role against Communist insurgents. During five years in combat, Hornets achieved 4,500 operational sorties. The aircraft was withdrawn from RAF service by mid-1956. The Sea Hornet version served with the fleet from 1947 to 1954, and planes continued to fly with secondary units until 1957. These pilot's notes were standard issue for R.A.F. pilots circa 1947. They contain information about aircraft operation, controls, handling, and emergencies. This reproduction features all of the original text and photos in black and white, and full color covers.
