Book Rotating Band Study Test of 3 in 70 AA Projectiles with Armco Iron Rotating Bands

Download or read book Rotating Band Study Test of 3 in 70 AA Projectiles with Armco Iron Rotating Bands written by and published by . This book was released on 1951 with total page 35 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 3-in./70 projectiles of various types, fitted with gilding metal rotating bands, have been observed to exhibit serious band wear; that is, partial or complete obliteration of the engraving of the bands recovered after firing. It was desired to investigate the effect of replacing the gilding metal with soft iron, in order to determine the results of using a material with a considerably increased melting point, and if this change would produce a band which did not fail, to determine the effect upon gun performance.

Book Test and Development of 3 in 70 AA Probert Projectiles Test of 3 in 70 AA Projectiles Fired in Gun with Oily Bore

Download or read book Test and Development of 3 in 70 AA Probert Projectiles Test of 3 in 70 AA Projectiles Fired in Gun with Oily Bore written by W. O. Taylor and published by . This book was released on 1952 with total page 27 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Twelve (12) 3-in./70 AA Projectiles Type Ex 24 Mod 9 were fired for recovery in the 3-in./70 gun Type G Mod 9 No. 24581. The subject gun, although having been fired only 554 equivalent service rounds, was in a badly worn condition due to spiral wear. The worn barrel was oiled with Navy Symbol 5190 oil to determine the effect on the rotating bands and the spin rate of the 3-in./70 AA Projectiles. The firing was conducted in groups of three rounds each, the bore of the gun being oiled prior to the firing of the first round of each group. It is concluded that the presence of oil in the bore of a 3-in./70 G-9 gun decreases band wear. (Author).

Book Test of 3 In 50 AA Projectiles with Copper Welded Overlay Rotating Bands

Download or read book Test of 3 In 50 AA Projectiles with Copper Welded Overlay Rotating Bands written by H. Rischall and published by . This book was released on 1953 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tests were conducted to compare the metallurgical and physical properties and the ballistic performances of the 3-in./50-cal Mk 33 Mod O AA projectiles with Cu welded-overlay bands (I) and standard Mk 33 Mod O projectiles (II). At proof or service pressure, I had better band engraving upon firing from a new gun; however, in a worn gun at service pressure, II showed slightly better band engraving. Both bands failed at proof pressure in a worn gun. The cavity deformation under the band was greater for I. Hard globules of steel in the Cu of I came from the 4.5 to 8.5% Fe which the bands picked up from the projectile during welding. These hard spots would increase gun wear. Range firing results of I and II were about equal. Bore and flight-safety tests on I fired from new and old guns were satisfactory.

Book Recovery and Range Test of 3 15 Aa Projectiles in 3 15 67 Caliber Gun Type a Mod 0 Serial

Download or read book Recovery and Range Test of 3 15 Aa Projectiles in 3 15 67 Caliber Gun Type a Mod 0 Serial written by R. B. BUTLER and published by . This book was released on 1953 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recovery and range tests indicated satisfactory performance of the 3. 15-in./67-cal barrel-projector combination. The mean corrected D/R was 0.37% for twenty 5-round groups. The performance supported the hypothesis that the 3-in./ 70-cal barrel-projectile combination difficulties which have been manifested in low accuracy, body engraving, and spiral wear are caused by band failures arising from the relatively large ratio of band diameter to body diameter. Preliminary tests of nylon rotating bands for the 3.15-in. projectile appeared promising.

Book Advancements in Electric Machines

Download or read book Advancements in Electric Machines written by J. F. Gieras and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-11-14 with total page 283 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Traditionally, electrical machines are classi?ed into d. c. commutator (brushed) machines, induction (asynchronous) machines and synchronous machines. These three types of electrical machines are still regarded in many academic curricula as fundamental types, despite that d. c. brushed machines (except small machines) have been gradually abandoned and PM brushless machines (PMBM) and switched reluctance machines (SRM) have been in mass p- duction and use for at least two decades. Recently, new topologies of high torque density motors, high speed motors, integrated motor drives and special motors have been developed. Progress in electric machines technology is stimulated by new materials, new areas of applications, impact of power electronics, need for energy saving and new technological challenges. The development of electric machines in the next few years will mostly be stimulated by computer hardware, residential and public applications and transportation systems (land, sea and air). At many Universities teaching and research strategy oriented towards el- trical machinery is not up to date and has not been changed in some co- tries almost since the end of the WWII. In spite of many excellent academic research achievements, the academia–industry collaboration and technology transfer are underestimated or, quite often, neglected. Underestimation of the role of industry, unfamiliarity with new trends and restraint from technology transfer results, with time, in lack of external ?nancial support and drastic - cline in the number of students interested in Power Electrical Engineering.
