Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Now in trade paperback, a mystical fiction debut from Britain’s bestselling “Favorite White Witch” that takes readers on a romantic journey from Elizabethan England to modern-day London where a centuries-old secret awaits. Before his death in 1609, Queen Elizabeth’s spiritual consultant, astrologer, and scientific advisor John Dee hid many of his most astonishing written works, believing that the world was not yet prepared to face the shocking truths that they revealed. For seventeen generations, his female descendants have carefully guarded the secret of his hiding place, waiting for the right moment to bring Dee’s ideas to light. That time is now. In The Rose Labyrinth, popular British author Titania Hardie masterfully blends historical fact and fiction as she introduces readers to Lucy King, a beautiful, young documentary producer based in London. With the help of a brilliant group of friends, Lucy races through London, France, and New York to decipher the clues that will eventually lead her to the hidden treasure of the Rose Labyrinth. Along the way she finds true love with Alex Stafford, the doctor who saw her through a life-threatening heart condition and transplant. A sweeping adventure for readers who loved The Da Vinci Code and The Expected One, The Rose Labyrinth is a decadent, romantic novel with a historical twist. It features a wonderful mix of literary references, from Shakespeare, to the Romantic poets, to Gabriel Garcia Marquez; the folklore and history of Islam, Christianity, Judaism, and Paganism; and of course, astrology and numerology, of which Titania Hardie is an expert. As the Rose Labyrinth tells us, the world we think we know is not all that it appears to be.

Book excerpt: It has been said that Don Nigro now has more plays in print than any American playwright. This is surprising considering that he remains relatively unknown to the general public. Despite his obscurity, Nigro is on his way to being regarded as one of the country's great dramatists. His work has been performed in colleges, universities, off-off-Broadway, and community theaters both in the U.S. and abroad. In Labyrinth, McGhee chronicles Nigro's stories, plays, settings, and characters of almost 200 monologue, one-act and full-length plays. Given the breadth of Nigro's characters and exciting plots, Labyrinth is a useful resource for directors, actors, and enthusiasts in both professional and repertory theater. In addition, Labyrinth introduces readers to generations of gripping tales about extraordinary people. McGhee's book is a welcome addition to any theater library.

Book THE ROSE GARDEN

  • Pages : 34 pages

Download or read book THE ROSE GARDEN written by Montague Rhodes James and published by 谷月社. This book was released on 2015-10-15 with total page 34 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Some few years back I was staying with the rector of a parish in the West, where the society to which I belong owns property. I was to go over some of this land: and, on the first morning of my visit, soon after breakfast, the estate carpenter and general handyman, John Hill, was announced as in readiness to accompany us. The rector asked which part of the parish we were to visit that morning. The estate map was produced, and when we had showed him our round, he put his finger on a particular spot. 'Don't forget,' he said, 'to ask John Hill about Martin's Close when you get there. I should like to hear what he tells you.' 'What ought he to tell us?' I said. 'I haven't the slightest idea,' said the rector, 'or, if that is not exactly true, it will do till lunch-time.' And here he was called away. We set out; John Hill is not a man to withhold such information as he possesses on any point, and you may gather from him much that is of interest about the people of the place and their talk. An unfamiliar word, or one that he thinks ought to be unfamiliar to you, he will usually spell—as c-o-b cob, and the like. It is not, however, relevant to my purpose to record his conversation before the moment when we reached Martin's Close. The bit of land is noticeable, for it is one of the smallest enclosures you are likely to see—a very few square yards, hedged in with quickset on all sides, and without any gate or gap leading into it. You might take it for a small cottage garden long deserted, but that it lies away from the village and bears no trace of cultivation. It is at no great distance from the road, and is part of what is there called a moor, in other words, a rough upland pasture cut up into largish fields....

Book Summary of Jenny Odell s How to Do Nothing

Download or read book Summary of Jenny Odell s How to Do Nothing written by Everest Media and published by Everest Media LLC. This book was released on 2022-03-01T21:00:00Z with total page 27 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Please note: This is a companion version & not the original book. Sample Book Insights: #1 I gave a talk at EYEO, an art and technology conference in Minneapolis, Minnesota, in 2017. I ground the talk in a specific place: the Morcom Amphitheatre of Roses in Oakland, California. I did that because it was in the Rose Garden that I began brainstorming my talk. #2 I work as a visual artist, and my favorite public art piece is by a documentary filmmaker. It was done in 1973, and materially consisted of a map with a list of locations in San Francisco. Following Steinbeck’s formula, the windows at each location were the bottle, and whatever happened behind them were the stories that crawled in. #3 A more recent example of this is Scott Polach’s Applause Encouraged, which takes place at Cabrillo National Monument in San Diego. In this case, the artist creates a space that is open to the public against the pressures of habit, familiarity, and distraction. #4 Bird-watching is the opposite of looking something up online. You can’t really look for birds, but you can listen for them and identify them when they sing. This practice requires you to do nothing but listen.
