These thoughts are sometimes pleasing, sometimes appalling and tend to make an impression in your life in different ways. In the quest to explore his journey from childhood to the present day, the writer has attempted to reminisce his past. He speaks about how he has dealt with the twists and turns that had occurred, how these thoughts have helped him learn from his experiences, and ushered in positivity that facilitated in shaping his future. You cannot change whatever has already happened during your lifetime. It is therefore important to leave the past behind, believe in the present, plan for the future and keep moving on. Life is all about living and you get only one chance. So, live-it up with nostalgic memories.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Every person has dreams; some may be realized while some may remain dreams only. I have always believed in dreaming and dreaming big. I have also believed that mere dreaming is not enough. One must work hard to realize those dreams by putting in honest efforts in the right direction. I have also had several dreams, some of which were realized but some did remain dreams only. It is reasonable to analyze, at this advanced age, which of the dreams could be turned into realities, and which remained dreams only. I have the pleasure of sharing with my readers my life time experience in this direction.”

  • Author : Henning Schmidgen
  • Publisher : Fordham Univ Press

Download or read book Bruno Latour in Pieces written by Henning Schmidgen and published by Fordham Univ Press. This book was released on 2014-10-15 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bruno Latour stirs things up. Latour began as a lover of science and technology, co-founder of actor-network theory, and philosopher of a modernity that had “never been modern.” In the meantime he is regarded not just as one of the most intelligent—and also popular—exponents of science studies but also as a major innovator of the social sciences, an exemplary wanderer who walks the line between the sciences and the humanities. This book provides the first comprehensive overview of the Latourian oeuvre, from his early anthropological studies in Abidjan (Ivory Coast), to influential books like Laboratory Life and Science in Action, and his most recent reflections on an empirical metaphysics of “modes of existence.” In the course of this enquiry it becomes clear that the basic problem to which Latour’s work responds is that of social tradition, the transmission of experience and knowledge. What this empirical philosopher constantly grapples with is the complex relationship of knowledge, time, and culture.

Book Medicine Preserving the Passion

Download or read book Medicine Preserving the Passion written by Phil R. Manning and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-14 with total page 309 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Medicine: Preserving the Passion, Phil R. Manning, a pioneer and recognized authority in continuing medical education, and Lois DeBakey, a passionate advocate of critical reasoning and leading scholar in scientific communication, endeavor to shift the focus in lifelong learning from group exercises in a lecture hall to self-directed, practice-related activities. Al though most experts have applauded this new concept, few publications have addressed methods for implementation. The Manning-DeBakey book describes such methods as devised by outstanding clinicians and acade micians to obtain educational benefit from their clinical experience. Some techniques inspired by quality assurance, for example, these master cli nicians have used successfully to improve their knowledge, skills, and patient care. This book not only identifies the primary concerns in con tinuing medical education, but also offers sound recommendations and effective solutions and suggests future directions and approaches. The authors have analyzed the continuing educational practices of phy sicians in a wide range of environments, from small communities to the most acclaimed medical centers, and have extracted additional advice from the writings of past authorities like Osler. The resulting concepts will un doubtedly attract wide public attention. Office practice audit, self-directed learning, case indexing, patient education, computer-assisted education, and collegial networks, as well as regular reading, writing, and teaching, are among the successful methods described by physicians and surgeons who exemplify the highest standards of medical practice.

Book excerpt: “Although the benefits of this study to scholars are obvious, this thought-provoking mixture of scholarly and colloquial will enlighten inquisitive general readers, too.” — Library Journal (starred review) The classic study of the creative process from the bestselling author of Flow. Creativity is about capturing those moments that make life worth living. Legendary psychologist Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi (“The leading researcher into ‘flow states.’” — Newsweek) reveals what leads to these moments—be it the excitement of the artist at the easel or the scientist in the lab—so that this knowledge can be used to enrich people's lives. Drawing on nearly one hundred interviews with exceptional people, from biologists and physicists, to politicians and business leaders, to poets and artists, as well as his thirty years of research on the subject, Csikszentmihalyi uses his famous flow theory to explore the creative process. He discusses such ideas as why creative individuals are often seen as selfish and arrogant, and why the "tortured genius" is largely a myth. Most important, he explains why creativity needs to be cultivated and is necessary for the future of our country, if not the world.
