Book Rooted in Love Louis and Z lie Martin

Download or read book Rooted in Love Louis and Z lie Martin written by Annette Goulden and published by ICS Publications. This book was released on 2021-04-27 with total page 270 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When Sts. Louis and Zélie Martin were canonized in 2015, they were the first spouses to be declared saints as a couple. Their lives are proof that God works through ordinary families to draw his future saints—like St. Thérèse of Lisieux, Louis and Zélie’s youngest daughter—toward holiness. Even before their first encounter in the small town of Alençon, France, God was preparing Louis and Zélie for marriage. Later, he continued to sustain them powerfully in their married love and family life. Rooted in Love: Louis and Zélie Martin: Models of Married Love, Family Life, and Everyday Holiness explores the stages of Louis and Zélie’s marriage, from the joys of parenthood, through the sorrows of bereavement, and ultimately to the challenges of single parenthood—experiences which many families face today. Author Annette Goulden demonstrates how, amid both the joys and the sorrows of family life, these saints grew in their understanding of God’s love for them. From the initial urge to earn God’s favor with sacrifices and sufferings to a deeper understanding of God’s unconditional love even in the minutiae of daily life, God was their guide on the path to holiness, a path that is open to all married couples. This book is for both families and individuals—to offer them light and guidance to live their ordinary everyday life in closeness with God. No matter one’s vocation in life, Louis and Zélie exemplify how everyday experiences, such as being a working parent, running a business, or raising a difficult child, can be sacramental if one is open to a trusting relationship with God, even when he seems to be absent. Whatever the situation a married couple find themselves in, this saintly couple shows how daily actions and choices—however small and ordinary—are highly valued by God and can lead to holiness, to a close relationship with him, and to forming children who are strong in faith, maturity, and joy.

Drawing on the holiness-communitarian and agrarian-ecological traditions, Rooted and Grounded in Love provides a systematic theological affirmation of holiness as divine wholeness in examining our present industrial agro-economy while also promoting a practical vision for how Christians might participate in the emergence of a more ecologically sustaining, economically charitable, and politically just food system.

Book excerpt: John Armstrong knows from personal experience how easy it is to put too much emphasis on correct teaching in our experience of church—and how easily we lose sight of the love on which Christ built his church when we do so. In Costly Love, Armstrong acknowledges the importance of doctrine and theological discussion in the church, but he urges Christians to focus first on whether we are following Jesus’ new commandment: to love as he loved. Our actions of love will begin to bring us closer to unity with one another and with God.

Book International Handbook of Love

Download or read book International Handbook of Love written by Claude-Hélène Mayer and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-05-04 with total page 1123 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This handbook includes state-of-the-art research on love in classical, modern and postmodern perspectives. It expands on previous literature and explores topics around love from new cultural, intercultural and transcultural approaches and across disciplines. It provides insights into various love concepts, like romantic love, agape, and eros in their cultural embeddedness, and their changes and developments in specific cultural contexts. It also includes discussions on postmodern aspects with regard to love and love relationships, such as digitalisation, globalisation and the fourth industrial revolution. The handbook covers a vast range of topics in relation to love: aging, health, special needs, sexual preferences, spiritual practice, subcultures, family and other relationships, and so on. The chapters look at love not only in terms of the universal concept and in private, intimate relationships, but apply a broad concept of love which can also, for example, be referred to in postmodern workplaces. This volume is of interest to a wide readership, including researchers, practitioners and students of the social sciences, humanities and behavioural sciences. In the 1970s through the 90s, I was told that globalization was homogenizing cultures into a worldwide monoculture. This volume, as risky and profound as the many adventures of love across our multiplying cultures are, proves otherwise. The authors’ revolutionary and courageous work will challenge our sensibilities and expand the boundaries of what we understand what love is. But that’s what love does: It communicates what is; offers what can be; and pleads for what must be. I know you’ll enjoy this wonderful book as much as I do! Jeffrey Ady, Associate Professor (retired), Public Administration Program, University of Hawaii at Manoa, Founding Fellow, International Academy for Intercultural Research The International Handbook of Love is far more than a traditional compendium. It is a breath-taking attempt to synthesize our anthropological and sociological knowledge on love. It illuminates topics as diverse as Chinese love, one-night stands, teen romance or love of leaders and many more. This is a definitive reference in the field of love studies. Eva Illouz, author of The End of Love: A sociology of Negative relationships. Oxford University Press. “This is not a volume to be read in a single sitting (though I almost did, due to a protracted hospital stay), nor is it romantic or inspirational reading (though, in some cases, I had hoped for more narrative examples and case studies. Rather it is a highly diverse scholarly effort, a massive resource collection of research papers on love in a variety of contexts, personal and professional settings, and cultures. The work is well referenced providing a large number of resources for deeper exploration. .... We owe our thanks to the authors and editors of this “handbook” for work well done, though that word in the title should not lead readers to suspect that, enlightening as it is, this book is a vade mecum or practical tour guide that provides ready solutions to the vicissitudes and challenges of our love lives!” Reviewed by Dr. George F. Book Travel Through Ephesians

Download or read book Travel Through Ephesians written by Thomas L. Hiegel and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2013-06 with total page 207 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What does Paul mean when he says, "to walk (lead a life) worthy of the [divine] calling to which you have been called"? God says to the readers of Ephesians and to each of us, "Here, my child. This is your identity, your position; stand in your rights!" Paul's great letter to the church located in a city full of idols and paganism is quite appropriate for study in our day. It could be called Paul's masterpiece because of its depth and vastness. Ephesians could be considered a theology course for every believer, or perhaps a treatise on the church. Paul desires every reader to mature in faith, love, character, and revelation. He celebrates in a basic theme of redemption by God and describes how the redeemed person should live. Paul's revelation on many subjects is our Scripture and guide for life. He expounds on: - existence in Christ; - the spiritual blessings of every believer; - the role of The Holy Spirit in the Christian's life; - the transformation of grace; - election, predestination and adoption of God's children; - redemption through Christ's blood; - family life; and - spiritual warfare and God's mighty armor. I encourage you to make a journey with me through Ephesians. I believe it will change your life.

Download or read book Rooted in His Love written by Nancy Chase and published by Xulon Press. This book was released on 2012-06 with total page 302 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: God put it on my heart to write a book about prayer. This came as a complete surprise to me since I have never thought of myself as a writer. Actually, God has put a couple of book ideas in my heart over the last ten years or so and I have rejected them because I was clueless as to where to start. Besides that, I wasn't crazy about subjecting myself to public criticism. God didn't say why He wanted me to write this book but I got the impression that I should not reject His request again. So here you have it. I hope with all my heart that through reading this book you will be able to draw closer to God as your First Love and your most trusted confidant. Talk to Him throughout the day as if your best friend was right there at your side. Run to His arms when you need help or protection. Love Him with all of your heart. Sink your roots into Him and never let go. I was born and raised on the East Coast and spent most of my adult life in the Mountain States. Now I am semi-retired and living in Panama with my sweet husband. We spend our days learning Spanish, helping people and telling them about the love of Jesus. 22 years ago I asked Jesus Christ to be Lord of my life. Soon after that I was diagnosed with cancer and clung to the Lord for dear life. After four bouts of cancer and many ups and downs we are closer now than ever. My Lord has never abandoned me. To those who say that they don't want to give up their lifestyle to become a Christian I say "Oh honey, you don't know what you are missing! My life has never been more full or more fun."
