Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Prentice-Hall Tax Service for 1919 This allowance is not based upon the difference between the actual war cost of such facilities and what they would have cost at pre-war prices. Obviously the taxpayer is not entitled to recover or extinguish through amortization more than the difference between the war cost of such property and what he can sell the property for after the war, or if he continues to need and use it in his business, what it would have cost him after the war. As the rule is expressed in Article 183 of the Regulations: The total amount to be extinguished by amortization, in general, is the excess of the unextinguished or unrecovered cost of the property over its maximum value (either for sale or for use as part of the plant or equipment of a going business) under stable post war. Book The First Twenty Years

Download or read book The First Twenty Years written by and published by . This book was released on 2015-08-05 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The First Twenty Years: A History of the Growth and Development of the American Rolling Mill Company, Middletown, Ohio, Beginning 1901 and Ending 1922 Work - honest labor - is one of the noblest things in life. "One who can feel that he is doing his fair share of the work of the world has good reason to be happy. "No normal man can, however, be satisfied simply to work. He wants to work to some purpose and to accomplish the largest possible result, both for himself, his associates, and his company. He wants to work effectively. "There can be no real effective work without the inspiration of that thing called 'spirit', which is the mainspring of accomplishment. "It is for that reason that we have been so greatly interested in the development of real 'Armco Spirit'. Armco spirit can first be compared with what, at school, is termed 'college spirit' or 'class spirit' as applied to those graduating in any given year. It compares with 'community spirit', or what might be described as 'group spirit' as representing the combined interest and purpose of any given number of persons working together in a common cause. "Spirit is that thing which grips and holds the hearts of men and gives the power of extraordinary accomplishment, when working for a worthy purpose. "Armco spirit is a comprehensive, vital force, which finds expression in the practical application of policies builded on a platform of Christian principles, in which selfish purpose has no place. Book Cotton Mill Machinery Calculations

Download or read book Cotton Mill Machinery Calculations written by B. M. Parker and published by . This book was released on 2015-08-06 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Cotton Mill Machinery Calculations: A Complete, Comprehensive and Practical Treatment of All Necessary Calculation on Cotton Carding and Spinning Machines This book is intended to fill what, to the Author, has been a long-felt want, that is, a book that would give the practical calculations that are needed in running a cotton mill, from pickers to looms, in a simple, straight-forward manner, so as to be easily understood and mastered by any one who understands simple arithmetic. It is, in great part, a reprint of a series of articles that were written for and printed by "Cotton" during the years 1911 and 1912, being entirely revised and somewhat enlarged, with the addition of numerous tables scattered throughout its length, and covering practically all the calculations, simple and otherwise, that any one would ever need in handling a modem mill. Wherever possible, long tedious descriptions of individual mechanisms, peculiar to some one make or type of machine, have been omitted, as this was not the object in writing the book, but no pains have been spared to make the calculations complete yet simple and easily understood. As will be noticed, the tables occurring at the end of the different chapters of the book, are mostly taken from the catalogues of some of the cotton mill machine builders and the Author wishes here to express his appreciation of their kindness in allowing the use of such tables. Criticisms of this work, made in a spirit of friendliness, will be gladly received, as it is almost impossible to prevent the occurrence of a few mistakes. With the above remarks, the work is submitted for the approval of the public and with the hope that it will be the means of bringing a more thorough understanding of the calculations used in the mill to some who have found them a little puzzling. Book The Manufacture of Steel Balls Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Manufacture of Steel Balls Classic Reprint written by Robert H. Grant and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-06 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Manufacture of Steel Balls Several other ball companies had no good blanking process, and, therefore, hired men who understood the rolling process from the Simonds Co. A number of machines were thus designed similar to the Simonds type. One of these had circular platens instead of straight ones, and was made with circular dies, one within the other. The die holders, of course, were running in opposite directions. This machine worked satisfactorily, but the dies were much more difficult to make on account of their circular shape, and also on account of the fact that the inner die was smaller than the outer. The company designing this machine did not have a good grinding process and the machine was, therefore, soon abandoned on account of discontinuing the manufacture of balls. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The American Iron and Steel Manufacturing Company, Lebanon's Great Iron Works: Read Before the Lebanon County Historical Society, April 20, 1916 The original crude square iron, in time, was replaced by round bars of uniform and perfect shape; the swaging block gave place to the rolling mill with its trains; automatic ma chinery has largely done the work formerly required of the' human machine and human muscles; oil and coal dust now. Supply heat, and the dense smoke from great stacks is no longer an indication of business actiiity; electricity has sup planted the steam engine, and the great buildings of_ great corporations now occupy the space where humble little shops in the past turned out, in their feeble way, more goods than a doubting world was willing to consume, and at a price which it would now be impossible to obtain.
