Book Role of Calibration in the Application of HEC 6

Download or read book Role of Calibration in the Application of HEC 6 written by and published by . This book was released on 1984 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: HEC-6 (6) is a one-dimensional movable boundary open channel flow model designed to simulate streambed profile changes over fairly long time periods (typically years). Calibration, the process of adjusting model parameters such that model results conform with observed prototype behavior is an essential ingredient of any modeling effort; be it physical or mathematical. Calibration strategies for movable boundary numerical modeling (i.e., HEC-6(6)) vary widely depending upon type and availability of field data and study scope and objective. This paper describes the process of calibrating HE-6, and interpretation of field data and model results. Examples drawn from past project studies are used to illustrate important points. The theoretical and numerical limitations on the extrapolation of model results to key input data and its applicability to bridge design are also discussed.

Book Guidelines for the Calibration and Application of Computer Program HEC 6

Download or read book Guidelines for the Calibration and Application of Computer Program HEC 6 written by William Andrew Thomas and published by . This book was released on 1981 with total page 46 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Computer program HEC-6, 'Scour and Deposition in Rivers and Reservoirs' is a one dimensional steady state simulation model designed to analyze long-termed scour and deposition in rivers and reservoirs. The program considers the interactions between water and suspended sediment, the sediment material in the bed and the hydraulics of the flow. Procedures for calibrating and applying HEC-6 to river and reservoir sediment studies are discussed. Some of the topics discussed include development of representative geometric and hydrologic data preparation of sediment data and methods of verifying numerical results. This document is intended to be used as a supplement to the 'HEC-6 Users Manual'. (Author).

Book Status and New Capabilities of Computer Program HEC 6 Scour and Deposition in Rivers and Reservoirs

Download or read book Status and New Capabilities of Computer Program HEC 6 Scour and Deposition in Rivers and Reservoirs written by Robert C. MacArthur and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 14 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Last year the Hydrologic Engineering Center (HEC) and the Waterways Experiment Station incorporated the results from more than ten years of research and development into a new version of computer program HEC-6: 'Scour and Deposition in Rivers and Reservoirs' (HEC, 1977). Because of the extensive modifications made to HEC-6, an entirely new User's Manual was also prepared. HEC released a Beta Test Version of the program in the fall of 1989, for field testing. Public release of the new version of HEC-6 is scheduled for September 1990. This paper describes the present status of the program as of April 1990, the expanded capabilities, and the improved documentation to be included in the forthcoming release of computer program HEC-6. Keywords: Computer programs; User manuals; Sediment transport modeling; Deposition; One-dimensional mobile boundary model; Rivers; Reservoirs. (CP).

Book Developing and Managing a Comprehensive Reservoir Analysis Model

Download or read book Developing and Managing a Comprehensive Reservoir Analysis Model written by Richard J. Hayes and published by . This book was released on 1988 with total page 22 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Corps' Hydrologic Engineering Center (HEC) has developed a generalized simulation model capable of analyzing complex river-reservoir systems. The development of the model, 'HEC-5, Simulation of Flood Control and Conservation Systems' (Eichert, 1974, 1975) has been paced by the changing mission of the Corps as well as the evolution of computer systems. HEC-5 development and management, including code development, testing, documentation, training and field application experience, is discussed. (fr).

Book Review of the U S Army Corps of Engineers Involvement with Alluvial Fan Flooding Problems

Download or read book Review of the U S Army Corps of Engineers Involvement with Alluvial Fan Flooding Problems written by Robert C. MacArthur and published by . This book was released on 1988 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This technical paper presents a general overview of the Corps of Engineers' past involvements, present practices, and the future roles in dealing with alluvial fan flooding problems. The Corps' approach to alluvial fan flooding studies and the analytical methods they use to assess potential flood hazards are summarized. Selected case studies are presented. Six important issues that need to be considered as part of an effective alluvial fan management approach are presented. An extensive list of references is also included. (fr).
