Book excerpt: Hugo Sands’ long lost love, the spritely and alluring Cassandra Campi, returns to Random Point in mid-summer, just a few days after her Ivy League daughter Amanda and her boyfriend Colby, depart for a month in Europe. Cassandra has a plan to open a players’ club in the village, but it takes composer Anthony Newton’s wealth to make it materialize in the best taste and style. Not only does Anthony purchase the perfect property for Cassandra’s salon, furnish it lavishly and lure the magnetic Hope Lawrence away from the bookstore to be assistant manager, but Cassandra’s handsome new patron also bestows many intimate caresses on the lovable mistress of the house, who hasn’t quite figured out if she’s a bottom or top, but is willing to give both a try. Meanwhile, Amanda and Colby tour Italy, cross paths with Susan and Diana in a Paris hotel, play in Club Doma in The Hague, and provoke a shy couple in Hammerfest to spank by the midnight sun. While abroad, Amanda learns of her mother’s interesting adventures, which include seducing Michael Flagg and other hot men belonging to fierce resident Random Point beauties. When Amanda and Colby return to Cape Cod in August, they are swept up in the excitement of the first party to be held in the new Venus Club, celebrating both the club’s opening and Amanda Sands’ nineteenth birthday. Rogue Mistress presents a piquant buffet of bite-sized fetish confections, balanced by substantial servings of free love, modern romance and scene satire. Featuring a fabulous finale with all the favorite Shadow Lane characters together in one luxe play space for the spanking party of all time.

Book excerpt: A sophisticated but sweet group of spanking enthusiasts enact fantasies replete with well-bred perversity from Cape Cod to Southern California in Eve Howard's latest collection of interlocking stories. Five quietly seductive young women enjoy their first cataclysmic encounters with suitable dominant males as: a girl is propositioned by her masterful boss, Hugo Sands discovers an interesting female relation in the scene, a gentleman rectifies a bad first impression made on a lovely submissive, a pretty psychoanalyst gives her patient enough confidence to turn her over his knee, a difficult beauty is conquered by Sloan Taylor, a tempestuous actress moves to Random Point and discovers she's not the only one into spanking and her hitherto clueless husband sees the good of this. About the Author: In Random Point, everything is linked to spanking and this is true for the author of the Shadow Lane novels as well. Eve Howard has been writing and producing spanking erotica since the 1980's. Eve has written, directed and produced over 140 spanking videos. Female-friendly and designed to make people feel good, rather than guilty, about being into spanking, Eve suggests an irreverent alternative to the all or nothing B&D subculture portrayed in such beloved classics as The Story of O. Many spanking fans have discovered the real life spanking scene by following the same patterns of social networking as described in the Shadow Lane novels. And for almost twenty years, Eve's company Shadow Lane has been one of the primary social organs of the real life spanking scene. Book excerpt: It's June in Random Point and 18-year-old Amanda Sands has been left in charge of Hugo's antiques shop and his spanking magazine. Pursued by gallery owner Raphael Price as well as married photographer Pascal Robbins, the charismatic Harvard coed cuts her blonde hair short, turns sophisticated Pamela Bartlett into her adoring submissive and continues to ravish the senses of her love-struck boyfriend Colby Hodge. Pascal's wife, singer-actress Phoebe Casper, develops a mad crush on composer Anthony Newton that threatens to ruin her marriage and dislodge Susan Ross as the queen of Newton's heart. Meanwhile Pamela's husband, department store owner Ambrose Bartlett, lays siege to voluptuous, former dominatrix Polyxena Guzman, which completely distracts him from noticing the worshipful court being paid to his glamorous wife by the youthful Dru Baxter. Marguerite Alexander creates the Venus Club to bring all her local girlfriends in the scene closer together, but doesn't foresee that including Jane Eliot in the circle will ignite a dangerous flame of desire in the girl who was once so in love with her husband, Michael Flagg. The romance of discipline wafts through Random Point like a balmy summer breeze as its animated denizens discover just how much pleasure, passion and corporal punishment eroticism can be fit into one small month. About the Author: A lifelong enthusiast, Eve Howard has been writing, editing and creating spanking erotica since the 1980's. There are 10 previous volumes in the Shadow Lane series as well as a pictorial publication called Shadow Lane's The Art of Spanking Volume One. Eve has also written, directed and produced over 170 spanking videos and has recently returned to the small screen as a performer in some her own productions. Designed to make people feel good, rather than guilty about being into spanking, Eve's books suggest an irreverent alternative to the BDSM extremes portrayed in such novels as The Story of O. Eve was the editor of the beautifully designed Stand Corrected magazine, which raised the bar for spanking publications in the 1990's. And for over 20 years, Eve's company Shadow Lane has been one of the primary social organs of the real-life spanking scene, throwing annual gala events for fellow enthusiasts to come together and celebrate the spicy variation that has preoccupied them for so long. Eve lives with her husband Tony and their two cats in Las Vegas.

Formerly a stern and imperious dom, his persistent love for Laura has all but civilized him. But instead of enchanting his favorite submissive, Hugos' sudden tameness has the opposite effect on Laura, who breaks every rule of their relationship to provoke him into reacting like the strict martinet she once knew and loved. Meanwhile, Ivy League brat Susan Ross selects Sherman Cooper as the proper dominant to provide her naughty friend Diana Stratton with the discipline she craves. Finally, all the young women of Random Point conspire to rescue a delightful submissive from a cruel master. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: New York Times Bestseller • Finalist for the Pulitzer Prize • An Oprah's Book Club Selection “Powerful . . . [Kingsolver] has with infinitely steady hands worked the prickly threads of religion, politics, race, sin and redemption into a thing of terrible beauty.” —Los Angeles Times Book Review The Poisonwood Bible, now celebrating its 25th anniversary, established Barbara Kingsolver as one of the most thoughtful and daring of modern writers. Taking its place alongside the classic works of postcolonial literature, it is a suspenseful epic of one family's tragic undoing and remarkable reconstruction over the course of three decades in Africa. The story is told by the wife and four daughters of Nathan Price, a fierce, evangelical Baptist who takes his family and mission to the Belgian Congo in 1959. They carry with them everything they believe they will need from home, but soon find that all of it—from garden seeds to Scripture—is calamitously transformed on African soil. The novel is set against one of the most dramatic political chronicles of the twentieth century: the Congo's fight for independence from Belgium, the murder of its first elected prime minister, the CIA coup to install his replacement, and the insidious progress of a world economic order that robs the fledgling African nation of its autonomy. Against this backdrop, Orleanna Price reconstructs the story of her evangelist husband's part in the Western assault on Africa, a tale indelibly darkened by her own losses and unanswerable questions about her own culpability. Also narrating the story, by turns, are her four daughters—the teenaged Rachel; adolescent twins Leah and Adah; and Ruth May, a prescient five-year-old. These sharply observant girls, who arrive in the Congo with racial preconceptions forged in 1950s Georgia, will be marked in surprisingly different ways by their father's intractable mission, and by Africa itself. Ultimately each must strike her own separate path to salvation. Their passionately intertwined stories become a compelling exploration of moral risk and personal responsibility.

Book excerpt: The second volume of writings by Los Angeles artist Mike Kelley, focusing on his own work. What John C. Welchman calls the "blazing network of focused conflations" from which Mike Kelley's styles are generated is on display in all its diversity in this second volume of the artist's writings. The first volume, Foul Perfection, contained thematic essays and writings about other artists; this collection concentrates on Kelley's own work, ranging from texts in "voices" that grew out of scripts for performance pieces to expository critical and autobiographical writings.Minor Histories organizes Kelley's writings into five sections. "Statements" consists of twenty pieces produced between 1984 and 2002 (most of which were written to accompany exhibitions), including "Ajax," which draws on Homer, Colgate- Palmolive, and Longinus to present its eponymous hero; "Some Aesthetic High Points," an exercise in autobiography that counters the standard artist bio included in catalogs and press releases; and a sequence of "creative writings" that use mass cultural tropes in concert with high art mannerisms—approximating in prose the visual styles that characterize Kelley's artwork. "Video Statements and Proposals" are introductions to videos made by Kelley and other artists, including Paul McCarthy and Bob Flanagan and Sheree Rose. "Image-Texts" offers writings that accompany or are part of artworks and installations. This section includes "A Stopgap Measure," Kelley's zestful millennial essay in social satire, and "Meet John Doe," a collage of appropriated texts. "Architecture" features an discussion of Kelley's Educational Complex (1995) and an interview in which he reflects on the role of architecture in his work. Finally, "Ufology" considers the aesthetics and sexuality of space as manifested by UFO sightings and abduction scenarios.

Download or read book Yes Means Yes written by Jaclyn Friedman and published by Seal Press. This book was released on 2019-03-05 with total page 386 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This groundbreaking feminist classic dismantles the way we view rape in our culture and replaces it with a genuine understanding and respect for female sexual pleasure. In the original edition, feminist, political, and activist writers alike presented their ideas for a paradigm shift from the "No Means No" model--and the result was the groundbreaking shift to today's affirmative consent model ("Yes Means Yes," as coined by this book). With a timely new introduction, refreshed cover, and the timeless contributions of authors from Kate Harding to Jill Filipovic, Yes Means Yes brings to the table a dazzling variety of perspectives and experiences focused on the theory that educating all people to value female sexuality and pleasure leads to viewing women differently, and ending rape. Yes Means Yes has radical and far-reaching effects: from teaching men to treat women as collaborators and not conquests, encouraging men and women that women can enjoy sex instead of being shamed for it, and ultimately, that our children can inherit a world where rape is rare and swiftly punished.

A spanking video production company and publishing house since the late 1980's, Shadow Lane is headed by Eve Howard, a former spanking model, editor of both "Spank Hard" and "Stand Corrected" magazines and author of the Shadow Lane novel series. Shadow Lane has always identified with the "romance of discipline" and this has long rendered its products of particular interest to female spanking enthusiasts chary of the harsher profile of contemporary BDSM. The photography in this soft cover book is wholly devoted to spanking perfection, ranging from the classically traditional to the evocatively fetishistic, with the emphasis on fully clad good looking man spanking enchanting bare bottomed girl, in the most popular American spanking position, over the knee. This is not a book of disembodied bottoms, but of human beings with personality and heart, interacting in a fabulous action fetish that includes an entire sub-culture of its own. Many spanking people who discover Shadow Lane for the first time feel as though they've come home to friends. Download or read book Fandom as Methodology written by Catherine Grant and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 2019-12-03 with total page 299 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An illustrated exploration of fandom that combines academic essays with artist pages and experimental texts. Fandom as Methodology examines fandom as a set of practices for approaching and writing about art. The collection includes experimental texts, autobiography, fiction, and new academic perspectives on fandom in and as art. Key to the idea of “fandom as methodology” is a focus on the potential for fandom in art to create oppositional spaces, communities, and practices, particularly from queer perspectives, but also through transnational, feminist and artist-of-color fandoms. The book provides a range of examples of artists and writers working in this vein, as well as academic essays that explore the ways in which fandom can be theorized as a methodology for art practice and art history. Fandom as Methodology proposes that many artists and art writers already draw on affective strategies found in fandom. With the current focus in many areas of art history, art writing, and performance studies around affective engagement with artworks and imaginative potentials, fandom is a key methodology that has yet to be explored. Interwoven into the academic essays are lavishly designed artist pages in which artists offer an introduction to their use of fandom as methodology. Contributors Taylor J. Acosta, Catherine Grant, Dominic Johnson, Kate Random Love, Maud Lavin, Owen G. Parry, Alice Butler, SooJin Lee, Jenny Lin, Judy Batalion, Ika Willis.
