This book was released on 2020-01-09 with total page 76 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 22 original compositions for solo classical or fingerstyle guitar. All titles composed by Roger Hudson between the years 1988-1999. This collection represents the earliest efforts to put my musical ideas for solo guitar on the written page. Many of the pieces in this collection are in older popular styles (blues, rags, etc.). Some pieces in this book are definitely heavier than others. It certainly is not a collection of easy pieces. I have always composed what I enjoy composing and have never given too much thought to difficulty or whether or not a piece is deemed "concert-worthy". My compositional pendulum freely swings from the simple to traditional to more esoteric without much concern. Whether at casual or formal performances, many of my original pieces were, and still are, regularly intermingled with standard repertoire. As far as categorization, I will leave it up to those who sense the duty to determine what could be considered "classical" as opposed to "fingerstyle". In 1994, About half of the pieces featured here were included in my first album release called Guitarchitecture. In The Guitar Foundation of America's journal Soundboard, classical/microtonal guitarist John Schneider reviewed the CD and spoke of "many gorgeous moments". So, at least in that case, the academic leaning classical guitar world seemed to like my music. Experience has shown that my compositions are also liked by a cadre of fingerstyle guitarists. Because of this I am offering separate versions of this collection in tablature as well as standard notation - in an attempt to please everyone!

Book Steely Dan s Aja

  • Author : Don Breithaupt
  • Publisher : Bloomsbury Publishing USA
  • Release : 2007-05-15
  • ISBN : 1441181326
  • Pages : 144 pages

Download or read book Steely Dan s Aja written by Don Breithaupt and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2007-05-15 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Aja was the album that made Steely Dan a commercial force on the order of contemporaries like Fleetwood Mac, the Eagles and Chicago. A double-platinum, Grammy-winning bestseller, it lingered on the Billboard charts for more than a year and spawned three hit singles. Odd, then, that its creators saw it as an "ambitious, extended" work, the apotheosis of their anti-rock, anti-band, anti-glamour aesthetic. Populated by thirty-fi ve mostly jazz session players, Aja served up prewar song forms, mixed meters and extended solos to a generation whose idea of pop daring was Paul letting Linda sing lead once in a while. And, impossibly, it sold. Including an in-depth interview with Donald Fagen, this book paints a detailed picture of the making of a masterpiece.

Book excerpt: Musician, composer, producer: Brian Eno is unique in contemporary music. Best known in recent years for producing U2's sensational albums, Eno began his career as a synthesizer player for Roxy Music. He has since released many solo albums, both rock and ambient, written music for film and television soundtracks, and collaborated with David Bowie, David Byrne, Robert Fripp, and classical and experimental composers. His pioneering ambient sound has been enormously influential, and without him today's rock would have a decidedly different sound. Drawing on Eno's own words to examine his influences and ideas, this book—featuring a new afterword and an updated discography and bibliography—will long remain provocative and definitive.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the author of The Changing Mind and The Organized Mind comes a New York Times bestseller that unravels the mystery of our perennial love affair with music ***** 'What do the music of Bach, Depeche Mode and John Cage fundamentally have in common?' Music is an obsession at the heart of human nature, even more fundamental to our species than language. From Mozart to the Beatles, neuroscientist, psychologist and internationally-bestselling author Daniel Levitin reveals the role of music in human evolution, shows how our musical preferences begin to form even before we are born and explains why music can offer such an emotional experience. In This Is Your Brain On Music Levitin offers nothing less than a new way to understand music, and what it can teach us about ourselves. ***** 'Music seems to have an almost wilful, evasive quality, defying simple explanation, so that the more we find out, the more there is to know . . . Daniel Levitin's book is an eloquent and poetic exploration of this paradox' Sting 'You'll never hear music in the same way again' Classic FM magazine 'Music, Levitin argues, is not a decadent modern diversion but something of fundamental importance to the history of human development' Literary Review

The protagonist of the work is Victor Crabbe, a teacher in a multiracial school in a squalid village, who moves upward in position as he and his wife maintain a steady decadent progress backward.
