Book Road Transport Informatics and Behaviour Dynamics

Download or read book Road Transport Informatics and Behaviour Dynamics written by and published by . This book was released on 1991 with total page 16 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Developments in road Transport Informatics (RTI) are bound to bring revolutionary changes in road transport. There is a need to widen the scope of knowledge and understanding of the extremely complex interactions between travellers behaviour dynamics and the information technology implementations. EURONETT (Evaluation User Responses On New european Transport Technologies), a project of the European Commission's DRIVE programme is dealing with all the changes that the people will make in their journeys with the provision of information. Results from an extensive qualitative work concerned with the potential impacts of pre-trip information was carried out in Athens and Birhingham are presented. This work used an SP (Stated preference) approach to address the research issues identified. A set of information was presented to the travellers about the characteristics of relevant route, departure time and travel time to enable the estimation of route and departure time switching behaviour. Early findings, based on trade-off methodology, concentrated on pre-trip information for the return trip home (X-to-home) are presented and discussed in this paper.

Book Behavioural and Network Impacts of Driver Information Systems

Download or read book Behavioural and Network Impacts of Driver Information Systems written by Richard Emmerink and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-03-28 with total page 321 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originally published in 1999, this volume contains a systematic collection of both theoretical and applied studies on user information systems for road users. It is generally expected that reliable information offered to road users will improve the use of scarce capacity on transport networks but from a research perspective the question arises whether the provision of such hard and software will influence the behaviour of road users to such an extent that a more desirable traffic situation will emerge. The book contains European, American and Asian contributions and presents advances and findings in the field of theoretical, simulation and empricial models on driver information systems and behaviour, whilst also paying attention to the design of such systems.

Book Information and Pricing in Road Transportation

Download or read book Information and Pricing in Road Transportation written by Richard H.M. Emmerink and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 303 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years more emphasis has been placed in transport research on using existing roads as efficiently as possible in order to diminish the impact of traffic congestion. This book describes new theoretical, empirical and simulation models to analyse the impact of information provision to drivers and road pricing on congestion levels. It is the first publication presenting a wide variety of economic models to study information and road pricing effects jointly.

Book Telematics and Transport Behaviour

Download or read book Telematics and Transport Behaviour written by Peter Nijkamp and published by Springer. This book was released on 1996-05-15 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A major strategy to reduce transport congestion and other social costs of transport is to ensure that travellers make the best decisions, based on real time information. A wide range of technological systems have been developed to provide this information, but little is known about how travellers actually respond to it. This book offers an overview of various transport telematics options and provides an appropriate methodological framework, followed by a presentation of results from actual applications of these telematics systems from a range of European countries in various transport sectors. The empirical results are supplemented by analytical models and geographic information systems representations with a view on generalizing these findings and identifying the key parameters which determine user response.

Book Transport and Information Systems

Download or read book Transport and Information Systems written by Roger Stough and published by Edward Elgar Publishing. This book was released on 2003 with total page 680 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The subjects of transport and information systems have long been closely linked because they are both complements and substitutes for each other and thus offer potential for more efficient and productive traffic demand management. This important new collection examines the substitution and complementarity hypotheses as well as the impact of new information technology on transport and the increasing adoption of information technology in transportation systems. The volume is organised into five sections. Part I offers a history and overview of the subject, while part II examines the welfare implications of information provision for traffic demand management. Part III discusses the network analysis of intelligent transportation systems and part IV investigates the spatial impacts of information technology and telecommuting. Finally part V looks in detail at case studies. This fascinating new collection will be an essential source of reference to scholars, practitioners and students interested in the subjects of transport and information systems.

Book excerpt: Transformations in wireless connectivity and location-aware technologies hold the promise of bringing a sea-change in the way transportation information is generated and used in the future. Sensors in the transportation system, when integrated with those in other sectors (for example, energy, utility and health) have the potential to foster novel new ways of improving livability and sustainability. The end-result of these developments has been somewhat contradictory. Although automation in the transportation environment has become increasingly widespread, the level of involvement and active participation by people, in terms of co-creation and contribution of information, has also increased. As a result, the following two major trends have been observed: (1) increases in Machine-to- Machine (M2M) communications; and (2) increases in the variety and volume of User-Generated Content. In this transportation paradigm, the pervasive use of Information and Communication Technologies will serve as the foundation for mobility intelligence towards an “ubiquitous information-centered mobility environment”. However, many technical and operational questions, as well as social, management and legal challenges present themselves in the transformation to this vision. The book presents a non-technical review of research and initiatives and a discussion of such opportunities and challenges.

Book Urban Rhythms and Travel Behaviour

Download or read book Urban Rhythms and Travel Behaviour written by Stefan Schönfelder and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-02-11 with total page 249 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The recent availability of longitudinal data on individual trip making and activity behaviour has provided analysts with new insights into the structures and motives of daily life travel. Multi-week travel diary data-sets and GPS observations are exciting sources of information for the description and modelling of the variability of individual travel patterns. Through an analysis of these strong new data sets, this book questions what are the most suitable methodological tools to represent the structures of long-term travel behaviour. It also examines what the data tells us about the travellers' motives and looks at how planning should translate the findings into forecasting tools and transport strategies. In doing so, the multifaceted and ambiguous character of daily life travel is revealed, illustrating how, while sound routines in time and space seem to dominate daily life, individuals show a considerable amount of variability and flexibility in travel and activity behaviour.
