  • Author : Martin Hannibal

  • Release : 2001
  • ISBN : 1859414567
  • Pages : 152 pages

Download or read book Road Traffic written by Martin Hannibal and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2001 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This new edition of Practice Notes Road Traffic provides an accessible guide through the legal minefield created by the long-standing 1988 and 1991 Road Traffic Acts. This work highlights the debates on amending speed limits and the alarming increase of driving without insurance and driving under the influence of drugs. Whilst tackling these new issues, the authors, who are fully experienced in this area, provide an update on recent case law and statutory developments. For instance, following the ruling by the Court of Appeal in R v Simmonds, the law on careless driving has become overly complicated. However, this book aims to clarify the issues and dispel any confusion regarding the case.

Book 1961 2017 Road Traffic Legislation

Download or read book 1961 2017 Road Traffic Legislation written by Robert Pierse and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2018-05-10 with total page 1071 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Road traffic offences are those which are connected with the ownership, driving or control of mechanically-propelled vehicles in public places, including drunken, dangerous and careless driving. Over 90% of prosecutions in the District Courts are road related. 1961-2017 Road Traffic Legislation sets out annotated road traffic legislation from 1961 to 2017 and covers all relevant case law and Statutory Instruments, which makes it an ideal book for solicitors, barristers and Gardaí. This new edition includes reference to litigation on intoxicants, dangerous driving, careless driving and drug driving along with many other areas of Road Traffic Law. This title covers both practice and procedure and each section is annotated fully and cross referenced. The layout is user-friendly and where relevant makes reference to earlier volumes. This is crucial as road traffic law is a vital part of many smaller solicitors' firms' daily work and this title provides them with annotated legislation in an area rife with difficulty as the legislation is piecemeal and often contradictory. Many Statutory Instruments and Acts are created in this area: some enacted in full, others not. This book updates the practitioner on this thorny area of law and points them to relevant case law where necessary.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'I wish I had been in possession of this book when I was starting out...It contains a great deal of helpful advice for advocates including top tips on specific aspects of the job.' From the Foreword by Warby LJ. For many people, their first and only encounter with the criminal law arises from their experience on the roads. Road traffic is one of the most frequently encountered areas of law in every-day criminal practice. It is wide-ranging, sometimes complex, and occasionally required in tragic circumstances. This title draws together, in a simple and easy-to-use format, those aspects of road traffic work which most commonly arise in court practice. It explains how a case makes its way through the courts, setting out in detail the various offences and how to deal with them at every stage, including sentencing. In addition to explaining the relevant law and procedure, the authors provide advice on delivering persuasive and effective advocacy tailored to the nature of the case and the tribunal deciding the outcome. Written by a combination of authors, drawn from both the solicitor and barrister arms of the legal profession, under the General Editorship of Susan Cavender and Alistair Haggerty of Guildhall Chambers, Bristol, this book is a handy courtroom guide for solicitors and barristers written in a style that will also assist the increasing number of people who choose to represent themselves in court.

Download or read book Pulled Over written by Charles R. Epp and published by University of Chicago Press. This book was released on 2014-04-04 with total page 273 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In sheer numbers, no form of government control comes close to the police stop. Each year, twelve percent of drivers in the United States are stopped by the police, and the figure is almost double among racial minorities. Police stops are among the most recognizable and frequently criticized incidences of racial profiling, but, while numerous studies have shown that minorities are pulled over at higher rates, none have examined how police stops have come to be both encouraged and institutionalized. Pulled Over deftly traces the strange history of the investigatory police stop, from its discredited beginning as “aggressive patrolling” to its current status as accepted institutional practice. Drawing on the richest study of police stops to date, the authors show that who is stopped and how they are treated convey powerful messages about citizenship and racial disparity in the United States. For African Americans, for instance, the experience of investigatory stops erodes the perceived legitimacy of police stops and of the police generally, leading to decreased trust in the police and less willingness to solicit police assistance or to self-censor in terms of clothing or where they drive. This holds true even when police are courteous and respectful throughout the encounters and follow seemingly colorblind institutional protocols. With a growing push in recent years to use local police in immigration efforts, Hispanics stand poised to share African Americans’ long experience of investigative stops. In a country that celebrates democracy and racial equality, investigatory stops have a profound and deleterious effect on African American and other minority communities that merits serious reconsideration. Pulled Over offers practical recommendations on how reforms can protect the rights of citizens and still effectively combat crime.

Book Traffic Law Enforcement

Download or read book Traffic Law Enforcement written by Dominic Zaal and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A study was undertaken to review the recent Australian and international literature relating to traffic law enforcement. The specific areas examined included alcohol, speed, seat belts and signalised intersections. The review documents the types of traffic enforcement methods and the range of options available to policing authorities to increase the overall efficiency (in terms of cost and human resources) and effectiveness of enforcement operations. The review examines many of the issues related to traffic law enforcement including the deterrence mechanism, the effectiveness of legislation and the type of legal sanctions administered to traffic offenders. The need to use enforcement in conjunction with educational and environmental/engineering strategies is also stressed. The need for publicity to support enforcement operations, police training and education programs is also documented. The review concludes with a series of recommendations regarding the most promising options available to authorities to improve the effectiveness of traffic law enforcement operations.
