This book was released on 2018 with total page 37 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ABSTRACT OF THE THESIS Background: There were an estimated 300,000 new HIV infections in the Asia and Pacific region in 2015, with young people aged 15 to 24 years accounting for 37% of all new HIV infections. The number of adolescents living with HIV has risen by 28% between 2005 and 2015 in this region. The HIV/AIDS-related knowledge, attitudes, behavior and HIV testing status study was done among young people aged 15 to 24 years in Myanmar, 2016. Objectives: To assess the knowledge, attitude, behavior, and HIV testing status among young people of Myanmar. Methods: The study was a cross-sectional study; it was a nationally representative survey of women and men age 15-24 year throughout Myanmar, data based on 2015-16 Myanmar Demographic and Health Survey (MDHS). A total of 3,728 women and 1,458 men were interviewed to examine knowledge, awareness, and behavior regarding HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs). The survey used computer-assisted field editing (CAFE) procedures. SAS software 9.4 used for data management and analyses. Results: The young people in the study group have the high awareness about HIV, but limited knowledge about HIV/ AIDS prevention which varied across residence and education level. The stigma and discrimination of HIV/AIDS still prevalent among young people. The prevalence of HIV testing was low among young men. Conclusion: HIV related knowledge, attitude and behavior among young people is the key area to focus on young people living in the rural area with low education and income in Myanmar. The policymakers and HIV program managers should focus on the most vulnerable groups on HIV prevention by awareness raising campaign and by creating an enabling environment for HIV counseling and testing. Book Hiv Aids Risk Behaviors Among Myanmar Migrants in Bangkok Thailand

Download or read book Hiv Aids Risk Behaviors Among Myanmar Migrants in Bangkok Thailand written by Nan Shwe Nwe Htun and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2010-06 with total page 80 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a cross-sectional study (undertaken at the College of Public Health Sciences, Chulalungkorn University) of HIV/AIDS Risk Behaviors among Myanmar Migrants in Bangkok s Khao San Road tourism area. Quantitative analysis using chi-square test, odds ratio and 95% confidence interval were used to describe associations between variables from the sample gathered using the snow ball technique. A major high risk profile for HIV/AIDS among Myanmar migrants emerged within the study, the undereducated 25-29 year old blue collar worker with moderate knowledge of HIV/AIDS. Associations between socio-demographic factors, HIV/AIDS knowledge and the risk behaviors: visiting sex workers, alcohol consumption and drug use were analyzed and presented in this particular study. Based on the risk behaviors studied, the author recommends behavior change intervention in the form of increased access to health education among migrants and that further reaffirmation of this study s findings be conducted through a broader longitudinal study on sexual attitudes and behavior of migrants.

Download or read book HIV AIDS in Bangladesh written by Alak Paul and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-10-13 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book aims to show the conditions and behaviors of vulnerable and marginalized people in Bangladesh which put them at risk of HIV/AIDS infection, and what their adopted coping strategies are and how these play out. In addition, the book seeks to gain an understanding of the perceptions of civil society and policy planners with respect to vulnerability to HIV, and the necessary mitigation measures. While there is much published literature on the epidemiology and etiology for the most at-risk groups in the region, there has not yet been any in-depth research concerning the socio-cultural and geographic impacts of HIV issues in Bangladesh. Almost all of the literature shows HIV as an epidemiological problem rather than investigating it from a social or cultural point of view, and still less using qualitative methods. The present work is an endeavor to fill these gaps by providing valuable qualitative field data to demonstrate the causes of HIV risk and vulnerability, and to examine the nature of the social and locational context of HIV/AIDS in Bangladesh and to assist with health care policy planning. The book will be of use to students and researchers, studying public health, health geography, medical sociology, medical anthropology, social psychology and social epidemiology, and to professionals in the fields of development, community medicine, health management and social policy.
